This is a great family hotel, very close to Tayto Park and Dublin Zoo so its a great base for exploring with kids. The pool is a great facility too. The food was excellent, much better than we expected as its so family orientated. I marked it down because it said on the website when booking there was family clubs/activities on during peak season and we arrived 3rd July this year but there was only a family friendly small disco each night at 8.30pm which was very late for our 5 year old and that was it. They did have a craft club on one night for 2 hours but it was an additional fee which we didn't want to pay because we weren't sure if our son would stay on his own, this was a bit disappointing. Plus for the size of the hotel they have a very small playpark outside which again was disappointing, really only for toddlers for kids between 5-9yrs old maybe. Also my husband complained to the Duty Manager twice about no handsoap in the main mens toilets over 2 days and they still weren't filled or had run out again but not kept on top off, with covid this was worrying because of the amount of guests staying in the hotel which was disappointing. Also we could not find out how to reduce the temperature in the room, they were absolutely boiling all the time, day and night.
Overall it was still a great stay due to convenience, pool and food just hoping we haven't caught covid after being so careful up until now and not getting it.

This hotel has a convenient setting by the M2 when travelling by car, with ample parking and a nice building awaits you on arrival. The staff are very helpful and capable. However, the hotel itself has seen better days in parts. Perhaps this is a phenomenon of the pandemic and perhaps being moth balled for months, I don't know. Aspects of the hotel are in need of some basic repair, and other parts in need of refurbishment. The changing rooms for the pool are pretty disgusting to be honest and the whole pool area feels very grotty and un cared for. Simple maintenance and cleaning would make a huge difference and it's hard to understand why the hotel owners haven't invested even a modest amount in the pool facilities. A small effort would go along way. But again to be fair, perhaps this is resulting from the uncertainty around the trajectory of the pandemic, let's hope so. The food was pretty good, but over priced for what it was. The evening crowd in the bar and restaurant when we stayed were hard to take, somewhat obnoxious and edgy. Now I do like a rowdy bar myself, but this was different, the staff seemed uneasy and under pressure dealing with them. Alot of "snorting" activity coming from the cublicles in the men's toilets, which isn't great for a family type hotel. As a result the noise in the restaurant was deafening which made the restaurant feel like a college canteen at lunchtime. Some consideration to isolating the bar from the restaurant would go along way. Couldn't fault the breakfast. Would we return? Perhaps, I think we were unlucky with the crowd, seemed an anomaly? But would not return for sometime until they sort out the pool area etc. Oh and the room temp never dipped below 24 degrees, the a/c just wouldn't play ball despite getting staff to look at it.

Hi HungryCrow, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. We are in the process of updating areas of the hotel and our leisure facilities are next on the list, it is unfortuante that there is a back log on supplies and the trades being in such high demand. We do hope to have this recitified as soon as possible. I do apologise regarding the atmsophere you felt was present in the bar, this will be brought to the attention of our General and Deputy Manger as we are a very family orientated hotel and normally this would not be the case. I do wish to thank you for taking the time to list some of the positve's from your stay with us. All feedback is welcomed as it can ensure we have the time to reflect and implement change for the best service to our guest's possible. I do hope we can welcome you back and hopefully improve of your most recent expereince. Kind regards, The Team - Pillo Hotel Ashbourne

We stayed at the Pillo Hotel as a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids). I booked directly with the hotel and received an excellent rate. It is very easy to find and is only 10 minutes from Tayto Park. Check in was very efficient and the lady at reception was very pleasant and welcoming. Our room was located on the 4th floor and was huge! Definitely the largest family room that we have stayed and had 2 double beds and a single bed. It was spotlessly clean and the aircon was very welcome on such a warm evening. We had dinner in the restaurant and the service was very friendly and efficient. The food was also top class. I came back a few hours later and had no issue in getting a table in the bar to watch the match. There are plenty of TVs in the bar and all of them are very well located. Breakfast the next morning was also really good and there was an excellent selection to choose from. The chef serving the hot breakfast was brilliant and organised pancakes with chocolate sauce for the kids which made their day! After a short visit to the onsite playground we checked out but will definitely return to this Hotel. It ticks all of the boxes. Its location and close proximity to the M50 will make this hotel our base whenever we visit Dublin or Tayto Park in the future.
Well done guys. Keep up the great work!

