Easy to find on the high st - there is a big black bear sticking out at the front!. This is a quaint old building with a bar that serves pub food, function rooms and basic accommodation in reasonable sized rooms. It's quite an expensive part of the world to stay but we got a twin room for £75 so...

A truly awful experience with no real customer service available for Sunday lunch. This lunch had been booked for a while. A glass oif wine should have come with the meal but had to be repeatedly requested. The general ambience was very grubby \and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.,

Having been to this hotel for a meal previously we went back a second time whatva big mistake we made. We placed our order with a very polite and friendly waitress (she severed us on our last visit too) about 25 minutes after she took our order she came through and said she was going off shift and our meals...

An absolutely wonderful stay. The Black Bear is everything an old coaching inn should be without the usual hideous snobbery and over - pricing. Anyone who doesn't love it doesn't deserve to stay there at twice the price.

The Hotel looks characterful and charming. The staff who greeted us including the chef were very pleasant. We booked in to a top floor room overlooking the street. As the building is listed the windows were single glazed, although the lock fell off in my hand when I tried to open the window. This is a basic accommodation with no...

There were 6 of us looking for a meal. When we asked we were initially told that the kitchen was closed.. However, the owner said that if we could wait a short time, he would recall the chef for us. When we ordered our meals, it was for 6 different meals. When the meals came, they were very good and...

Desperately hungry after a long day we didn’t waste time deciding what to order. The menu was full of your normal pub classics; Burgers, Sunday Roasts, Pastas, Fish and Chips etc. but I chose to order from the daily specials board Steak, kidney and mushroom pie with veg and new potatoes, costing £7.95. And boy am I glad I did!...

Upon seeing the sign saying contractor stays short and long term welcome we knew we had booked the wrong place. The double room we had booked was a twin. After checking in I returned with our cases and dog and had to wait for the fighting and swearing to stop before we could enter the hotel. The room has graffiti...

We arrived early evening and were shown to our room by a lovely young lady. She told us we had the room with the huge bed. It was in fact 2 single beds pushed together with, what looked like, a massive duvet over it. Sadly it was only the cover that was huge and not the actual duvet inside! Hence...

On first impressions I thought, at least we are only staying one night. We were welcomed by a very nice young lady who showed us up to our room and directed me to the long stay car park near the Police station. The room looked a bit dated but was clean and tidy with towels etc. Unfortunately the hot water...

The Black Bear Hotel is a family friendly grade 2 listed period coaching inn, with 14 en-suite rooms, bar restaurant, pool table, beer garden and a function room that can be used for any occasion, business or leisure. We have a varied home cooked menu including daily specials and child options, featuring locally sourced produce. We serve local and regional real ales and selection of wines well behaved dogs are welcome. We have live music most weekends. We as a family took over the Bear on the 8th October 2012 and have been busy refurbishing the rooms and generally giving the old place a facelift, but not losing its character in the process. So the new management team, Lyn, Allan, Beccie, Podge and Maz would like you to welcome you if you choose to come and stay with us. There are several beautiful beaches and interesting sights close by. Wareham is an old market town enclosed by the famous walls and hold many historical features. The boat trips from the quayside to Poole are very popular. We are also central to Dorchester, Poole, Weymouth, Swanage and Corfe Castle, to name but a few. ... more   less
