Welcome to the Achill Sound Hotel, or in the Irish language, Ostan Gob A'Choire. Peter and Loretta Connaughton, and all of the Connaughton family, assure you a famous warm welcome to the friendly and relaxed Achill Sound Hotel. The hotel is located just over the bridge from the mainland, and in the heart of Achill Sound, the main Achill village. Close to the village shops and amenities, the Achill Sound Hotel is one of the most popular hotels on Achill Island. For nearly a century we've been offering affordable accommodation, great home-cooked food from our bar/restaurant and the ideal location for exploring Achill and the surrounding areas. We are a family hotel and add a personal touch to brighten your stay from all the family and staff. Enjoy a pint in the bar, share a song or a story and feel part of the family and the village. We have a range of double, single, twin and family rooms to choose from. All rooms have TVs, and are en-suite. From here in Achill Sound you can also explore the rest of the beautiful island with its stunning Atlantic vistas, towering mountains, cliffs, unique plants and animals, intriguing and sad history, cosy pubs, safe and scenic bicycle greenway all the way from Westport, and perfect blue-flag beaches. At once windswept, barren, wild, lush, rich and beautiful. An adventure seekers dream, or a quiet Irish paradise to escape the busy world. Come visit Achill. The hotel has plenty of safe and free parking as well as storage for bicycles and packed lunches for exploring the island.

Food good Had a separate menu for people with allergies - excellent Heard us mention it was my mums birthday - 2 big slices chocolate fudge cake with candles provided free of charge Tea and coffee - no charge as well Very enjoyable visit. We stayed here for one night in May 2016. If your looking for a modern hotel then this most definitely isn't for you. The rooms are like stepping back in time to the seventies, cramped, a bit dingy and a tiny bathroom. A positive is that they are clean and have everything you need. The hotel is family run and it shows in their friendliness. We ate in the bar and couldn't fault the food. Overall this is a nice hotel, lovely people running it and has an old Irish feel

Popped in for a drink after a long cycle ride. The bar is part of the hotel. Staff very welcoming and the bar is authentic Irish decor and hospitality. Worth dropping into. Serves a good range of food too at very reasonable prices. Also, right beside Achill Tourist Information Office.

we stayed here overnight while cycling around Achill Island, it was like stepping back in time the rooms are small and dated. Peter seems to pop out from anywhere asking what your at, any craic, he means well and its kinda comical. we didn't eat in the hotel but enjoyed a few pints in the bar in the evening, the bar was quite and lacked some of the atmosphere we found in a couple of the other bars on the island. Would recommend a revamp sometime soon!

We stayed in Achill Sound in September and entered into the hotel bar one evening for some food and drink and we enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff so much, that we went back again. The food is delicious and the pints are good. The owner/manager of the hotel, Peter is a great story teller and he chats to everyone in the bar, creating a camaraderie and a really enjoyable atmosphere. Make sure you drop in here in the evening time to wind down after a day of touring the Wild Atlantic Way in Achill.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights during the summer and overall we would say that this hotel reflects the attitude of Achill Tourism as a whole. Achill is a beautiful place to visit but those in the tourism industry have never heard of going the extra mile. Unanimously they whine that their season is short and therefore investment is not worthwhile,. If only they had vision they would find that their season would stretch all year round. This hotel has seen no investment in what seems like 20 years. It is spotlessly clean but has a very tired appearance. The restaurant was busy each night but the fare was totally uninspiring. A lot of bought in pre-prepared meals, mainly deep fried. Top prices also. Breakfast was adequate and served in a mostly empty ballroom. Our room

Whilst on holiday in the local area we visited the hotel restaurant on two occasions. The menu had plenty of choice and we enjoyed our meals. We found the staff friendly and welcoming. The hotel is in a great location with a beautiful outlook.

The staff make this hotel ! ... Very outdated ... needs a serious make over ! Rooms are small, dark, dreary & cold ! .. However views from the room are beautiful... The full Irish breakfast menu is very good, tasty, well presented and plentiful, However If you prefer the Continental breakfast then your options are limited .. certain cereals, yogurt, tinned grapefruit & orange juice, The breakfast room staff were so helpful and pleasant, they really couldn't do enough for us .. Breakfast served from 8.30am to 10.30am, We didn't get to sample the evening menu, The Hotel itself is very central, a great location with customer car park directly across the road, All in all it was below our expectations, but our brilliant weekend on the island itself made up for our accommodation

Stayed here for three nights .Rooms were clean but bit dated.Bit less than we expected. It is not a child friendly hotel as there is nothing for children in the evenings to do. The staff and owner were very friendly and helpfull. Food.... breakfast was fine but evening meal was disappointing. Ordered prawn salad expecting more than tiny shrimps which I would say were from supermarkets frozen section. We had three different mains and the only one I would recommend is the cod. Lamb was not good. This hotel is grand for an overnight and without children+It could do with updating and change of menu or chef!

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. Having read some negative reviews I feel they do not give a fair reflection of the hotel. The rooms are basic and the hotel is a little dated but you do not go to Achill and stay on your room. Most people who visit Achill are either cyclists or walkers who require a clean comfortable hotel with hot water for showers and a hearty meal at night. This hotel delivers this in spades all at a moderate price. Peter and Loretta could not have been more hospitable even offering to pick us up from a day out if we could not get a taxi. They ran a friendly bar and despite signs saying food served to 8.30 they continued serving walkers till after 9.30pm. Excellent Trad Band in bar and good to see people from all different nations bringing in their
