Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The front desk woman was very friendly. The hotel overall needs a refurbish. It is old and not the cleanest. The beds were really comfortable and I liked that we could open our window to get some fresh air. The walls are pretty thin so you can hear the conversations of your neighbours. We stayed here for one night before flying home. Overall, it was okay but expensive for what you get.

My boyfriend’s friend had a birthday so he and I stayed here for the night. The hotel was grand. Nothing special. Could do with being updated. Positive: Comfy bed. Friendly staff Windows open properly Free parking Negative: Super warm and couldn’t discover a way to change the heat The bathroom has plastic on the flooring to stop water getting to the walls but it’s old and grubby Behind the shower door wasn’t cleaned (the cleaner would have to get into the shower and close the door to clean that area which is awkward and it’s evident they don’t do that. The bar advertised cocktails. I ordered one. They said no they weren’t doing them anymore and about five minutes later brought one out to someone whose birthday it was. They seemed to know him.

Nice outside, large car park at rear. Inside needs a refurb and is far too expensive for such basic amenities. We were given a disabled room on the second floor! (we are not disabled by the way) and the lift was out of order for the whole weekend - so not sure how we would have got to the room had we been disabled?! Rooms basic and in need of a good deep clean. Shower had mould all around and curtain was filthy. "toiletries in room" were the wall mounted - shower gel/hand wash/shampoo - all in one type which were very difficult to squeeze anything out of. My towel had make up on it . Beds appeared to be clean and were quite comfy. Food was good and breakfasts were huge however these were served in the bar area which was dark, and again in need of a good clean. Breakfast is not included. Staff were friendly and efficient and I agree with other reviewer in that the glasses in the bar were filthy. There were two very noisy events being held whilst we were there and the "residents bar" is non existent. Comprising of comfy sofas and chairs along with lamps with HUGE cobwebs trailing from them - filthy windows - a piano with no one to play it - a bar that used to be a bar - completely empty, apart from a few storage boxes and no TV or piped music. The hotel itself is well situated on a main road with good bus routes, a Tesco and Aldi within walking distance and a couple of other bars/pubs and shops along the road. If this was refurbed and clean it would be a very nice hotel indeed. The nice façade and flowers, umbrellas outside etc don't march what's inside.

The owner of the hotel is openly discriminating people by their nationality. He banned the concert in commemoration of the artist who passed away earlier this year, who lived in Germany for the past 20 years, but happened to have Russian passport. That is outrageous. The company who organised the event should sue him. Discrimination by nationality is against the law in Ireland.

We stayed at Nuton Hall Ashbourne from the 7th to the 9th September. What a place everything was so nice and homely the only problem was the shower it was very small to get into I’m a size 22 and I struggled anyone bigger would not fit in. But that put aside please book lots of places to visit very quite pubs very welcoming.

I never ate here because I felt there is no way I could eat anything cooked from here , the staff were fine I avoided any conversation but were helpful when I needed an issue sorted . This place had beds that you can sleep in and they are clean . I would never ever stay here again unless everywhere else in Ashbourne burned down . Hotel should be demolished, it’s older than pyramids & costs just as much as the ritz to stay here . If your standards for hotels are low then you’ll be delighted with this place it’s the most lowball place I’ve stayed in , in years . If this place was cheap I’d actually give it 5 stars because you get what you pay for and I would not expect a lot for my money , but they charge top dollar for a room so I’m not going back ever ………….

Shabby dirty and very loud for £160 euro room only a night. Checked in and could hardly hear the receptionist for the music in the function room. Asked if a wedding, turns out a funeral. Asked when it ended told 8.00pm. Came back at 9.30 still going on. Bedroom was just 3 star, bathroom dirty with stains in the shower. Hairs in the sink. Just not clean. Breakfast was in the bar, whilst everything you touched was sticky. The breakfast was good. The lady serving us was attentive and excellent.

WE arranged a surprise birthday in the large function room. Maria, David and staff at Ashbourne House Hotel are fantastic. The food was delicious. We were so well looked after, The staff are exceptional. Would definitely use the venue again.

Stay here for two nights last weekend. The food was lovely every time we had it. Rooms where abit dated but very big and extremely clean. The downside was the residents bar… there wasn’t one. I asked after last order if I could get a pint since I was staying here and was told not till the bar is empty. The place was still jammed. Also there was English gypsies going around asking what peoples rooms numbers were in the car park. The smoking area should be open to guests 24/7 to avoid such hassle.

Was staying at the hotel to attend a friends birthday in Ashbourne. Original booked two rooms but cancelled one few days before I arrived but paid for other room in advance of arriving. People staying in the room with me arrived about 9pm and were given a room key. When I arrived about 12:30am I was given a key to a different room. Only when we arrived back about 3am did we realise we had two rooms. When trying to return one of the rooms, the night Manager was abusive and more a less accused me of trying to take a second room I hadn't paid for. At 9:30am the next morning there was banging on my door. When I went down to complain to the on Duty Manager I was told, "it's not our staff", "booking two rooms and then cancelling one is all very confusing" and "check out is 12pm". I've stayed in hotels all over Ireland for business and leisure and this has been the worse experience. I would not recommend this hotel and will never return to it.
