Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

No real problem with the hotel, the staff are friendly and accommodating. The food is decent but the rooms are very standard and badly in need of a face lift. The plugs on the lamps on our bedside lockers didn't even match the sockets on the wall rendering them useless. No hot water on the 2nd morning for a shower, it took 10 minutes to pull through hot water on the first morning. Room was small and dated. Cracks and stains on the wall. Toilet door needed a good bang to close. Tv was smaller than my phone screen. No hair dryer but there was a plastic mould that used to have a hair dryer. Bed was old and had a bit of a dip in the middle of the mattress. €150 a night was a bit steep for what it was. It's far from luxury.

Hi clotildev885, Thank you for your review. I am sorry we fell short of your expectations. Our breakfast starts every morning at 6:30am Monday to Friday and from 7am at the weekend. I would appreciate if you could contact me directly on theresaokeeffe@castleoaks.ie in relation to the Shower hose in your room. Both myself and the accommodation Manager have inspected each room and have not found a room with a shower that is non operational. I look forward to hearing from you Theresa O'Keeffe Hotel Manager

If I could give this hotel a zero that would be a more appropriate rating! Bugs in the bathroom, black mold in every crevice of the shower. Hot water side of the shower does not work. Stains on the carpet. This is rated a 4 star? How could this hotel ever acquire a 4 star rating? This is how I know ratings are not real. I am here in current time and these are some of the worst rooms I’ve ever seen. Hair dryers that are so old probably from the 50s or 60s. This place in vile!! Do not stay here under any circumstances! You will regret every minute!!

Poor check in experience Rooms are tired and dated Staff friendly though ( except at check-in) Rooms and bathrooms are really tired and dated, lots of stains on carpets - whole place needs a makeover and soon. As above some staff much better than others

The house is absolutely spectacular! It is located right on the Shannon River, and there were views from our room. We arrived on an evening that was dark and rainy. Unfortunately, the signs were difficult to spot and read, and we drove back and forth before we located the entrance. When we walked into the house, it was hard to determine where the lobby was. There was an employee who passed by, but didn’t offer assistance. After we checked in, we needed to find the lift. It was hard to locate, and another guest ended up helping us. We were the only people staying on our floor in the main house, but I think it would have been quiet anyway. The house is built like a bunker - thick, heavy walls. The room itself was, in a word, a bit disappointing. It lacked the charm that I was expecting. The walls were boring beige, and had cracks and chips in the paint. The doors and hardware were new, but looked like they came from a big box store. There were few outlets in the room, but there was a surge protector strip next to the bed where we could plug in electronics. The floor was carpeted and slopped severely. I don’t know if there are wood floors underneath, but I would have preferred that. The window was absolutely gorgeous! It went from the floor, and was large and wonderful! The furniture was sort of ‘yard sale’ and worn. The bed was not the most comfortable, but was adequate in spite of initially feeling that we were going to slip off from the sloping floors. Breakfast was good. We arrived downstairs after a large tour group ate. There was no more fruit or pastries, but the server was lovely, and the breakfast area was neat and clean! There’s so much potential in this hotel. It could really be a wonderful wedding/destination hotel, and I hope that the owners can bring life back to this space!

After our flight was canceled, the airline shuttled a bunch of us to this tucked away gem in Castleconnell, and if anyone wasn't thrilled, there must be something wrong with them! My stay was made especially enjoyable by the service and professionalism of Josephine in the bar. Having been rather suddenly trampled under by a group of 33 wayward travelers, many in the service industry would have fallen on the occasion, but Josephine herself rose well above it. I sat and enjoyed a few pints while I watched her run about, getting people everything they needed and requested, all the while maintaining her professionalism and courtesy. It is employees like her that give places like this their good name, and I hope the establishment appreciates her half as much as I did! So do yourself a favor, come to Castleconnell and stop by the Castle Oaks House bar and enjoy the good company and service of Josephine! Tell her Joe from New Mexico says hi! (And thanks for setting aside my jacket!)

Staff were absolutely lovely. Looks better on website. Room was old. Only one double socket in the room, under the desk which was at opposite side of room to the bed. TV here. Two of us needed to charge phones and daughter needed to use laptop. Had to ask for hand soap and shower gel. Shower was not easy to use, control for tap/shower not working, therefore I got scalded when turning it off.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Castleoaks. It is full of character and offers all the necessities. The rooms are in keeping with a manor house and includes really high quality soaps and shampoo etc. This brings me to the service and the restaurant. Josephine looked after us for the night and she really made us feel special. It was service like no other I cannot praise it enough. My partner and I were staying with both our parents and she even went as far as taking family pictures for us. The restaurant was busy but Josephine made us feel as though we were the only people there. The food was excellent. In the morning we walked the grounds and it was like being on a retreat! We would most definitely return and we would look forward to seeing Josephine again.
