Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We came to this hotel for 4 nights in April, we had a family room that was amazing and very spacious with sea views, it was very clean and the lovely ladies that serviced our room couldn’t be more helpful.
The management were very helpful and worked very hard to keep all there guests happy.
Breakfast and dinner was amazing with generous portions and the waiting on staff were fabulous and would accommodate with food requests you had.
We would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again.
Thank you Cathal and the team a fabulous holiday.

We stayed for 12 nights in a room that had fabulous views of the sea and Achill Island. The room was large and very comfortable. The hotel has a very good Dining room and a very lively bar area with live music on certain nights. This is the second time my wife and I have used this hotel and we were not disappointed. We are looking forward to our next visit.

The staff commitment to customer service is clear from everyone that we came across and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. It was evident that worked together as a very effective team and are a credit to the hotel owners.

Thank you so very much, to your wonderful Rceptionist who was on duty on Wednesday 6th October at lunchtime. Twelve very bedraggled, and wet hill walkers arrived at your your door looking for some comfort and shelter from the horrendous weather conditions. Your Receptionist was superb. She offered us places to hang our wet coats and waterproof bottoms, even gave us towels to dry ourselves . We were so grateful . The wonderful chowder and brown bread we dined on in the bar really cheered us up as well. We felt so good after this experience, that we donned our wet geat and walked back to Mulranny.

Check inn fine. Room okay. Breakfast was awful freezing cold was sent back, partner had already put sauce on plate, when breakfast came back out waitress said who had the brown sauce? it was re heated in a microwave and basically rubber. Toast basket had used sugar sachets at the bottom. Huge dissapointment over all and very over priced. No body at recieption at 11am when checking out just to let them know. Save your money and book some were else seriosuly.

Was attending a party so theta why we were there. Hotel is quite dated room we stayed in had a damp unused smell in t. No bulbs in tne bedside lamps so only full room light available. Shower is unusable due to mixer not working & water temp is so hot it would burn you. Also water pressure is so low it’s about same pressure as a watering can.. there is a kettle in the room but no tea bags, coffee, milk etc double bed is a double & a single pushed together & the heights don’t quite match so make sure for a rather uncomfortable sleep
Staff are very helpful though but couldn’t recommend this hotel

On arrival we were neither asked for proof of vaccination or a contact number for tracing. The table we were seated at had not been cleaned, therefore was certainly not sanitised. We were tended to by a number of waitresses throughout the evening, one of whom wore her mask under her nose.
The food was, at best, mediocre - the filo prawn starter are the same as the ones that could be found in the freezer of a cheap supermarket. The vegetables were also frozen - not fresh. The salmon was underwhelming and the mashed potato was cold.
We won't be recommending or revisiting.

Booked a room for 2 nights - we have a medium sized dog. From the moment we arrived it was clear that a dog was unwelcome here. We were shown a room that had a tiled floor which we were informed was a pet friendly room next to the laundry. It was also a disabled room. Apart from the pine furnishing, the room has two beds - both did not have alignments with their headboards. The room has two mugs and spoons but no tea/coffee or kettle. The only good thing about this hotel was the lovely lady who operated the laundry. If only she ran the place - it would have been a pleasure to stay there

This gateway to Achill is an absolute credit to management and the young pleasant staff. The rooms are comfortable, spotless and some with a great view of the bay. The food in house is exceptionally good , so much so we opted not to venture any further for our evening meal. Everything, including the breakfast is freshly cooked to order and served by the pleasantly warm staff. I would highly recommend as a base for exploring the beautiful island. To be honest it has all the ingredients to match any 4 star. I would recommend frontal lighting to highlight the beauty of the building be proud of its welcome entering the island.

This hotel is probably the all rounder to stay in, comfortable, good food and drink, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, some have nice island and sea views.
Located on the bridge to Achill Island it gives easy access to Achill Island but also is a good location for touring.
The bar food menu provides for everyone, reasonably priced and good food.
Outside there is plenty of parking and views on the grounds of the island and the bay.
My only issue is the lighting in the bar was a bit dull at night-time and I found it a bit difficult to read the menu.
This is my 3rd time to stay at this hotel and I will stay again.
We had a welcoming chat each evening with Mary in the bar/ restaurant, Mary you are fantastic, thank you for making our stay friendly, you are a credit to the hotel, we wish you long health and happiness.
Looking forward to visiting again.

Booked table one week in advance and confirmed the afternoon of our visit. Restaurant had a fairly nice menu but service was very poor. Waited 15 minutes after being shown to our table before anyone came to take our order. Had to ask for cutlery and condiments. Handful of knives and forks "plunked down" in the centre of the table. Tomato ketchup and vinegar was in sachets! Seafood chowder was "gloopy" and unappetising. Presentation of food was generally very poor, steak sandwich looked like someone's idea of a joke.... lump of steak in a baguette with thin gravy spread around the plate. Had to ask twice for water. Waiter arrived with jug of water and glasses and had to go for more glasses because he found two dirty glasses. The kindest thing to say is they have lots of room to improve.
