Our son married in Coulbawn Sat Sept 19th, we felt very comfortable and at home from the time we drove in and settled into the very cosy, well equipped, comfortable and spacious houses. The houses are kitted to a very high standard and nothing was a problem.
The weather helped add to a stress free day, the location on the lake is idylic, there was no pre wedding pressure as we simply walk down from our houses to the deck for the service , after the service back up for canapes and beverages, speeches with excellent sound and then walk over to the function room. The music for the wedding was so good and clear , it was provided by the Gazettes and they played before and after the service, indeed their amlification was used for the speeches
my son and his now wife were to marry in March but with Covid stopping the world in its tracks we were all so thrilled that they could marry, this added to the occasion. I think the guests felt very safe there as we were the only people in the complex and all the staff followed the guidelines.
The canapes, wedding food and breakfast were excellent, each and everyone comented on how tasty the wedding food was, I personally like well cooked beef,so I asked for further cooking and it was perfect, I really enjoyed the food, it was simple but cooked to perfection. Its not easy to have greens piping hot and tasty but they managed it .
Nenagh is approx 20 mins away for restaurants hair makeup etc.We had dinner in the Peppermill in Nenagh Fri and it was superb also.
Thank you for a memorable weekend.
If you need to get away from the stresses of everyday life this is the place to go, classy simplicity .

We were lucky enough to have our wedding in Coolbawn Quay this September and both my wife and I, together with all of our guests, have nothing but positives to say!

From Day 1 when we first visited Coolbawn the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and warm; especially Grainne, Dervla and Mags but the whole team are fantastic.

The setting is idyllic of course and we were blessed with wonderful weather which of course added to our weekend. Every cottage and room throughout the accommodation is furnished beautifully and kitted out to the highest of standards. The village feel creates a truly special atmosphere.

The food throughout our weekend was exceptional. We enjoyed a family BBQ and fantastic breakfasts but the wedding food itself was the most amazing. The canapés were beautifully presented and delicious and I can honestly say that the wedding banquet itself was better than any I have experienced.

In short, the venue is ideal for any occasion, the staff unwavering in their hospitality and warmth and everything else as close to perfect as you could possibly want. Thanks again to Coolbawn Quay for a wonderful wonderful day that we'll always remember!

We had our wedding in Coolbawn on the 31st July, just as restrictions for weddings were first lifting. Grainne, Mags and Michelle made the whole experience so straightforward. We had a lot of uncertainty about whether the wedding would go ahead, Grainne gave us a few alternate dates if needed and put no pressure on us to make a final decision until the restrictions were fully announced. The food by the 3 cooks was excellent, everything at the tasting was fantastic. We were so delighted with it we went to Poulaphouca house a few weeks later for Sunday lunch. Grainne was incredibly helpful with advising on how to run the day and how to map it out, she also made the room assignment for the accomodation very simple. We loved that the venue meant that our wedding felt like a small village of our family and friends over the weekend. At the drinks reception Mags made sure all our elderly relatives were seated and taken care of which we really appreciated. Senior staff were serving dinner which meant the whole thing flowed very well. We were able to use one of the houses to have a post wedding sing song and the staff even were thoughtful enough to leave sandwiches in the house for us. We made full use of the lake and some of our guests went kayaking on the second day which was a great way to blow off the cobwebs. All in all we thought Coolbawn was a brilliant mix of a beautiful venue, quality food and friendly local staff.

Great wedding venue - would not recommend for a weekend away

We stayed here just after things opened up post lockdown so we can appreciate some teething problems but at the same time spending almost €1k for a 2 night substandard stay is absurd.

The first night we had dinner in the bar and it was all over the place. Asked for bottle of wine, glasses arrived (wine sold out). Cutlery arriving 15 minutes after food etc.

There were plumbing issues that night and couldn’t use sink or toilet. There was banging in pipes that night which kept us awake. (This was swiftly fixed the next day).

Breakfast the next day was cold and poor quality. There was a fry or fruit (the fruit option being a big bowl of apples and bananas).

The next morning we saw that there was actually a wedding taking place (we weren’t told). We decided to go into nenagh but there isn’t much there. As the wedding party was having drinks outside our room we decided it was best to just go back to our room when we returned.

We waited until the wedding party moved to the marquee to come out and when we tried to order food and were told that the chef was catering to the wedding so there wouldn’t be any food.

