Have been to Tinakilly twice before and was really looking forward to this night away. Beautiful old house, lovely location, really pretty gardens. First impressions were good but we were a bit disappointed with our room. The wooden surfaces were quite dusty and there were no armchairs in our delux room only dining chairs at a table. Bed very comfortable. Only when in the shower realized there was no shower gel or shampoo only conditioner and body lotion. Continental breakfast served in room (hence table and chairs) not very imaginative- one plate of fruit, yogurt, toast, one croissant and one pain au chocolate. Tea and coffee both supplied but pot of tea was not really enough for 2. On a final good note dinner was excellent, beautifully cooked and lovely atmosphere. We could order a drink before and after.
I hope our issues were minor hiccups related to recently reopening, won’t say I wouldn’t come again but there would have to be improvements

Had the pleasure of being at a family wedding here in September 2020. It is a fabulous venue with gorgeous grounds, and we were really lucky as we seemed to get the last of the very fine summer weather. Covid protocols were very evident and plenty of hand gel dispensers were dotted around the place. Check in was prompt and we got a super large room which was very comfortable. The wedding reception was second to none, service was fantastic – almost run like a military operation. The meal was superb, we couldn’t fault it. Had the luxury of staying for two nights, and sleep quality was great, it is such a quiet peaceful place in the heart of the country, yet not too far away. Plenty of photographic opportunities around the grounds for those of you enjoy taking pictures, and lots of wildlife to be seen. Plenty of pic opportunities in the house itself as well, it is so charming and beautifully maintained. Breakfast is cooked to order, and really good. Staff have to be complimented on their attention to detail and their courteous manner. We would love to stay again at some time in the future.

We had our wedding here at the end of August. Despite the ever changing restrictions we decided to go ahead, the staff at Tinakilly were really helpful and never put us under pressure about making decisions during what was already a stressful time. Despite having to significantly reduce our numbers we had an amazing day. We had our ceremony and drinks reception in the house and the dinner in the marquee - the room was set up so well, no one noticed the smaller numbers. We had so much positive feedback from guests who said they felt extremely safe at all time and were amazed by food, service and pictureseque setting. Almost all of our guests stayed over too and were so pleased with their rooms and breakfast the next morning. We are delighted we went ahead and wouldnt change anything about our day.

Having booked a 2 night stay on the Tinakilly House's own website well in advance we arrived around 5pm on the Friday evening. Checked in and found our room. It's a quaint old building so even though the radiator controls were broken and couldn't be turned off and the main lights in the room didn't work we were happy with the room. Had a very nice breakfast the next morning and we headed of for the day.

At around 5.30pm the hotel reception called my mobile. They wanted to know why we hadn't checked out that morning. I replied that our booking was for 2 nights. They said no, it was just for 1 but if we wished to stay for the Saturday night we were lucky because the room was available. After the call ended we checked the hotel's booking confirmation email and sure enough it was there in black and white, 2 nights.

Later when we arrived back at the hotel we went straight to reception. There were 2 ladies behind the desk. We told them who we were and asked what was going on. They said we had made a mistake and only booked the 1 night
My wife said no, we booked 2 to which one of the ladies said there was only a single night on their system. They had been surprised we hadn't checked out and even though we had left a do not disturbed sign on our room door they had gone in to see if we had left the hotel. However, again she said we happened to be in luck because the room was available for the second night.

I produced the email booking confirmation. They read it and said that it must be their computer system that was at fault. Surprisingly, she told us that this had happened a few time before. On one particular night they even turned away a booked guest because they didn't have the booking on the system and the hotel was full. I asked why the issue hadn't been fixed in the meantime but didn't get an answer. The staff seemed unconcerned that this had happened before and that nothing had been done to fix the problem.

Up until the time we produced our email the staff seemed happy to blame us for making the mistake. At no time then or later did they apologies or say sorry for their error. If they had no room that Saturday night and we had no email we believe we would have come back to find our bags packed at the door.

We liked the hotel, the location is excellent and the food was good but the booking issue soured the weekend. I would advise checking your booking by phone or email before any visit to confirm you will have a room when you arrive.

Where to start? We won't be back!

At check in on 18th Sept we offered our Covid vaccine certificates but were told it wasn't necessary
There was no information offered at check in about the facilities of the hotel, just directions to the room. We asked about the location of the dining room, that information was given but nothing else.
The room (no 4) had: a musty smell, stains on the carpet, dirty window and sills, no tea/coffee making facility, no clothes iron, poor bathroom lighting and a shaving light in the bathroom that didn't work. Lighting in the bedroom was poor especially at the area around the 'dressing table'.

We took a table outside in one of the cubes, the table had not been cleared/cleaned and remained so while we used it.
I ordered a beer and a glass of Malbec, I returned the untouched wine due to lipstick smears, when the 'replacement' arrived it was also dirty so on the 3rd attempt we got a clean glass

We moved to the lobby as it was getting chilly, again no evidence of cleaning tables between users
As is common in most hotels during the Pandemic we enquired at the bar about post dinner table reservations for drinks. The young barman couldn't help but arrived in the lobby with a man who we assumed was the manager. He didn't introduce himself just repeat our question to us and said bluntly 'we don't do that here, we have plenty of seats' (oops, sorry for asking!)

Just before dinner we sat in the lobby, we overheard a couple complaining about no hot water in their room. A young memer of staff explained it could be an issue until 11.30pm as they were waiting for a plumber!

The dinner menu was very basic, 3 starter choices and 4 mains + some deserts, it reminded me of a menu we would have seen 30 years ago in a 3☆ hotel. The dining room1 was busy but no real structure around the table service, staff just darting from the kitchen to different tables without any of the tables getting all their food

The breakfast was largely inedible, really overcooked bacon on one plate and 'soggy' scrambled egg on the other!