After being closed for over 15 months, it was huge effort from the team to re-open safely and delighted to learn that you found our staff pleasant, welcoming, friendly and efficient. We are lucky to have a generous selection of family rooms which I can see you enjoyed. We do pride ourselves on the food we serve and it was great to read that you found it top class and your kids enjoyed the pancakes with chocolate sauce - they are a very popular choice! Look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

We stayed for two nights 2 adults and 2 children, the package was 2 nights b&b and one evening meal. Lovely hotel from the outside but a very different story inside. The dinner with the package was had on day 1 and there was some mix up in the kitchen. One male member of staff serving us was quite rude. The girls serving us could not do enough for us. On day 2 when we arrived back at the hotel from Tayto Park the room had not been cleaned. No fresh towels or toilet paper wasn't refilled. When I queried this with reception I was advised that we would have to request the room to be cleaned as due to covid they didn't want to risk cross contamination which we were not advised of at any stage. I requested the room to be cleaned there and then and all that was done was the towels and toilet paper had been replaced. We had dinner in the bar on the second night and service was absolutely appalling. My husband ordered soup and when he received this he had to request butter for his bread which he is still waiting for. When the waiter brought down the main course it was lobbed on the table, he walked away without providing us with any cutlery this had to be requested from another member of staff. The public areas of the hotel were very dirty and no cleaning staff in sight. Stained carpets, dirty armchairs and ripped cushions. The leisure centre staff were very helpful and polite but boxes provided for your personal belongings were not very hygienic. My sister was also staying at the hotel with her family
which includes a small child and when she reported her air conditioning wasn't working she was given a fan!!!! I would not recommend staying at this hotel!!

We stayed here recently as we were going to tayto park, the hotel itself looks lovely & the lobby nice etc but the rooms tell a different story. Our room was barely cleaned, so dusty, our 2 year old found bits of a milkybar under one of the beds & nearly ate it only for my husband caught her in time, there was an opened bottle of water under another bed then, making me think that housekeeping obviously doesn’t look or clean under the beds. My sister & husband were staying with their kids too & found young boys jocks under their bed.. 🤢 Our bed was so uncomfortable, the springs were sticking up so I’d to sleep in the middle of the bed & even at that it was awful, the pillows are old & flat, like something you’d expect at a hostel. The bedrooms need huge improvements & housekeeping also, couldn’t wait to get out of there, especially in these covid times. There was zero sanitisation, the hse wouldn’t be happy to see how dirty the rooms are.

The breakfast is chaotic as you’ve to give your room
number & wait to be called & there’s people standing around not knowing who’s given their number & who’s queuing, you go up to get served then & then wait for toast, by the time you get your toast the breakfast is cold. It’s a cheap product breakfast, not tasty at all, but in fairness the chef is lovely & helpful it’s not his fault. There’s no sign of a manager around at breakfast or anyone checking to see if you need anything etc, we had to find someone to ask them for a latte & cappuccino & we had to pay €6.50 for them, never have i ever paid for those kind of coffees with breakfast included.

Overall the only good thing about this hotel is the proximity to tayto park & the staff are nice. It needs to be managed a whole lot better & housekeeping needs a serious looking at. I couldn’t recommend it & wouldn’t stay again..