We tried to order crisps but were they told you were sold out! In an isolated place such as this and to be told you can’t have anything to eat until the wedding ends was really annoying. The room shouldn’t have been advertised online if we were an afterthought to the wedding. We did eventually get a bowl of chips to share after asking about 5 times. Retreated to bed at about 10.30 and then as the wedding party was around us, we were woken multiple times later that night with the wedding party arriving back to their accommodation. We decided against having breakfast the next morning and stopped en route home instead.

Our total for 2 nights was about €922 including food and drinks and we really did feel ripped. We had 2 nights of interrupted sleep, there was nothing to do at the venue or surrounding it, and the food incident on the Saturday was bizarre.

I would not recommend here for a weekend getaway. I got an automated email asking for feedback on our trip to coolbawn - I sent the above and they didn’t even respond to me!

A group of golfers and 'Bon Viveurs' travelled to Coolbawn Quay for a midweek break. To say we were thrilled with the complete package would be an understatement. The accommodation, food and service was flawless and we were treated to a location of timeless beauty. There is a selection of accommodation including lodges, lakeside rooms and private suites all presented to a very high standard. A hidden gem. Thanks to the staff for their attention throughout our few days.

Myself and my family had the pleasure of staying in Coolbawn Quay over the June bank holiday weekend.

The cottage we stayed in had four bedroom’s which were beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean.
Crisp white bed linen and towels 👌

The views are just amazing 🤩 especially the sunset over
Lough Derg.
The staff went out of their way to
make sure we all enjoyed our stay.

Looking forward to our next visit.
Many thanks for a wonderful
weekend 😎 ⚓️

We stayed in a two bed lodge surrounded by other cottages for 4 days. Went wild swimming in the 2 min walk lake nearby every day. On wet days lit the fire played games and read books and on the warmer days travelled around the lake by car taking in the main eateries around (Paddy bar in Terry glass was lovely).

We also availed of booking t he casual dining option at the lodges and the food was well above normal standards. There are three eating options available on site.. Book the restaurant or casual dining next door or take away. Just when u arrive remember to book 24 hours in advance and not all options are available every day so check with reception. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful.. Couldn't have been nicer.

In terms of local attractions the best one for us was the Portumna gardens and castle ( it closes from 1 to 1.30). There is also an art gallery and coffee shop that added a nice end to trip.

Can we do it again are the five words that come to mind and are the five words we have been hearing from our guests since our wedding on NYE 2019.
We could not have chosen a better venue for our wedding, from the minute we booked up until the days after our wedding, the staff at Coolbawn Quay were absolutely amazing. From the service to the rooms to the staff everything was unbelievable. The staff are so unreal, I could write 10 pages on them. Gráinne,Terry,Siobhan and Dervla did such a great job at helping us organise and put up with me tormenting them with emails, Mags was our absolute saviour on the day, she was always there to help and did fantastic centre pieces for the day. She is a gem. Even the chef came out to chat to people and introduce herself which was lovely. The guests raved about the food, staff and just how beautiful the setting is. The atmosphere in Coolbawn is so relaxed and there’s a calming, homely, warm atmosphere there which i didn’t feel anywhere else. We wanted somewhere where all our guests could stay and mingle and get to know each other. I cannot recommend this venue more, there is not one thing that I can complain about. We are forever grateful to all those involved in our wedding at Coolbawn Quay, it truely was the best best day of our lives.

we attended a wedding here recently and were treated to a wonderful couple of days. The setting is idyllic right on the waters edge with a lovely dining room in the marquee. The bar and the outdoor area have beautiful views of the dock and lake and make for a great spot to while away the evening. The staff were second to none extremely helpful and accommodating and always with good humour. The only downside is the rooms, they are very small and uncomfortably warm (due to a permanently on boiler). They are badly in need of an upgrade, especially the showers!! The cottages themselves are comfortable but could do with a bit of a touch up too.

We stayed here for a wedding recently and couldn't recommend this venue more highly for either a wedding or a weekend getaway. It is in the most idyllic setting on the banks of Lough Derg. The staff were incredible, no detail is missed however small. They are warm and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us during our stay. They did their upmost to ensure every guest was individually looked after to such a high standard. Our one bedroom lodge was gorgeous. The bed was super comfy and the room was decorated beautifully. The food at the wedding was out of this world. It was fine dining standard. The wedding pavilion is stunning. The breakfast was also excellent quality with delicious fresh produce and a big selection. The grounds are immaculately kept. They even have a wonderful little pub onsite with open fires. You won't find a more picturesque setting in Ireland. We have been to many wedding venues but none even come close to Coolbawn Quay. We were sorry to leave after one night and wish we could have stayed longer! 5 stars doesn't do this place justice.
