The Amber Springs Hotel and Health Spa presents a dichotomy with its atmosphere, where some guests appreciate the relaxed, family-friendly environment despite criticisms of outdated decor. While the spaciousness of the rooms is a plus for families, issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and noise have been noted. The hotel's location earns positive marks for its convenience, but the value proposition is challenged by guests who deem the services overpriced. Service is generally commended for being family-oriented, yet dining and responsiveness have room for enhancement. The amenities are acknowledged for their child-friendly appeal, although some believe they could be improved.

This was our first visit to the Amber Springs for 4 nights this week in a Family Den Suite with our 2 children 8 & 9.
The hotel was well recommended for families with all the facilities to keep everyone entertained.

The children had a great time at the go-karts, mini golf, archery, cinema and making friends at the playground. There was a bird display one morning and everyone got to learn about the birds and take photos. The man doing the show had great patience with the children and made sure everyone got a chance to see the birds up close and even hold some of them.

The hotel was well set up for covid with good procedures in place to keep all as safe as possible. There were sanitising stations everywhere and Staff wore visors and recorded room numbers for contact tracing.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

There was a good selection of food at breakfast. We had to pre-book breakfast and dinner slots prior to our stay using the hotel app. We ate at B&G and Farina and everything was lovely.

The bedrooms are large, had plenty storage space and had a welcome box of chocolates & drink bags for the kids which was a nice touch.
Nice smart Tv with Netflix and tea/coffee facilities in the room.
The bathrooms had a bath and a large walk in shower with Elemis products.
A king or queen bed would be nice in the suites.

The bunk bed area in the suites have USB ports but no normal plug.
Also at night there is no nightlight or light switch next to the top bunk so it’s dangerous for any child on the top bunk to try to climb down in the dark ... i had to install a night light app on my phone and leave that in the bunk area to have some small light.

The bedrooms were quite warm and the windows only opened about an inch so we had to use the air-con to cool the room.

We booked a slot in the pool one day but due to covid we had to change into our swim wear in the bedroom and then walk to the pool area wrapped in the bathroom towels as there are no bathrobes ... then walk back all wet in the tiny towels. A few bath sheets or robes would be handy.

We had a lovely stay and definitely recommend to any family with young children... just bring a battery operated night light for the bunk area.

Amber Springs has the potential of being an excellent hotel. I booked a family room for myself daughter and grandson, I received a call a couple of days beforehand offering me a special upgrade to room with a den for 30 euro per night I agreed as my grandson loves bunk beds and I thought it would be a great surprise. My daughter and I didn't want to share a bed so after realising the Den Room only had a standard double bed with 2 sets of bunk beds I phoned reservations I was assured that the bottom bunk beds were full size singles suitable for an adult to sleep on. However when arrived the matress on bunk beds were foam mattress about 2" thick not suitable for an adult to sleep on.

That night when we went to bed there was a loud droaning noise and we couldn't sleep. I called reception the young man was extremely helpful, after approximately 30 minutes we agreed to move to another room without bunk beds, my grandson was very upset.

The play area was smelly, milky nappy smell, we couldn't stay in it for very long. The train wasn't running. There was no balls for pool table.

The swimming pool is to small compared to size of hotel. The changing area is extremely small and there is always a que for showers The shower curtains in pool area are filthy. There is 5 euro deposit for towels. On day one we were never asked to pay on day two we were asked however I had no money on me and we were still given towels a bit embarrassing.

On the plus side bar food and italian was nice but table service was slow. Karts and crazy golf great but an extra charge 3 euro per person.

Staff throughout the hotel were friendly.

On checkout I complained and the receptionist offered to remove one nights upgrade, I explained that as we had to move room at 1am on the first night that I had not benefited from upgrade so she agreed to discount the price 60 euros.

