I've stayed here four times and more is a must. The value is the best anywhere, and it’s 100% genuine. The atmosphere is old-fashioned quality. Clean, cosy and atmospheric. Dave, the host, and his good wife Mary are the definition of kindness and genuine care. It’s all done with humour and real good will. The food is just great quality and mighty tasty.

A hotel full of character, very friendly staff, in a beautiful area. Security is good with electronic combination locks on the electric entry gates, front door & inner door. Plenty of parking is available directly in front of the building.

I stayed at the Pilgrims Rest over a weekend while hiking up Knockmealdown with a group of friends. This would be one of the most interesting places I have ever stayed and one I am least likely to forget. We arrived at the hotel late on a Friday night after crawling over a mountain in extremely dense fog. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely couple who had prepared a wholesome meal for us in advance at a very reasonable price. The hotel itself is different to what one would expect. When you walk in the door it feels more like a religious retreat. Nearly everything, from the furniture to the paintings, to the bed sheets, to architecture of each room all reawaken memories of visiting your grandparents house as a child. The hotel is very quiet, there are other guests, but you…

We have just left there after staying a week, the hosts David and Mary were lovely and always asked how we were, how our day was, how we slept etc, both very nice polite people. The room was nice and warm, a lovely bed to rest after busy days. Luckily when we arrived, even though we were early, we were allowed straight to our room and found it just how we would need. We paid for breakfast each morning and our hosts would always offer tea/coffee and even offer the cooked breakfast although we never had it, apart from one day when we had boiled eggs which were cooked to perfection. The hotel is so peaceful you barely even notice the other guests there. The road leading to the hotel was a bit bumpy (obviously nothing to do with the hotel) but the views you end up seeing make the…

This is very reasonably priced accommodation, has safe parking, clean warm rooms, nice sitting room, all types of Tea is available self service, it even has biscuits in the Tea room! It is quiet and peaceful, is one of the cheapest available establishments in the country, and the overall standard is excellent. This is as good as most three star hotels that I stay in, at between a half and one third of the price for a single room, (and I stay at hotels and B&B's about 150 nights a year through my work).

Going to a concert in Lismore Castle on our way back from Cork Airport to near Carrick we decided at short notice to spend the night locally rather than drive home late in the dark on icy roads . Found this via Booking.com and booked as we were waiting for our flight to Cork. Good price, friendly and helpful owners, ample breakfast. Just what we needed after a week of grandparenting. Drove safely home the next morning. Would happily stay again if the opportunity arose.

A lovely period house with comfortable rooms, lashings of hot water, well cooked food and stunning surroundings. The staff were very helpful and the prices great. Wifi is a bit slow but considering how remote this place is thats not unusual.

We were made very welcome by the owners who were very pleasant obliging and helpful. The room had everything we wanted and the beds and bedding were very comfortable. The hotel is in very pleasant surroundings. Although we didn't eat there we spoke to other guests who were highly satisfied with the food. The place is very clean and very comfortably furnished. We would definitely return next time we're in Ireland !!
