You do not stumble on Heddon’s Gate Hotel by accident. It requires an effort of will to go there. While certainly remote, if you avoid the Scylla and Charybdis of map and satnav and instead follow the hotel’s own directions on their website, it is easy enough to get there. It is in a clearing on the side of a...

Spot on if you want peace and quiet, good food, attentive and helpful hosts and a base for walking the coastal paths. When we visited the hotel was very quiet which meant the dining room and bar were lacking in atmosphere, although there is a pub at the bottom of the hill we could have gone to. But we were...

Wow - what a great weekend we have had at the Heddons Gate hotel to celebrate our anniversary with our married son's and their children - 11 of us in all with children ranging from 4 to 1 year old. This was our original honeymoon hotel back in 1976. We were greeted by Mark and Pat, the owners on arrival...

Our hosts, Mike and. Pat, made us so welcome on our arrival to this delightful beautifully restored hotel. Our family room was large and comfortable with great bathroom. Our room was at the back but the front rooms have a view. The journey to the hotel took us a while because it was hard to find, but once there the...

A great hotel and venue for local walks. We would definitely return. Rooms good size and price was reasonable. Breakfast good and served with a smile. Relaxed evening in the bar or go to the pub nearby.

A one night stay as part of a short motorbike tour of Devon and Cornwall. We were made to feel very welcome at Heddon's Gate. This is a family run hotel, recently refurbished in a beautiful, quiet valley in Exmoor. Room was very comfortable, dinner (braised beef) and breakfast were very good. Spectacular cliff top walks and to a deserted...

It was so nice to find a hotel that had thought things through. We took our dog with us and we were most welcome. Customers with dogs have a dedicated dining room. We can have all the joys of being in a dining room with our doggy family with us. They have a separate dining room for guest without dogs....

Beautiful location - Mark provides directions upon booking but worth studying a map beforehand too. Nestled in a forest on the steep sides of the Heddon Valley you could not ask for a better peaceful location. Only a short drive from Ilfracombe, I used the hotel to stay the night after a diving trip to Lundy. Very convenient for Ilfracombe...

We were warmly welcomed and even though we arrived earlier than expected were personally offered tea and biscuits after being shown our room. Much friendlier than us making our own in the room. Our room was spacious with good quality furniture and a good sized, very comfortable bed. The hotel is in a stunning location with amazing views over the...