We recently had a family break in Amber Springs Our group consisted of 7 adults, 3 children and a small baby We booked four rooms for our stay The rooms were excellent. comfortable and spotless
We mostly ate in BBG Food here was basically pub grub and was very acceptable Staff were very accommodating - tailored children's meals to suit them
Without fail we found the staff to be superb, from the coffee shop lady to the "train driver". Hotel can be proud of the entire staff
Our children had a ball They loved the play centre, pool, train ride, playground, everything Highest recommendation is that they want to return to Amber Springs

The good :
friendly and great with kids, plenty for them to do and see. Staff adhering to Covid rules. Food great for kids, didn’t have a chance to eat in all restaurants but the places we went food was nice.

The bad :
Activities up in the air, online it says you have to book your slot, then you show up and it’s a free for all, other activities no booking required and your told you can’t participate when you show up (imagine a four year old being told she can’t go to the play zone she waited all day to go to just to be told it was closed for cleaning at the time you booked it for).

The real f&@king ugly :
on arrival my pregnant wife was left standing at reception without a reason while a receptionist skurries off to the back only to reappear ten mins later to tell us the room we booked was flooded...............the suite was on the second floor (yes I’m serious).

We were given another suite but had no fridge (we had baby milk, yogarts, ham cheese for the kids). Later that night we managed to get the room we wanted, no flood damage in sight kids were 2 hours over they’re bed time. The fridge didn’t work in the new room, which meant all refrigerated items we bought were spoilt. Asked 3 times Over 2 days for someone to look at it, needless to say nothing happened, was offered X2 to use the communal fridge which we refused based on the ould Pandemic of course. Also found a diabetic unopened insulin pen syringe in the safe.

My wife mentioned all the above the manager apologized and said we would get a discount next time we booked. Needles to say won’t be going back any time soon.

Dear 125daire. Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. Your positive feedback is much appreciated. The team is working to stay within the guidlines laid out by the Government. The booking of activities is one area laid out that we are required to ask guests to do. This is new and in the main has been very successful. The negative is when guests pre book activities and change their plans for what ever reason. If they have not cancelled this booking it appears that we are rejecting requests from other interested guests, when in fact the booking system shows full. We appreciate this is causing frustrations and are continuing to work to look for a solution. Playzone is open 7am to 7pm daily. There are designated times for sanitation where the area is closed. This again is in line with our Covid safety charter for everyones safety. The bedroom you were allocated was flooded by the departing guest. This was made known when the housekeeping team accessed it for cleaning at 12 noon. As there is a limited number of Den Suites at the hotel, the team worked to rectify the wet carpet. This takes time to be treated and dried. The room was returned to you later in the evening and as you correctly state there was no flood damage in sight as the team had rectified this. The other room allocated to you did not have the bunk beds, so we were anxious to get you the room you had booked. Apologises that this impacted on your stay but the situation that presented was out of the control of the housekeeping department. I am sorry to read you will not be returning should this change please contact the Front Office Manger who will be delighted to look after your booking personally. thank you.

Just back home in Dublin for a 3 week lockdown so timing was perfect for this 4 day staycation. I travelled solo on a Pigsback VOucher which had a few extras thrown in so well worth it if yu can find one! The hotel has had a total refurb and is amazing, I wouldnt advise for business travellers just as there were loads and loads of kids and the hotel totally caters for families and kids alike. I was in Room 317, it was in the front overlooking the lovely fountain and main road but still very quiet, a double bed and a single, kettle, hairdryer, safe and toiletries in bathroom. I had breakfast included in price so had it in the room every morning €7 charge great breakfasts and choices available. Loads of wardrobe space, wifi was a bit slow but manageable, tv channels I think could be a saorview deal or something as not a great selection but so much to do in the hotel you wont spend alot of time in your room. Definitel if there was a minibar or mini fridge I would rate the hotel as a 5 star, the weather was fab for the 4 days so everything was warm in the room!! All the staff from bar/restaurant/reception/Spa/Pool extremely nice and will do anything for you to make your stay better. The food in all 4 areas is magnificient. It just has everything, huge pool adults and kids, petting zoo, playground, mini train ride, archery, little football pitch, beautiful gardens and outside seating areas and all exceptionally clean. I really cant fault anything except for mini fridge/mini bar that would make it 5 star for definite, if you can get down for Halloween or Christmas it will be worth every penny your kids will love it. I will definitely be back again.

