2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Nestled on 1,000 acres of undulating Irish countryside, dotted with ancient woodland and glittering lakes, Castle Leslie Estate is one of the last great Irish Castle estates still in the hands of its founding family. Located in Co. Monaghan, Ireland, the Estate is only 80 minutes from Dublin and 60 minutes from Belfast. The Castle (21 individual guestrooms), at the heart of the Estate, offers authentic original interiors and old-style hospitality and is a complete respite from the world. The Lodge (50 guestrooms) is the social hub of the Estate and brings locals and guests together in an atmosphere of conviviality and comfort. The two-bedroom Old Stable Mews is the perfect spot for families and groups that want the convenience of hotel living combined with private luxury home rental. A host of activities are on offer including horse riding, pike fishing, boating, walking trails, archery, clay target shooting, hot air balloon rides, falconry and spa treatments.

This is a firm favourite as a getaway for our family.. we have just stayed again on a girls trip. As we had such an interest in the horses on previous stays we were accommodated with gorgeous interconnecting rooms overlooking the stables. The staff are terribly friendly and accommodating , with a great sense of humour also! There was a yummy welcome drink brought to us upon arrival, thank you! Over our visits we have been to the Spa for amazing treatments ans horse riding through the beautiful grounds. Morning walks by the lake are a must. The castle is just incredible and a great place to relax. Looking forward to our return soon ! :)

Everything about staying in Castle Leslie is authentic and wonderful. If you’re a history buff, the Leslie family story is incredible. If you’re a nature lover, the 1000 acre estate is a treat. If you’re an equestrian, this is a 5-star stable. If you’re a foodie, Snaffles restaurant is world class. If you’re a wannabe Lord of the manor, the Castle is sublime. If you (like us) are a family with a dog, the self catering mews are perfect. This is truly the hotel experience that suits everyone. It’s perfect (but don’t tell anyone!)

We booked afternoon tea here for friends whilst staying in a nearby hotel. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds are amazing , the afternoon tea was delicious and everything on it you would expect to get, we were in the conservatory which lacked atmosphere and felt a bit isolated but it was a quiet day with not many other guests.

Got off to a tense start as the room in the Lodge wasn’t ready at 4pm! I must say 4pm is a very late check in time, reducing the time available for a one night stay in an expensive room, but for the room not to be ready until 4.30pm is unacceptable. Also, there was limited Reception area to sit in. That said, things picked up when we got into the room. Facilities in the warm, comfortable ground floor room, including a little private terrace, were fabulous. I loved the spacious bathroom, including the bath with great hot water;all other room features were perfect. Dinner and breakfast in Snaffles were great, with delicious food and friendly, efficient service. Went out cycling the next morning in the grounds of the estate and along a quiet road towards Caledon; really enjoyed it. Perhaps the hotel should consider renting bikes as an added extra. Overall, a lovely stay, thankyou.
