Nestled on 1,000 acres of undulating Irish countryside, dotted with ancient woodland and glittering lakes, Castle Leslie Estate is one of the last great Irish Castle estates still in the hands of its founding family. Located in Co. Monaghan, Ireland, the Estate is only 80 minutes from Dublin and 60 minutes from Belfast. The Castle (21 individual guestrooms), at the heart of the Estate, offers authentic original interiors and old-style hospitality and is a complete respite from the world. The Lodge (50 guestrooms) is the social hub of the Estate and brings locals and guests together in an atmosphere of conviviality and comfort. The two-bedroom Old Stable Mews is the perfect spot for families and groups that want the convenience of hotel living combined with private luxury home rental. A host of activities are on offer including horse riding, pike fishing, boating, walking trails, archery, clay target shooting, hot air balloon rides, falconry and spa treatments.

This is a truly wonderful place to experience. What Castle Leslie does well is to make you very welcome. If you like horses, even better! The staff are plentiful, attentive and pleasant and those at reception are not sitting about filing their nails or on their phones! Let me commend in particular the superb five-course fine dining experience on a Sunday night (six if you count the little treat at the end). On arrival into the bedroom (called 'Grundy') a very nice touch was a little cake each to go with a cup of tea or coffee. In order to make things even better for other guests, we have identified three issues for improvement. First and foremost: staff in the bar need to be trained to pour a full pint in order to avoid any feeling of people being short-charged for the €7.80 a pint of the gorgeous Castle Leslie lager costs. We had to mention this point twice. Second, the tablet in the bedroom never came on despite us charging it repeatedly on the docking station. Third, my missus noticed that the blinds were marked in several places with a rust colour. That's her "hotel inspector" side coming through. In all, however, other than the bar issue these are not major issues and we found the price a very good one indeed for dinner, B&B and overnight accommodation (in a very comfortable bed) for two in a luxurious setting.

We attended Castle Leslie for a wedding and it was fabulous. Each room was so warm and welcoming at the hotel . We stayed at the lodge and the room was simply gorgeous, wished we stayed a bit longer to explore more around the estate . The breakfast at the Snaffle was the best meal I ever had , so fresh and tasty . The staff were so accommodating and friendly especially the trip we made between the Lodge and Hotel . Hope I will visit there again.

This was our third visit and it only gets better and better. Fabulous location- walks, equestrian centre, village nearby (with shop, cafe and chocolate shop) . Rooms in the Lodge are luxurious and peaceful. The new section now has a space with fridge / freezer containing water, fruit and ice for guests. This is a welcome addition. Both Snaffles restaurant and Conor's bar serve mouth watering food and drinks. Breakfast is amazing too. Staff are friendly and professional. The Castle is a short distance away and has beautiful rooms with views of the estate as well as a cosy bar. And the icing on the cake - when we were leaving a little note on the windscreen of our car let us know that someone had kindly cleaned the glass ahead of our journey home!! Thank you all. Hope to see you again soon.

Stayed in the Castle’s Green Room with my wife in January 2024.
Everything was exceptional from start to finish. Luxury in a relaxed castle environment with excellent food options in Snaffles Restaurant and Conor’s Bar. The spa options in the Victorian Treatment Rooms were excellent with outdoor hot tub and sauna before to relax.
Location is excellent with a large private estate with great walks around Glaslough Lake or just relax indoors in many of the grand rooms with afternoon tea.
Service was 5 star. The staff couldn’t do enough to help you. The food was excellent from breakfast to dinner with plenty of local sourced products.
If you want to be handy for dinner options and beauty treatments then stay in The Lodge but if you want that extra luxury then the Castle Rooms are great and a minibus transport service is available between the Castle and the Lodge.
The Green Room has fantastic views of Glaslough Lake and the Castle grounds but each room and accommodation options have different features so something different for each stay.
Overall the hotel, services, food, location and staff are all 5 star.

Lovely lodge, castle and fabulous grounds. The room was very nice, we particularly enjoyed reading the ornamental book spines on our shelves- fun references to the Leslie family and politics. Little niggles - I would have loved a fluffy dressing gown to wear when sitting outside in our private courtyard which was gorgeous - full of flowers. I also would have appreciated if the crisps and chocolates in our room had been complimentary- we did enjoy the little complimentary cupcakes thank you. I also would have liked decaf coffee bags in our room. The massage was great, otherwise the spa wasn’t terribly inviting or atmospheric. Our dinner in Snaffles restaurant was incredible- absolutely adored the food which was far better than I expected and at a reasonable cost. The senior waiting staff were also brilliant- really friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful. I accidentally left an item in my room which they posted to me immediately after I rang them on my return home. Wonderful to view the castle which feels warm and comfortable despite its age, the grounds are gorgeous and lovely to walk around. It’s great to see that the walled garden is being restored- it’s so big and massive work needed. Apart from the fishing trips which one could book- it would have been lovely to have just gone out on the lake for a little fun in a paddle boat - this is something they could do perhaps. The bar could have some board games there to encourage people to stay longer- a real fire would have been very nice even though it was summer. The working church on the grounds looks lovely, I would have liked to see inside. There were some books about the castle and family on sale, but I would have enjoyed reading a smaller book / fun facts/ ghost stories and legends. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return again- especially for a meal in Snaffles. Thank you very much

