BrookLodge & Macreddin Village offers a dichotomy of charm and datedness, with cozy fires and scenic river views winning some guests' hearts, while others find the rooms lackluster and not worth the premium price. Cleanliness generally meets expectations, though a few travelers suggest more rigorous upkeep. The accommodations elicit mixed reviews, with comfort and style noted by some, while others bemoan small, outdated spaces. Service is predominantly commended for its warmth and attentiveness, despite occasional lapses. The hotel's amenities, including the spa and dining, are highlights, yet not without calls for refinement.

As we are adjusting to living with Covid 19 now, my partner and I decided to take the plunge and do a staycation. We really wanted to go to a place were we could unwind and I'm so happy to say that's exactly what we got in the Brooklodge. We choose this hotel for two reasons, 1. Location, we wanted to go remote and explore the great outdoors in Wicklow 2. Pet friendly, we are dog owners and didn't want to leave our Lily at home.

I can't speak highly enough about our experience with Lily at the Brooklodge, we were both nervous about bringing her but the staff made us feel so welcome with Lily. Everything was left in the room for us, poop bags, treats, bowls, bed and even food on request was available for her, there is even a cosy kennel on site which is coded which gave us peace of mind as we dined in the evening. The walks nearby are brilliant for dogs too. The kindness shown by staff during Lily's stay just made our trip even better. She thought it was paw-fect 😂 what we thought would be a stressful experience was nothing short of seamless.

If you want a relaxing hotel with AMAZING food, great staff and that feeling of escapism then this is the hotel for you. We dined here completely during our stay and every meal was excellent, particularly in the strawberry tree. We loved how tranquil the hotel was, even having an hot chocolate by the cosy fire on Monday afternoon was exactly the comfort we so badly needed from our busy schedules.

From a Covid perspective all guidelines were adhered too and we felt safe at all times, it was so clearly explained and visible throughout our stay that additional cleaning was in place.

Thanks to all the staff for giving us a staycation where we left so well rested compared to our exhausted minds! 😊 10/10 From Lily too!

We selected this hotel as it was dog friendly and our dogs did enjoy the stay and were very welcomed. They had a doggy bowl and basket in the room and multiple bins around so you can clean up after them. There is a charge of €50 a night which is a little steep I think.

Food is lively as we had room service and ate in the Italian restaurant. Breakfast was lively with a good selection and great staff, manager was especially friendly and down to earth, didn't even realize she was the manager until someone was giving out just to give out.

Not really a family location as the pool is very deep (I think it's 1.2m deep) so our baby was not comfortable. It also had some of the tiles crumbling which I got a little splinter in my foot.
The leisure area is separate and gorgeous, especially liked the outdoor hot tub. Steam room and sauna not operating due to covid reg.

Only issue was getting room service one night, we thought we could order from the restaurant but we're told it was fully booked so had to get soup instead for dinner.

Just looked back and it is 8 years since we had been to Brooklodge, we won't leave it so long next time. We had the chance for a night away without the children so booked a suite in Brooklodge. It was as good as I remembered, beautiful room fantastic grounds and just so so relaxing which was lovely after lockdown with two small children :)
We had dinner in the Italian (but sat in the bar for social distancing), which was great. This is our second hotel break since lockdown lifted, we are doing a few hotel breaks to feel like it is summer and this was a fantastic night away.
Staff all wearing masks, still super friendly, constant cleaning of doors and high touch areas, santiser stations all round. We really felt relaxed and safe, keep up the great work. Cannot wait to visit again.
Just on the previous reviews regarding dogs, we seen a number of people with small dogs so they do seem to accommodate small dogs.