Booked into the hotel for one night spa time-out package but it was very expensive at the price of €375 for 2 people as originally on site priced €277 but as it was the weekend an extra charge of €100. We arrived at the reception to a girl called Lauren who said we could not have our room until 4.00pm but when i booked it i asked the girl if it was possible to get it earlier as it was a special occasion and she said we could, maybe 2.00pm which i agreed. But Lauren was adamant we were not getting the room any earlier and was not friendly or helpful. She told us to leave our suitcases at the concierge which is in an unsupervised hall-way with other bags anyone could walk away with so we took our bags with us. We had a food voucher included in the deal for €50.00 which we then went to have lunch while we waited for the room only to be told we could only use it on one full transaction, which is ridiculous. Lady in the bar said as it caters for children it could be noisy and did we still want a table!! One positive from the experience was in the Cocoon spa, all the staff were very friendly and polite and the treatments were lovely. Finally when we got the room it was cold, dusty and the towels were a bit worn, also the television is very dated and not the usual flat screen you expect in hotels.Considering you have to wait until 4.00pm for the room at least you expect it to be thoroughly sparkling. Breakfast the next morning was okay but again the staff were not friendly. We will not be making a return visit.

Dear Maureey, Sad to read your feedback, we really did not tick the boxes for you, we will take the positives and continue and on the opportunities for improvement will work ever so hard to improve, the pricing of rooms would naturally fluctuate & the package and date you chose was at a very transparent price and you chose it, our check in time is indeed 4pm, we will get guests into the rooms before that if it is humanly possible and regularly check in guests way before that time, however this will be down to the day and with an arrival on a Saturday after a full Friday evening and heavy check out to return rooms for a full Saturday evening, we can only work as hard as we can to hit the 4pm deadline, I am sure you understand - disspointed that you will not return but I do appreciate your feedback - thank you

It was great to be back and comforting to see all the new measures introduced to help with this new world. Our room was immaculately clean with a visible and noticeable step up on overall cleanliness (sanitisers everywhere and very active cleaning ongoing).

Breakfast worked very well and spacing for all food services was adequately achieved by sensible use of the currently excess hotel space like function rooms.

The activity/restaurant booking system did work but obviously there are some capacity issues at peak times. So whereas, for example, we did get a swim everyday it was a slight annoyance all the morning slots were gone. Similar challenge getting evening kids club slots. Just an idea, but some sort of credit system may work better to ensure the same few people don't block the popular slots daily e.g. on a 3 night stay you get 1 credit for morning, afternoon and evening swims. I appreciate its a balancing act but if the hotel is at capacity and the services are limited then it would seem fairest to try distribute the limited peak slots.

The kids club staff we excellent & movie room was a big hit.

Overall a great break. There were a few niggles but I'll put those down to the quick return to operation :D

We stayed for one night. (Saturday 8th Feb) 2 rooms interconnection. 3 adults, 2 kids. We also requested a disabled toilet for my mother in law who is in a wheelchair due to broken leg and also has the big C. Actually Lauren think that was her name on checkout ,management anyway said we didn’t as she took the booking ( customer not always right). As a result we had to use disabled toilet somewhere down the corridor including a trip in the middle of the night. No discount offered or any future discount. I also made a simple suggestion about 3 times, if door opened out it would be a fully functional disabled toilet.. that fell on deaf ears clearly. Dinner in the Italian, shocking 3 Cesar salads ... 3 plates of leaves at nearly €15 a head! Overall outside of above this place is badly in need of some upgrades. Small gym, small pool, changing rooms for about 4 or 5 people. Broke pool cues.. black ball AWOL. VR room kids enjoyed couple of play stations @ €5 for 30mins. Management could be a bit more sympathetic and perhaps use all their training or perhaps people experience to take in the situation and offer the right words vs what training told them. Appreciate they are running a business, customer service is key unfortunately when you are in the hospitality industry it kinda decides if people will return and recommend to other people... hopefully next hotel will meet all our requirements as mother in law is not allowed to fly due to condition. Staycations for us thought this was the one for a summer return with all the recommendations from friends and family.. no thanks.