We were there at the w/end and what an awful time we had. We had some Spa treatments booked first and in fairness, they were fine, the highlight of the trip as it turned out (sadly).....
We went to Conors Bar the gastropub for dinner later and it was such a disappointment. My wife had the tempura veg and there was way too much batter, I had the duck wings, they were over cooked and chewy. Very poor start. But it got worse. We both had the Angus Rib eye , and both were completely undercooked to what we had asked for, and the meat was bang average and I'm being polite. We sent back most of the dinner! It was absolutely horrible. A chef that cant cook a steak right, that very worrying.
We then decided to go to the living room to relax. Except that there isn't one (we were in the Lodges). When we asked at reception we were told, oh there's none here you can either sit in reception or walk up to the main castle where there's a few rooms. We had no intention of going to get hats and coats on to go for the 5 minute walk up to the castle.... what hotel doesn't have a room to sit and relax in. We had to go back to our bedroom at 8.20, what's that all about???
In the morning we went for breakfast, my wife ordered the avocado on sourdough & I asked for the full Irish. Well she didn't like the flavour of the avocado which the waitress said had lots of herbs in (why would they need to do that?) and my brekkie was luke warm, dry and so poor I sent it back. We have never ever had to send the breakfasts back in any hotel we have been in, that's a disgrace if the kitchen cant get these staple dishes right!
So we decided to check out and when I voiced our disappointment the receptionist said she'd get a manager and to sit and wait. I duly did for 15 mins!!!!! I was furious at this point The manager when he eventually arrived, listened and said "we wont charge you for the food in both meals". Pathetic in a word.
When you're paying these prices you expect top class class service and we experienced the reverse. An absolute nightmare to be blunt.......

Castle Leslie is an extraordinary place. We were here for a family wedding and everything was perfect. I'd like to mention Jovita Rabiene from Reservations who dealt with all our pre-stay queries in a friendly, professional, and helpful manner. From the moment we arrived at check-in, we were welcomed by all the staff we met. Frank, the shuttle bus driver, and his colleague whose name I didn't get were absolute gentlemen in getting us from the Lodge to the Castle dry and safely on a very wet wedding day! The breakfast at the Lodge at Snaffles is superb, again served by the friendliest most helpful staff I have come across in my many hotel stays. The food range at breakfast was super and freshly prepared. The whole ambience at the Lodge is relaxed, warm, and welcoming. An early morning walk through the castle out to the lake beyond was magical. A truly special place. The Lodge rooms are spacious and well supplied with small luxury touches like tiny fresh cupcakes on the day of arrival, drinking water, tea and coffee. Fluffy robes in the bathroom and a great shower. I loved the way the rooms all had names rather than numbers! We will definitely return to Castle Leslie, and we were very glad the bride and groom chose this gorgeous place for their wedding.

In mid-October, my friend and I took a 6-day riding holiday at the Castle Leslie Estate. The weather was ideal. The lodging was comfortable. Our massages at the spa were fabulous. The food was good, with a nice variety of more upscale options in Snaffles and more basic grill-type foods at Conor’s Pub (both within the Lodge). I loved the effort to source foods locally; the Irish wheaten bread with local strawberry jam became a staple of my mornings! And it was nice that you could walk out the entrance gate straight into the village, where we visited both pubs, ate at the local grocery/cafe/gelato shop and took walks. But our main reason for staying at Castle Leslie was the equestrian program – and it absolutely lived up to our (high) expectations! What a great staff – from the friendly, hard-working barn crew who kept the yard spotless to the ride leaders and instructors (Gemma, Jo, Steven, Orla, Siorse) who helped us spruce up some skills and build confidence without ever forgetting we were all there to have fun. The horses were fit and clearly well cared for. And they were awesome at their jobs, whether we were taking estate (trail) rides through the gorgeous grounds, taking indoor lessons, or jumping cross-country. We had 10 rides over 6 days; I rode 5 horses (the lovely Willow & gentle giant Russel, plus Blueberry, Arnie, and Tana) & my friend rode 9 (including the absolutely adorable Henry, with his cute mustache!). (A fun aspect was getting to choose our favorite horse to ride on the last day.) I’m usually ready to go home by the end of a vacation, but this time I was literally sad to leave. I hope to be back!!

An outstanding experience only equaled by the terrific service from the staff. Accommodations were comfortable, as stayed in the Stable Mews apartment for a family wedding at the castle. The food was delicious and unique whether breakfast in The Lodge or the reception we attended. The grounds are spectacular to walk and take in nature to escape and relax. We did not take advantage of their amenities (horse back riding, archery, falconry or row boat on the lake…) but could tell these are all well maintained and looked after. Bottom line the staff was exceptional and very customer service driven.

Absolutely delightful afternoon tea in the castle. The staff are incredibly attentive, the food superb, for a large building it was toasty warm and the interiors are magnificent. At $33.00 per head, which includes unlimited teas/coffees, this is great value. There’s a side entrance for anyone disabled, a small lift to bypass a few steps and staff that are eager to help. Absolutely blown away by how good the visit was. Any food you don’t eat is put into castle leslie boxes so you can take it home. What’s not to like.

I don’t believe so. The leisure facilities appear to be limited to treatments and a hot tub. Unless you are into equestrian, then facilities are in abundance.
Hi, when I was there, yes. But as per the lifting of Covid restrictions as of this coming Monday, the 26th of July, I would imagine that you don't have to be a resident to dine at Castle Leslie.
There is no transport which will get you there directly, public transport to Monaghan town and taxi from there, it is approximately 7 km from the town of Monaghan
There are more places to choose from in the Glaslough area.
