I spent only one night regretfully, breaking my walk from Lynmouth to Combe Martin. The owners Pat and Mark were friendly and very helpful and relaxed. Mark picked me up from the Hunters Inn near the Southwest coast path and dropped me back the next morning making it a perfect hiatus during my walk. The room was large, very clean,...

Spent two nights at the hotel in late April. Excellent choice, so peaceful and quiet. Situated high in a natural valley which runs to sea, only few 100m from South West coastal path - a great base for both walking and sightseeing. Hotel has undergone extensive renovation in recent years and rooms are large, bright and airy with good views at...

We enjoyed a two night stay in this lovely secluded hotel, in the Heddon's Valley. The owners are very pleasant and hospitable - afternoon tea and biscuits on arrival were very welcome, and sitting in the sun on the terrace, with no sounds except birdsong, made it nigh on idyllic. The overall feel of the hotel is very relaxed. Our...

We spent a weekend in the hotel and we have had a very good time. The place is surrounded by the park, very quiet and offers a great base to start exploring the SW coastal pathway. The hotel offers very comfortable rooms with en-suite and has been recently refurbished. The restaurant is good and has fair prices. The owners are...

Fantastic stay in a stunning location. Made so welcome by the owners and enjoyed a superb evening meal and lovely breakfasts! Dog friendly too with lots of walks on the doorstep. Bedrooms have been refurbished to a high standard and all so different.

Tucked away and suitably isolated, this independent and friendly hotel, newly refurbished stands prominent and whilst overlooking a valley, it is but a short distance from the sea. Situated between Coombe Martin and Lynton and Lynmouth, a short drive away, there are numerous walks to choose from and lots of hills to climb. One feels at home here, lounging in...

You do not stumble on Heddon’s Gate Hotel by accident. It requires an effort of will to go there. While certainly remote, if you avoid the Scylla and Charybdis of map and satnav and instead follow the hotel’s own directions on their website, it is easy enough to get there. It is in a clearing on the side of a...