Dear 076DavidF, I am very dissapointed to read your feedback, certainly not where we want to be, perhaps you cvan give my rooms division manager Ness an email on nobrien@amberspringshotel.ie and we will try to turn this around and bring you round, certainly not the feedback we are used too, I am a little perplexed on the booking issue as our interconecting rooms would all be of equal grades & our accessible rooms of which we have 5 in the building are purpose built to a very exact standard and building code and would be not interconnecting - crossed wires I feel, I do hope you email Ness and we can sort this out. thanks

We have just returned from a three night break for our son 2nd birthday and we can safely say we had a great time.

From the minute we arrived we were greeted with smiles and excellent customer service and this excellent service continued throughout or stay.
All the staff were so helpful, friendly, patient and couldn't do enough for us. A special mention to the housekeeping staff on the third floor and the two ladies that looked after the lobby area. Thank you for the fun interactions and the bit of craic we had.

We had a slight issue with the room (312) we were allocated with but after speaking to reception we were moved to another room directly facing it to room 311.

The room was very spacious and clean with everything you could need in a hotel room. The one thing that I would like to see in the rooms in a small fridge to store fruit and other cool snacks for kids.

On the first night we had dinner in the main restaurant and we definitely had no complaints as the food was excellent and very fresh. We had two meals included in our package so decided to use them in the pizza restaurant and burger restaurant. Both restaurants were excellent with delicious food and service. If you have to choose between the two, definitely go for the pizza as it was the best woodfired pizza I've had in a while.
The breakfast each morning was really good with a great selection on offer. You can also order poached eggs and an omelette if you prefer.

The one thing that really impressed me was, the hotel provides free small bottles of milk for children if they still take a bottle. They also have baby rooms on the ground and first floors. These rooms have baby changing facilities, bottle heaters/ sterilising and a microwave.

Our son absolutely loved the Amber Park play area. He especially loved seeing the animals in the petting farm, the wooden tractor and the go-karting (Truth be told I enjoyed the go- karting more.) The grounds are very well maintained. The Amber Express and fairy village is also excellent but get your name down early as it fills up quickly. The soft play is definitely for the 4 years and over. There was a small area for the under fours, but unfortunately there was nothing in it for them to play with so maybe this could be updated in the future.

The pool was good but always busy, definitely try to avoid the after school times as there are swimming lessons that take place and half the pool is closed off.

Like all hotels it does have its faults, yes some areas could do with an update, but overall we can safely say our stay was excellent value for money and very enjoyable. It was such a breath of fresh air to have such excellent customer service, attention to detail and good old Irish hospitality. We enjoyed it so much we have booked the same package again for Easter next year.

Thanks for a great few days Amber Springs Team.

This was our second visit to Amber Springs and we’ll definitely be back again (and again). I’ve never stayed in a hotel which is so incredibly good for families. The rooms (we stayed in the more expensive rooms because we were bringing four kids with us) are palatial and spotless and housekeeping do an amazing job. The staff are, without exception, friendly and beyond helpful. The food in the restaurants, especially at breakfast is really good. The selection at breakfast is fantastic and the freshly cooked pancakes and waffles is an extra delight.

But that’s all a bit irrelevant. What really mattress is the family stuff. Being able to sit outside in the sun for dinner while the kids play right beside us in the playground is a joy for both parents and children. Being able to spend the day at the karts, archery, playground and everything else makes for a great holiday. But it is the unexpected extras like the bird shows, the snake exhibitions and the train ride to the elf village that the kids really remember. We spent several days here both years abs rarely left the grounds of the hotel at all.

Extra kudos to the staff who brought me a (free!) coffee at 5am when I was up with an unsleeping baby and the manager who came on duty at 6 and individually checked that everyone with unsleeping babies and got their coffees.

hi. karting is nothing spectacular. just a few very slow electrical rides around a short track, suitable for 5-7 year olds. i dont think that there is a charge for it, but minigolf and other activities such as pool table charge. equipment standard is very poor. when you are paying a reasonably high price for a family hotel, childrens amenities should be free. archery costs 3€ for 10 arrows. "zoo", for what it is, is free.