We are just back from a stay at the Pillo Hotel, booked two family rooms and tayto park tickets. Collected tickets for tayto park the morning of out stay and was very quick and easy. Came back later that day to check in and went to out rooms, rooms were fairly spacious, not great the air xon didn't work but they left a fan for the room so wasn't too bad, toothpaste on the outside of the sink bowl, obviously not cleaned properly but that was about it regarding cleanliness. Shower was ok, hardly any pressure and was tricky to get working. Half a bottle of Hand/Hair and body wash wasnt great from a 4 star hotel to be honest. Absolutely not impressed in the slightest with the travel cots requested for both rooms, one had a big hole in the netting part at the side, no mattress provided with either of them just a hard board underneath a sheet and a towel left in the cot for them to lie on? Rang down to reception to ask for a mattress and they sent up another sheet that we told them it wasnt sufficient, then sent up a single duvet for my daughter to sleep on, not impressed, she would have been sweltering sleeping on a big duvet with her own blanket over her. She was so uncomfortable all night and kept waking up crying. We had food and drinks in the Bar, food was only ok, my son had a burger and the bun was rock hard on the edges, he didn't eat it, 10e for a strawberry daiquiri that was just made from the slushy machine so it just tasted like water. Pornstar martinis were lovely though.Breakfast was OK, tea not the best. Booked the pool for the 45 min slot, changing rooms were awful, no family changing areas, no lockers working so were given a plastic box to store our things in, floors in the changing rooms so dangerous, pools of water everywhere, in my opinion it needs cleaning more regularly to avoid big pools of water like that..my daughter slipped a few times. Kids pool extremely small, Rust on the hand bars and mould on the side walls of the pool just put us off completely. I hate giving bad reviews and felt like there isn't much good I can say about the stay to be quiet honest. Only good thing is location for how close it was to tayto park. I wouldn't stay here again if I'm being honest.

Having stayed here before and thoroughly enjoyed it, booking again seemed like a no brainier….
As usual my wife contacted the hotel in advance to ensure they could cater for our sons allergies and received positive feedback. The reality was so different. Breakfast, my son ended up in the room eating cereal we had brought with us. Zero effort was put into catering for him and we were simply told the buffet breakfast had all food in close quarters and as such could not be guaranteed allergy safe. The member of staff covering front of house was an absolute joke. Customer service is not in his repertoire of skills. He spent most of the time scowling and stomping around like he did not want to be there.
Dinner was included in the package, seemingly provided you don’t have any allergies. Mixed messages and general confusion meant we had Zero confidence the staff knew anything about the seriousness of food allergies. One (and only) positive note, the dinner staff were all very pleasant. Again, my son ended up eating dinner in the room. Dinner being a packet of noodles and sauce we brought as a just in case. When booking we were told the chips are cooked in a separate fryer, not the case, or maybe it is, nobody had a clue.
The allergens listed on the menu also proved to be inaccurate, be aware!
Without a serious training program and the odd personality transplant, this hotel is doomed to fail which is a real shame. Location and amenities provide real potential but this potential will not be achieved with the customer service currently being provided. We sent an email after our stay laying out the various issues we experienced, to which we received ZERO response.
My advice to anyone (particularly with allergies), considering staying here, save yourself the disappointment and stay somewhere with caring attentive staff.
I have scored this one star out of five because Zero was not an option.

Hello Andi C, Thank-you for your comments and feedback. Having a young child myself with allergies, we do treat these very seriously, so was disappointed to read your comments above. I would like to speak with you directly regarding your experience and you can reach me on agreenslade@pillohotelashbourne.com Unfortunately, I am unable to reach out to you directly as all Trip Advisor reviews are anonymous. Thank-you however for acknowledging our staff were 'all very pleasant'. We are very proud of our hard working team with what has been a very testing time in the hospitality industry. Last week myself and a friend stayed for 1 night on a dinner B&B rate in a twin room. The bedroom was spacious and clean but my friends bed was broken and really uncomfortable for her. The shower was basic with poor pressure and none of the usual mini toiletries you’d expect to find in a hotel bathroom. We used the pool which was really filthy. Black mould and green algae growing everywhere, long brown stains coming down the walls, extremely run down looking. It was really, really disgusting. We were shocked at how bad the food was also. My chicken wings came out without any sauce. It seems they forgot to coat them so they were really dry and flavourless. I had a burger for main which was fine, basic and nothing special but it tasted nice. My friend ordered salad to start but couldn’t eat it. It was swimming in balsamic vinegar so the salad was really soggy, disgusting and bitter. Unfortunately her main wasn’t any better, she ordered the hake which was awful. It was swimming in a green sauce sitting on a hard rubbery fish cake thing. She sent it back. She was offered to choose an alternative main but she declined based off the how awful the starter and her main was. I have to say we are never fussy with food we’d normally eat anything half decent put in front of us but her meal was so bad she couldn’t stomach it. We ended up driving to SuperValu nearby to get some treats to fill up on. (The hotel has vending machines in some hallways stocked with crisps and chocolate but none we tried using worked). Breakfast was a little better. The hot food was basic buffet style. I usually love going for the meats and cheeses before getting some hot breakfast but I was really disappointed to find only a few slices of packet ham and slices of processed cheddar cheese - that was it ! It wasn’t that all the other meats and cheeses were eaten by other guests, that was just the extent of what was put out for guests ! There was a huge pile of plain croissants but that was it, no selection of nice pastries thats usually standard in 4 star hotels. No selection of breads, just a brown and white slice pan. Unfortunately it seems that little or no maintenance has been done to the hotel in a very significant time and standard of food was awful. The night stay cost us just over €300 which was such a waste of money for what we got. I have to say though that the staff were very lovely and efficient even though it was busy and they were ran off their feet. We definitely won’t be returning anytime soon and would suggest to anyone thinking of staying - don’t, go elsewhere !!

