Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An old railway station, converted to a hostel, located on the water just before the bridge to Achill. We were greeted by the friendly proprietor who could not have been more welcoming. She made us a cup of tea and gave us information about the area.

Our sizable, private double room had two comfortable beds, chest of drawers, two chairs, small wardrobe and extra duvets. The bathroom was down the hall. Bring a towel (none provided).

The cozy lounge with fire going made for a comfortable place to unwind. Kitchen was`equipped with two fridges and two cookers. Washer and dryer in the next room. There are small lockers to secure your things.

Binders filled with articles about Achill give you a sense of the place. Each of the two dorms have their own bathrooms. The other double is ensuite. Even with the dorms being only half full, we had to wait to use the bathroom assigned to our room since it was being used by those staying in the dorms. Dorm and double rooms can be locked. It can get a bit noisy in your room when people are walking down the hall.

Although a bit worn, there is a charm about the place, but it could use some cleaning.

A restaurant is across the road. Grocery store and shops are across the bridge.

Great location just at the end of the Greenway with a short walk across the bridge to the village. Warm and friendly owner Would recommend the hotel across the road from the hostel for pub grub/breakfast. Very very basic hostel but can't complain given the extra reasonable prices. There are two twin rooms which are a little dearer than the dorms. Hostel could do with refurbishment but for the price its great value.IF you want better than this you are going to have to book into a b&b or the hotel.

The hostel is in a great location at the end of the greenway cycle path and the gateway to achill island! The lady in charge of the hostel was friendly too! The only real negative about the place is it lacks a bit if cleanliness overall. The showers, basins and toilets didn't get cleaned during our stay and the recycle bin was overflowing.

This was the most welcoming hostel on my trip - and the best hostel that I stayed at. I'm giving it an "excellent" rating, despite that we didn't have hot water for washing up!! Everything from booking our beds to leaving was brilliant.

The lady owner came and greeted us and showed us around, and brought us a jug of milk and made us a brew. She then showed us her ring binder folders which were full of local information and told us a bit about the area. She popped in the following morning (we decided to stay another night) and then she came before we left. She provided some additional bedding in case we were cold, and when we came for the second night, the fire was lit waiting for us. I felt incredibly at home!

I have been visiting this hostel every year for more than a decade and the owner Marilyn Lavelle always makes me feel welcome! Achill is a howling Gale of fresh air, not just a breathe and you can see for miles of breathtaking landscape! I also like The House of Prayer, which is much maligned, but, I like it!

Nice old building situated at the old railway station, I believe it is where the station master used to live. The owner is such a lovely lady, she let us check ourselves in and then brought us a pint of milk for our breakfast and made sure all was ok. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles but its a comfortable quiet stay right next to beautiful Achill Island

My first time to stay in a hostel and hopefully the experience can only get better. The owner is very nice and friendly and it was warm. That is the only good thing I can say. The place is very basic needs a "lick of paint" and new furniture needed badly. We came back Saturday evening to an incredibly bad smell of gas. We spoke to people there who had stayed before and they said that it was not the 1st time this has happened. I had to open all windows to get rid of the odour.

Last year I spent 2 nights here, this year 3. It's a fantastic location to get to the start if the Achill Ultra (though I only ran the half marathon!)

The owner is nice, has time to explain the island to you, and cares for the hostel constantly. If you have a question she pops by in minutes!

I've stayed in different rooms. There are bunk rooms and doubles. The twin bed I slept in this time was amazingly comfortable! The duvets are thick and clean and kept me wArm on a chilly night.

She did mention she'd light the fire if I wanted, but we were heading out to McLoughlin's Pub for some craic!

The thing I like best is The locaction (near bike trail and the bridge). Also the kitchens. Clean. Well stocked with nice cutlery, plates, pots & pans. Big tables if there are groups. The views are fantastic.

I have loaded up lots if photos to show the place off!