The one star is purely for the excellent service given by the spa as otherwise I would have given no stars. My family and I have been coming here for years and in covid times I was confident the hotel would continue to deliver excellent service despite restrictions. Instead they have clearly used this time as an excuse to offer poor service and save money by offering less facilities under the facade of "safety". My partner and I don't drive so on this one occasion we got public transport here, which I would never recommend to anyone else - exponentially increasing the effort to get here for very little reward. We spent the weekend asking if reception would look after our bags for us as we intended hanging around for a few hours after check out and going for walks, which we couldn't do with our bags and after spending the weekend initially fobbing us off we were eventually told no, for safety they couldn't look after our bags. This is literally the first time in over 20 years of travelling I've stayed anywhere that couldn't look after my luggage and for it to be a very expensive 4 star hotel is insulting.
In addition, we were shouted at by golfers for walking on the path at the edge of the golf course. I've been staying here for years so am very familiar with the marked paths and where is and isn't recommended for walking and this was the first time there ever was an issue for following the marked paths. When we told the hotel, we were told that we shouldn't have been walking on the golf course. We got a treatment on the last day after checking out and the staff at the spa had no problem looking after our bags during the 2.5 hours we spent in the swimming pool and treatment area. I do not recommend staying here if you don't drive and/or if you want to spend time walking in the area as it's very difficult to get to by public transport, they don't look after bags and there's now a risk of being verbally abused by golfers.

Stayed here as a party of 3 for a family trip. This is my second time here and although some parts weren’t the same due to Covid restrictions it was so relaxing and peaceful! We were put in the brook hall lodges instead of the hotel this time and the room had a lovely patio to sit out on, the weather was fab so this was a great addition. The room was lovely and big. The one thing that disappointed us was that after booking, we decided to bring my grandmother and so we tried to get a 3 person room and requested a double and single bed and were told this wasn’t possible, so we had to pay €190 extra for my grandmother to get a room on her own but when we arrived our room had a double and single bed so she would have been able to share a room with us. We were willing to pay extra to have her in our room of course but €190 is a lot for one person considering the two of us payed €170 total for our room. She is elderly so we were a bit worried about her because her room was around the corner from ours. Apart from this I would have given the hotel 5 stars. It is amazing! Seán at reception was really friendly and so were all the other staff we encountered. We had lunch in the Waterside Lounge and Alanna was very helpful, serving my grandmother at 5:30 even though they had stopped doing food at that time. The wells spa is amazing! We booked a slot but unlike other hotels I have been to there is no rush to get you out and the numbers are kept to a minimum, making it so much more enjoyable. The hot tub is a great addition, really enjoyable! We had a drink in the waterside again that evening and was served by a lovely young fella, didn’t catch his name but he was really polite. The breakfast is the nicest in Ireland! Especially the pancakes, the nicest I’ve ever had. So much selection and all the food tastes so fresh and organic. The last thing is the grounds, I love how the animals roam free and there’s lovely places to walk. I would and have recommended to all!

To be honest after 4 days here for a 50th birthday weekend -I would not be recommending this hotel, dogs allowed which is fantastic but they got better treated than we did.
From the moment we arrived on Friday 25 June 2021 when the receptionist didn’t lift his head to speak to us ….till we left Tuesday morning we were not acknowledged, nobody asked us if we are enjoying our stay. Nobody asked us if we were ok, in fact staff were ignorant accept for 2 nice girls. The barman needs to brush up in his manors. Reception staff need a refresher course on manors. They all need to realise that it’s the residence that’s keeping the hotel open and just because it was full house and reopened after lockdown that they can block out the people they don’t have time for . Covid is a great excuse for NO ROOM SERVICE - even though they covered themselves by giving out a letter at check in saying that we needed to ask for room service if we required same. So we did have to request towels water and toilet paper.
As we liked a particular bottle of wine we asked if it was ok to open it as we had food told yes of course. Then to be told by the bar man to stop in front of other residents!! … as we were residents I expected better treatment. Yes if we were in a pub I understand this is not acceptable as we would be customers but we were residents and had left a lot of money here and on the 4 th night nobody knew our names or even cared . 4 star beautiful hotel but not good enough I say. The hotel was full to capacity, we felt they were waiting for us to leave on the Tuesday morning. But we had words with the manager before we left. He apologised for us leaving with a sour taste in our mouths!!
Extremely disappointed and upset with this place.
I would not be recommending this place or returning.

