Wow, where do I begin?! This place is a lovely hidden little gem 💎 We stayed in the family room, which is very well equipped with a kitchen & dining area. Room is very spacious with a lovely king-size bed. Bathroom is also very spacious with everything you need. The amenities outside are a nice touch and the hot tub is an absolute must!!! Biggest hot tub I have ever seen - it was incredible to sit and relax in. In terms of price, I would say it is very good value for money. The owners Nikki and Terry are so nice and are very welcoming. There is lots to do in the local town, Dartmoor moors is a breathtaking sight and yhe National Trust Visit Centre was a great place for the kids to look around. Would definitely book this place again!

It was an absolute pleasure to host a family that really wanted to embrace the experience and use the outdoor kitchen and log burning stove. We are so pleased you enjoyed the hot spa pool. I stayed here many years ago when under different owners and I was expecting it to be of a much more basic standard.
I booked a family room for my work mate , myself and my dog.
When we arrived we found that we had been upgraded to a larger family suite but that it only had the one king size bed for my friend and I.
It was a genuine mistake made with the best of intentions but my friend and I nipped to the pub for a meal whilst things were being sorted. We had a call to say that we still had the upgraded dog friendly family suite and an additional non dog double room at no additional cost.
The rooms were decorated to a very high standard, much better than I had been expecting, There was no evidence that there had been dogs staying in the room, or any human to be honest.
They provided a nice comfy dog bed, dog bowls and even poo bags.
The room had a corner sofa tv and clothes hanging space at one end, a dining table and kitchenette with microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee machine, fridge and sink with tea bags, coffees, sweeteners and coffee at the other.
In the middle was the bed, I didn’t measure it but it was a decent king size with the ability to be split into twins. It had high quality white bed linen, and for those that watch 4 In A Bed you would be hard pushed to find any hairs, dust or anything else to concern you.
There was a door through to the en-suite bathroom which had a corner bath with shower over, heated towel rail, toilet and basin.
They even offer the use of a hot tub in the rear garden and can supply gowns and slippers to use. We did not check it out but it would be nice relaxation after a day hiking on the moor.
We ate breakfast out at the cafe next door, which is also dog friendly and of a high standard.
All in all I thoroughly recommend it.

For basic self catering accommodation, the facilities are great. The owners are very friendly and incredibly helpful.
The beds are very comfortable and rooms are clean.
In the room we had, we had a toaster, microwave, fridge, kettle and lavazza coffee machine(with pods). The fridge even had a 4 pint bottle of semi skimmed milk in it.
Dogs are also welcome which is great. They get a large comfy bed, bag of treats and food/water bowls.

We did have an issue with hot water (likely the fault of a rather lengthy shower), Nikki and Terry got it sorted out very quickly and offered us use of another rooms facilities until our water had heated up again. Recommend they switch the shower for an electric unit.

Thank you so much for your lovely review, we are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that the facilities were so useful to you. Really pleased to hear the Lavazza coffee machines going down so well (it took a lot of deciding but the compostible pods made them a winner for us!). We are sorry about the water problem and will always take steps to resolve any issues. We hope to see you again soon.

We stayed here recently with our two girls aged 12 and 6. We stayed in room 7 which offered a Super king bed and a raised area with two single beds that could be closed off via a curtain so that we could watch the provided TV and the Kids could sleep. We found this really useful and the beds were so comfortable we all had two full nights sleep.

The room had free WIFI, a fridge, kettle, coffee maker, toaster table and chairs and a good sized bathroom with shower. Body wash, shampoo and conditioner also provided.

For breakfast there were cereals and jam provided in the lobby with an honesty box which the kids really enjoyed. There were also books and games that could be used and returned. The kids really enjoyed choosing a different game and book each day.

The Ramblers also has a covered outside area where we were able to use the pizza oven, chimenea and BBQs. (Meat and Vegetarian labelled)
The owners have made the outside space inviting with tables, chairs, candles and lighting.

There is also an Ice cream shack attached to the Ramblers which the kids and ourselves really enjoyed. Many flavours to choose from including Vegan and Gluten free options as well as doggy ice cream.

The Ramblers is a great base location for exploring Dartmoor. Nikki and Terry gave us some great recommendations and we will be returning to try more of them. (Especially the Ice cream)

We highly recommend the Ramblers Rest

The Railway Ramblers' Rest is a true gem in the heart of Dartmoor.

The room was spacious, warm and very well equipped. A good kitchenette, a large sitting area, the. most comfortable king sized bed and an excellent bathroom.

