Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed@The Toby Jug for 2nights while walking the St Declan pilgrim path. Mary was very helpful in every way. She organised lifts for me to the starting point ( thanks Mick!) and brought my car forward to the end point in Ardmore. She didn't want or accept any extra money for this. It was Meitheal. I had most of my meals here and Mary gave me generous lunch packs. B&B; evening meals and lunch packs came in at a very reasonable rate. I was very happy staying here & will be back please God. And that will be my Meitheal. Stay well Mary; Andrew; Mick everyone else.

Fantastic stay at this place. Lovely welcoming hosts. Andrew is a lovely fella and can’t do enough for you. The locals in the bar were very friendly and great fun. Breakfast was amazing, cooked to order and all produce from local farms. The room was spotless with a really comfy bed and top class duvet. I never sleep in and had to drag myself out of bed at 10 o’clock to go for brekkie. It’s a yes from me and would I go again? Oh yes, can’t wait!

I was very unhappy with how I was treated after my four year old daughter needed to go to the toilet and one of the owners of this establishment took the side of a long term customer over common sense. At four years of age in a foreign country she is the same as any child of her age - terrified of going into a toilet alone. I’ve spoken to a lot of people since this incident and every single one think the treatment I got was absurd and undeserved.

We fished the Blackwater for a week and were happy to find a typical Irish welcoming b/b. Mary and Andrew made us feel at home. The local fishermen were very helpful even setting up our tackle for us!

I was in Cappoquin during November and stayed a few nights in the Toby Jug. The craic in the bar was excellent and the rooms were clean and comfortable. There is a real homely feel to the place and the owners really try to look after you. Breakfast was tasty and always cooked to order. Very impressive service, thanks again! M

We stayed here during Camphire horse trials in July and cannot think of anything other than positive things to say about our stay. Mary was fantastically helpful and went out of her way to look after us. Mary was not at all upset when turned up late looking for dinner - having tried to eat in a local hotel who refused to serve us because we arrived at 9.01pm and they stop serving at 9! Don't bother to go - its called the Richmond House Hotel - not at all friendly. Thank you Mary and Andrew!

Stayed with Mary and Andrew last night. Lovely friendly and welcoming people. We were on a cycling break and ate in their pub too. Great food , best of all real home made chips! With tired legs, it was lovely to just head upstairs to bed after eating. See their own website . Best to book directly with them and ignore the full notice you see on any external booking sites. Will be back again.

Lovely couple made us feel very welcome. Helped us by organising a lift to visit our friends in a village close by and even sent a taxi to pick us up. The food was good and plenty of it. They let us use their laundry and we always found a friendly welcome. The locals were all very welcoming as well and we enjoyed our time in Ireland in the Toby Jug. Would recommend their pub to anyone looking for a comfortable friendly stopover. Lots of history in the pub and the area.

While staying locally our party of 4 ate here at The Toby Jug twice. Andrew and the locals made us extremely welcome and the food and service were fab. My other half particularly loved the small mixed grill, I can't image what size the large one is! Thank you Mary for the patriotic veg too, nice touch! They couldn't do enough for us even though we were only there to eat. Andrew arranged a taxi back to our accommodation on the one rainy night we had, and made lots of suggestions for places to go etc. A real Irish welcome is waiting for you here.