The pint of Guinness was quite good though!

This could be a great destination for a few nights away, a corporate event etc but until it gets new management and a little financial injection it will continue to go downhill.

I booked an overnight stay with dinner in August for myself and my mother for her 85th birthday. Prior to booking, I phoned the hotel to check out some details just to make sure that the hotel would suit my mam. These were answered satisfactorily and we looked forward to the trip

At check-in, the lady at reception asked me what time I had booked breakfast for the following morning. This was the first time I heard of this. She went on to say that all guests had been emailed to inform them that due to Covid, breakfast would be served to guests in their bedrooms and it would be continental breakfast. Whilst I had no issue in eating breakfast in our room, I had a big difficulty in not being informed about it beforehand and being afforded an opportunity to book elsewhere for my mam's birthday. Also, we weren't keen on a continental breakfast for our special occasion. I must say that we found the breakfast to be very poor, white toast and croissants basically with some fruit, most definitely not four star.

Just to say, we enjoyed a lovely dinner in the restaurant and all the staff were very attentive and polite.

Upon returning home, I double checked to see if I had overlooked some correspondence from the hotel in relation to the breakfast arrangements - I had not. I note with interest that another guest has made similar comments in their review, so my experience on this matter was not unique.

I have written to the hotel twice since our visit outlining my issues and regret to say that after 3wks I have had no contact from them whatsoever. I would have thought as a matter of courtesy that I would have received an acknowledgement at the very least.

I found the hotel's communications with me to be much less than I would have reasonably expected from a four star establishment. They did not notify me of the breakfast arrangements in advance of arrival and they then ignored two written pieces of correspondence from me on the subject. Very substandard customer service and for this reason I feel our overall experience deserves a less than fulsome review. We will not be going back.

Shower gel not provided. If you like a toothbrush glass, bring your own as they're not provided either.

This hotel was not baby friendly, despite advertising that children of all ages are welcome. Changes to the hotel setup due to COVID were not adequately communicated to guests prior to arrival. There were no tea/coffee facilities in the room and no kettle with which to prepare baby formula. There was no information about how to contact reception from the room and it took two physical requests to organise hot water for the room. There was no baby/child friendly food available and after waiting approximately 30 minutes for a high chair, were presented with something substandard. Straps old and didn't work and chair didn't fit at the table at all. Staff were terribly unfriendly and unaccomodating. No room service was available at all, including tea and coffee. No staff available in the morning before 8am to organise more hot water for baby's bottle. Breakfast was not a hot, cooked breakfast but was substandard, unhealthy continental. I will not bring my family back here.

Wow! Spent two nights here and works happily have done a third.
We had glorious weather which of course helps but this place is an absolute haven of tranquility and we enjoyed every minute.

I would like to say a big thank you to the staff in the Brunel dining, and in particular the lady in charge there. She’s is so lovely and has the knack of making you feel welcome and relaxed.

All the staff are polite, efficient and and very good at what they do. And the food- delicious. We did not leave a morsel of food on our plates either night, after three courses

You must see this house and the gardens. A haven in Wicklow. Do not be put off by the bad reviews which make me suspicious.

We stayed in one of the Robin’s Nest rooms overlooking the side garden. Extremely comfortable, clean and decorated in a mix of antique and modern which I found very classy and relaxed.

Hugely recommended. Excellent value. A gem.

A beautiful country house hotel situated in lovely , quiet gardens . Despite other reviews below , we were very impressed by our room. Given Covid 19 restrictions , we knew that usual hotel features eg tea /coffee , iron etc have been removed from a lot of hotels . We were ok with that. They did leave two bottles of water. Our room was in the house itself and it was large and spacious . We had a big four poster bed and the room overlooked the gardens . The house has old style furniture so for some this might not be your cup of tea . The evening food in the restaurant was very good (lovely choice and flavours)Dinner was included in our package. . Every table had individual hand sanitizers . Breakfast was disappointing. The staff were new so were being trained in so got a little confused but we didn’t mind as everyone has to learn . What we did notice was that it was table service but we ordered and our food arrived out in less than 5 minutes meaning food had been precooked not what you’d expect in a four star hotel. Considering the lovely dinner the previous night the breakfast was very average. Lovely little bar in the house snd plenty of tables well spaced outside to have a drink. Nice cocktail menu too.

We had such a wonderful and memorable Birthday Celebration weekend at Tinakilly House.
The help and reassurance that I received from the event team was just brilliant. I would have been lost without their expertise and organisation skills. The Halpin Room I reserved looked just lovely, so welcoming for my guests. I loved the long table and the decorations as well as the warm and cosy fire they had ready for us.

The organisation of the meal went so very well. The service team did such a brilliant job with their quiet, professional and most attentive serving of the meal. The menu (big thank you to the chef and kitchen personnel) was delicious and just what I had hoped for and I received so many compliments. The salmon as well as the fantastic risotto went down so well. The wine was very good and my guests were pleased with it. Another highlight was the marvellous dessert as well as the more than tasty scones we were presented with in the late afternoon. The presentation and the timing was all so very perfect, thoughtful and wonderfully done.

Also the lovely ladies at the reception they were all so very kind and patient in getting our rooms organised and everybody happy with their rooms. I was just overall charmed with the rooms as well as the Halpin room and Tinakilly House itself. It worked so well for my celebration. Everybody was so attentive, friendly and generous. I really appreciated it very much. The team did all in their power to make everybody’s stay and my special Birthday celebration just perfect.
I wouldn’t have changed anything and I`ll certainly be back again.