The owners, Nikki & Terry were very helpful and generous, supplying fresh milk, tea and Lavazza coffee in the room as well as an honour box for any additional supplies needed.

The village has all the facilities you need, with a breakfast cafe next door, an excellent outdoor store across the road and a perfect Pub for dinner within 100 yards.

It's a perfect location for walks around Dartmoor with many loops starting at your front door including the inspiration for "The Hound of the Baskervilles" by Conan Doyle.

I will definitely stay again.

Visiting from overseas we were looking for a comfortable place to stay in the centre of Dartmoor. Ramblers Rest delivered this and more. We stayed in room 6 which was huge. The bed was really comfortable and there were extra nice touches like the bathrobes, the well equipped kitchenette and the supplies cupboard if you needed morning cereal. The ensuite was modern and had a great shower and bath and for that extra luxury there was the recently installed outside spa. Well located in the centre of the town there is easy access to pubs, cafes and takeaways and paths straight onto the moors. Overall a great place to stay.

Our only gripe with the Ramblers Rest is that we only booked one night! We had an absolutely perfect stay and the owners Nikki & Terry were so accommodating, with us adding an extra person leading up to our booking, and welcoming upon check-in. An ideal spot with easy access to Dartmoor, Plymouth and lovely village cafés for a full English breakfast! The room was perfect, extremely clean and homely, comfy beds, quiet and airy, with a kitchenette, dining table and bathroom with everything we needed. Instructions were extremely clear and easy parking available. Although we didn't have time this trip, we are keen to return to try out their new spa and hot tub area which Terry was kind enough to show us! And the ice cream kiosk also run by them was wonderful too. Thank you Terry for the great advice for local walks as well. We'll definitely be coming back!

This is an old pub reconfigured to be several self-contained rooms for visiting walkers/ramblers etc.

We had a good sized room and ensuite bathroom plus one whole wall has become a kitchenette with microwave, kettle, fridge, and a proper sink. It was ideal for our needs and would suit anyone based in Princetown to explore the moors but who doesn't necessarily want to eat out for each meal between walks, or indeed if you wanted to make your own lunches to take with you.

Nikki and Terry were excellent hosts. Nikki is a brilliant person and can't say enough about how much both looked after us. Perhaps, I should say Princetown has a little gem called Nikki. Terry is an absolute sweetheart, very hardworking and has a great sense of humour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A holiday we took after so long and wasn't sure. In Fact we were apprehensive due to the weather and continuous rain, but Nikki brought so much sunshine out of all of us. She was so prompt every morning with all the stuff we could do around the area that was just breathtaking (especially the moors). We got to see the Merrivale stone rows. The place is fantastic with clever use of outdoor space. There is a neat outside area where one can enjoy with a large group, or if two or three families will go together they can enjoy the social area. The hot tub was just what we needed and is definitely an added plus to the property. Nikki gave us a tour of the place and every room is so brilliantly done by Terry keeping every little thing in mind. We loved the bath towels shelf as is one of the most multipurpose thing I have ever seen.

Princetown/Tavistock are great places to visit. We all so enjoyed the Prince of Wales pub, fantastic food and neat ale's. Definitely try the Jail Ale, one of the classics we had. Hospitality by Sol was excellent at the pub. We missed not going to the cafe near by food look fantastic but we have few things to do again when we visit Nikki and Terry. Just loved the whole experience and the personable touch by two such lovely people. We didn't know what to expect as it was our first trip to Dartmoor but all I can say it is worth visiting. You will never regret it is magical, brilliant, peaceful and just wonderful.

We wish both Nikki and Terry a huge success for 2024 and cant wait to come back this year again <3 :)

Thank you for everything Nikki and Terry xx

Ahhhhh, you are too kind!! You forgot to say what a lovely group you came with and how you chose Ramblers' Rest for a very special occasion and we were truly honoured. We are delighted that despite the weather, you made it up to Dartmoor and we're so pleased that regardless of the fog you really embraced the experience . We can't wait for you to see Dartmoor on a clear day and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Of course the local pubs and cafes are all great and we are lucky enough to be close to moor, sea and plenty of historic sites. We really do look forward to your return. Would highly recommend Ramblers Rest to anyone looking for a restful night in mid to high end accommodation in Princetown. I stayed here with two others in a three -person bedroom, and we had a fantastic stay. Nikki and Terry have thoughtfully designed accommodation that catered to all of our needs. The hot tub is a great addition to a lovely spa area which will be even better when the changing rooms are in place. Terry made us feel very welcome and was a fantastic host.
