Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This was a short notice booking (for one night) and the host, after an initial surprise, really rose to to challenge and quickly allocated us a nice room with a pleasant en-suite bathroom. Although the place was empty, he also turned up to turn our help-yourself breakfast into one with scrambled eggs, hot croissants and fresh expresso coffee!

The location is good, just round the corner from the main high street which has a few bars and places to eat.

The only small negative was that the toilet in our room constantly made a sound like heavy rain and was a bit disturbing in the night. Otherwise, thanks for a very good stay.

The Anvil is a beautiful property that takes service standards to a whole new level. I received the warmest of Achill hospitality throughout my stay in the utterly spotless surrounds of the Anvil. The location is excellent, the beds very comfortable and the shower was just what I needed after long days of exploring the area. This is a five star B&B at prices that are very modest. So impressed with the stay that I came away with a return date in mind.

We decided to go back to Achill Island over Easter and there were never any doubt where we wanted to stay! Fortunately Katherine and Ciaron had a room for us this time too. I know we have reviewed it before but it is worth mentioning again because this must be one of the best B&B’s in Ireland. And if you are thinking of walking or biking around the island or along the Great Western Greenway it is perfect. Great rooms everything is clean, fresh and Katherine’s breakfasts are amazing :o)

We stayed here during the Bank Holiday weekend while on a short trip up the west coast of Ireland. The B&B itself is beautiful and is situated in a great location, anyone visiting the House of Prayer couldn't get any closer, but upon arrival we didn't get the warmest of welcomes. Katherine looked a little surprise to find that we were two young couples (26 to 29) maybe we didn't fit the profile of the usual guest's. Having stayed in B&B's before we expected a warm welcome from the owner but very little was said and we were shown to our rooms. The rooms were spotless with tea and coffee making facilities as well as biscuits, the bathroom had underfloor heating and the beds were very comfortable. After a great nights sleep it was a shame to find that our shower was ice cold. The breakfast was incredible, a full Irish that dwarfed the largest of plates and freshly brewed coffee what more could you want, it all went down a treat. When it came to leaving we couldn't find the owner, eventually we did and paid but never got a thank you or a goodbye. Like the shower I think the owner could do with warming up a bit and being more welcoming, other than that it is a beautiful house with an exceptional breakfast.

I travel solo a lot in Ireland and chose my B&B a couple of hours before I get there. This was just fab. V reasonable at €32. A mini hotel. Info in hall including wifi code. Bedroom was just brill. More info about the area. Desk, extra pillow, blanket, shower soap. Tea & coffee including decaf. Just brill.
The breakfast was the only reason I didn't give it full marks. A few small improvements like a hot breakfast menu and a little bit more imagination with the fruit & cereal options would have achieved perfection for this place.

Having visited Achill for the first time to attend a funeral was delighted to be recommended Anvil House. Friendly welcome, shown to spotless rooms with a single and double in each. Wonderful en suite and under floor heating. Breakfast has to be a 10 out of 10 too. You seriously would not get better at a 5 star hotel. I asked Catherine how long they had been open as everything looks so new and to be told over 10 years was to say the least a shock, well Catherine is obviously doing something right. 10 OUT OF 10.

The house is quiet, well laid out and the room was very clean and confortable...and the breakfast will fill you for the day. One tip: you are at a walking distance to a pub called McLoughlin's and it is worth a visit and try the local Achill beer (4.3 degrees so be prepared!). All in all, great.