Dinner. Requested a second bottle of wine. I had to go back 20 mins later and ask again. The waiter then arrived, and proceeded to train someone on how to pour the wine without even asking is this acceptable.
Breakfast. Arrived 8:45 to a breakfast room 1/3 empty. That was the latest morning time we given. On a relaxation break, actually, my Birthday, we had to set our alarm to get up for Breakfast. Gave the order after 5 mins. It took another 27 mins to get glass of juice and cereal. Atrocious. Ridiculous. 32 mins in the restaurant before getting a glass of juice and cereal. On what planet is that 4 stars. The table with juice and cereals was 10 feet away but, we vaccinated people cant even touch it, yet un-vaccinated teenagers can. It might be better if someone was stationed there with Hand sanitizer and we could all get our own juice and cereals. The General Manager came to our table to apologize. I proceeded to explain the situation, and was clearly upset. He then proceeded to tell me not to address any member of his staff but only himself. At that point my wife walked out as it seemed to imply that I was the problem for raising this issue. Also, in the 32 minutes in the restaurant before we left, only one waitress came over to take the order. He, the General Manager, did not make himself known, so how on earth were we to address only him. Disgraceful. I'll never step foot in that place again, and will make sure I tell as many people as I can about this.

We stayed 2 nights in one of the Mezzanine suites and we had an amazing trip. As soon as we arrived we felt so welcome, the check in staff were very friendly and went through everything with us. Our suite was spotless, it had two floors with a gas fire and seating area downstairs along with a wardrobe area and large bathroom. Upstairs there was a free standing bath and very large bed. The first night we ate in the Italian restaurant which has a lovely pathway from the hotel to the restaurant. The restaurant is very cosy and the food was gorgeous and service was very good. The second night we ate in the strawberry tree which was out of this world. We have never experienced food like what we had here. If staying in this hotel the strawberry tree is a must. Both mornings breakfast was perfect and we also ate lunch in the waterside lounge both days, the lounge is very cosy and you could easily spend hours relaxing there with the open fires.
From start to finish we had an excellent experience, every staff member we met was so friendly and welcoming. I will definitely return for another break away.

We stayed 2 nights, 2 adults and young teen but the clues were in the booking process. They did not welcome our son and we had to keep looking for him to be treated as a guest (towels/cups/restaurant booking error all for 2 not 3). We misunderstood where the pool and our room was and assumed they were in the same building and would all be comfortable/safe and easy to access. All the staff were very nice but real sense not joined up or well managed. Terrible table first night in Italian restaurant despite booking 2 months in advance and not sure why we were out in front of kitchen door, waitress banged into back of my chairs twice and then asked to be moved. This restaurant may be best for pizza, ordered simple tomato/mozzarella salad and bizarrely was served with red onions/red peppers not mentioned in menu and not nice. Service at breakfast was not good but staff nice, we gave up waiting for our porridge order first morning. The Neal in strawberry tree was excellent, great food/service. Restaurant empty as wedding on so rooms and hotel focus on this. The setting is lovely. No sign of a manager checking on guests for our 2 day stay. Pity but world not recommend staying if there is a wedding on same time. Maybe it is better when then...

This place was recommended to us and we had quite high expectations from what we were told...
The check-in, The best part, was a friendly lady, full of positivity and knowledge, Delighted to be met first by her, a great start when showing up somewhere new and exciting..
We got to our room, it was fine, dated, smaller bed than at home in our house..but we said lets see what else the place has to offer.. before judging.
The bar/lounge before dinner, Just a mass off lined up sofas in an empty feeling room with no character.. you can find more life in a church carpark I would assume.
The service seemed to be still on holidays and we waited 19 mins for a Heineken and a glass of SV blanc.. No music, No tv screen, A non-lit fireplace, very quite.. no atmosphere, Very poor.
We left after our first drink, then sat for dinner in the strawberry-tree restaurant.
Beautifully decorated dark room, with perfectly laid tables, The menu consists of high end produce, one of us unfortunately chewed on on shotgun pellets while consuming our pigeon dish, it does mention this potential hazard on the menu however.. Albeit, Service was very good, the wine and both mains with sides were just perfect. Only reason we gave it 2 stars was dinner..
Would I return or recommend? Definitely not and very glad it was just the one uneventful night.

The hot tub is in the spa. Use of the hot tub and swimming pool in spa is included in your stay but you have to phone spa to book it. Tends to be very crowded

We did not use these facilities during our stay as it was very short so I am not sure. I do know we loved it there. We did get lost and we even had a gps. If you can get the gps coordinates ahead of time that will help. We found a local who wrote down all directions for us. Enjoy your stay.