Just back from our annual overnight stay at Pillo hotel and another great stay. We go as a family of 5 with 3 children under 10, each year and always book a one night stay with emerald park tickets included as it works out the best value for us. This allows us to travel down at our leisure, have dinner and a relaxing evening before getting an early start to hit the park the next day.
This years’ trip was excellent as we have found it to be every year. The hotel is located close to emerald park, maybe a 5 min drive, so it is really handy location wise. The family rooms vary depending on availability when you book, sometimes it can be smaller rooms, still able to sleep 5 but without a lot of extra space, and other times it can be the more spacious family rooms which can easily accommodate 5 and provide extra space. The more spacious rooms are naturally better when travelling with children but anytime we have stayed, whichever room type we have been in, has been comfortable and clean. Reception staff are always really helpful and although the hotel is always busy, they take the time to make sure you have everything you need.
The Time restaurant on site is a lovely restaurant with friendly staff and a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The menu had just recently been changed and there were some other changes to the restaurant such as the open view of the kitchen which was a nice change. We had a 3 course family meal and it was some of the nicest food I have eaten out. The evening menu had something for everyone, lots of choice for adults and children and the quality of the food was amazing. Big thanks to the waiting staff including Aaron, Ciara, Jessica, Evie and Oxana (hope I haven’t left anyone out!) for such wonderful service and going out of their way to make sure we had a lovely evening. They were busy and flat out working but nothing was too much trouble. We didn’t make it to the swimming pool on this visit but this is also a great part of the hotel and the kids love it.
We will be back next summer again and will look forward to it knowing this is a consistently good hotel and has everything we need for a family getaway!

Hello Quest05478190473, Thank-you for taking the time to leave a review after your most recent stay with us. We do have a high number of repeat guests who we see year after year which is a great testament to the team we have here at the hotel. There were a few changes made from last year, delighted to learn that you enjoyed the open kitchen we now have. Our location to Emerald Park is a huge asset and with the further developments they have for 2024, hopefully we will see you return then. I will personally pass on your comments to Aaron, Ciara, Jessica, Evie and Oxana and hopefully we will see you next year. Thank-you again for taking the time to leave such a thorough review

Nice Hotel, great access for motorways.
My self and my partner stay here weekly for his business trips. The hotel had great parking and lovely reception area.

They allow us to get an early check in as I bring our small baby and I'm able to have access to the room while Ken attends his meetings with clents.

The rooms are big and spacious and very modern and the cleaners were more than happy to lend us a travel cot on our baby as I had forgotten ours on the last trip.

There is an amazing gym here which I used before baby was born, and a lovely pool where I was able to bring baby for her first swim.

The only negative was the lack of vegitarian and vegan options for food, in fact there is nothing, so have to make a meal up through the sides or buy in from a takeaway. I did chat with restaurant manager last week who said he will look into adding these options very soon.

Overall great spot. We'll be back soon.

Dear Carla4Kensey, I am delighted to read your review of our hotel. I have passed it along to all our team members as I know they will enjoy reading it too. I'm disappointed to read that you found dining in the hotel difficult, I will speak to our head chef and restaurant manager about this and we will address this as a matter of urgency. Thank you for taking the time to post your review and I hope that we can welcome you and your family back to the hotel very soon. Kind Regards, Laura

Hi Sharon. I'm sure they would have no problem. They're really nice there and very helpful. But give them a bell just in case it's busy with the feis and they try to keep it for members only.
