Detailed Reviews
Stayed at this fabulous establishment on Good Friday, from arrival to check out we were well looked after. We arrived at roughly 2pm and the whole process was seamless as the hotel was well staffed in all areas and there was still a great selection of fresh food left in the carvery at that time and the portion size was very generous too, a good feed for great value. Our room was tastefully decorated and 10/10 for cleanliness there wasn't a spec of dust or a thing out of place, the view from the room was excellent I was able to trainspot for the evening before heading out, I had the best night's sleep I've had in years so need to get in contact with accommodation to see where the mattresses are sourced from as it was like sleeping on a cloud. The staff ensured that Prosecco was organised for our room and I thought this was such a lovely touch, it definitely didn't go unnoticed or unopened. The breakfast service was second to none Susan and all her staff are really just out on their own and build a lovely rapport with guests, the continental breakfast was well stocked, the hot food was ordered from the table which ensured it was fresh and it made all the difference, all hotels should do this. We went and used the leisure centre, the changing facilities were spotless and modern and so was the swimming pool itself. The hotel itself is in an ideal location, it's walking distance to all the local pubs and shops which also have a great atmosphere. This hotel would make the perfect venue for any function and definitely somewhere we'd consider getting married. We are keeping the best thing until last, the staff are a fantastic asset to the hotel, they made my experience so pleasant that we literally didn't want to leave, other hotels could use the Midlands Park Hotel as an example of how a hotel should operate!

Very welcoming hotel from the moment we walked in the door. We had booked the Glenbarrow Suite for the night (New Years Eve). The suite was absolutely perfect with a comfy bed amazing shower and bath comfy robes and slippers a fridge a safe and air conditioning and a lot more there was also a water fountain outside our door that we could use at any time to refill our water jug! We had rang to book a table in the bar for as late as possible to bring in the the new year even though it was 9:30pm everything was perfect the waiter was absolutely brilliant he was very kind and friendly (unfortunately didn’t get his name) and constantly checking up throughout the evening the food was amazing and the cocktails were delicious also not expensive for 3 courses and a few drinks! Breakfast was great it’s buffet but hot food is ordered off a menu it had everything!
Amazing staff amazing hotel and an amazing night definitely will be back again.
Thank you for making our New Year’s Eve special

We stayed here last night under the Suite Treats package in the Couples Deluxe Room. While the overall experience had its highlights, there were several inconsistencies with the package details that left us a bit disappointed.
Upon check-in, I inquired about ordering breakfast in bed for the following morning and was told it would cost €6 per person. When I asked if it was included in the package, I was informed it wasn't. However, after re-reading the package details and calling reception from our room, a different receptionist apologised and confirmed that it actually was included.
The package also stated that a treat would be left in the room, but there was nothing when we arrived. My wife called reception, she acknowledged the issue and stated “the fact you had to call down for this isn’t good enough”.
On a positive note, the four-course meal included in the package was excellent. The waitress was attentive, the food was beautifully presented, and we couldn’t fault it.
Unfortunately, breakfast was another issue. We filled out the breakfast-in-bed request card for 10:00-10:30 AM, but by 10:45, we had to call reception to follow up. When it finally arrived, some items were missing, and the staff member delivering it had a card machine, again asking for payment despite it being included in the package.
Aside from these issues, the room itself was fantastic, beautifully designed with thoughtful finishing touches. The jacuzzi bath was a highlight, making for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Overall, while the hotel and amenities were lovely, the inconsistencies in package inclusions and the need to repeatedly follow up with reception took away from the experience. Disappointing for the price.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the Couples Deluxe Room and the four-course meal, as well as the relaxing jacuzzi bath. However, I’m truly sorry to hear that there were inconsistencies with your Suite Treats package, and I understand your frustration with having to follow up multiple times to ensure the details were honoured. This is certainly not the standard of service we aim to provide, and I truly appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention. I will personally review your comments with the team to ensure that our communication and service are improved for future guests. I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future, and provide a more seamless experience that reflects the high standards we strive for. We booked the over 50’s Golden Years package and on arrival had to ask to change room as view from window was of flat roof with air conditioning vents which were very noisy. We then ventured down for a swim only to find there were renovations in place with no changing facilities, showers or toilets, only 3 makeshift cubicles for everyone to use and were told to leave our possessions on sun beds while swimming. On the plus side the young lads on duty at the pool were very polite and friendly. There was no mention of renovations on website before we booked. Had to get dressed and head back to room for shower. Shower in room was blocked and so standing in about 2 inches of water while showering. Had to ask reception to send up hairdryer, which was supposed to be in room. Took about 20 minutes before housekeeping arrived with it so hair was nearly dry. We wouldn’t normally complain but felt a 4 star hotel advertising a luxurious break, which we were looking forward to, had to be made aware that we would not feel comfortable going for a swim the next day. Assistant Manager Katie was very nice and pleasant to us and compensated us fairly. We had several conversations with her over our stay and she was most helpful with her advice of what to do and where to go in Portlaoise town. The staff in the Charter bar in hotel were very efficient and friendly especially Kiera who any employer would be lucky to have. We would return despite all the failings as it is a lovely hotel in the heart of Portlaoise, convenient to the town which we found very clean and a credit to the council and Tidy Towns.

Stayed here on Sunday night for our first wedding anniversary. The hotel looked fab when we entered the lobby, very modern! We arrived to check in (we were early) , our room wasn’t ready which was fine. We done all the paperwork at the desk, the girl at reception couldn’t take payments with a One4all card. We eventually got it sorted when I had to help her swipe the card. There was no mention of breakfast timings, information on the hotel at this stage. I mentioned we had a booking in a spa and asked where it was and she advised us on the location. I asked was there a luggage room as the room wasn’t ready, again she pointed over to glass doors in the lobby , I said I take it it’s through them doors then? I also told her we had a booking for the bar this evening and asked where is it, again she pointed in a direction. We headed down to the spa, small but nice. Our room was ready after the spa, we headed back to reception to collect the keys, still no mention of breakfast timings, no information on the hotel at all. Just the handed the keys and told it’s on the 2nd floor tap the key at the lifts.
Headed to the room which was small and dark. There was a double and single bed in the room and very little daylight , a small window with no view. It sounded like we were at the back of train tracks. When we were in the room about 15 minutes a member of the accommodation team just walked in, no knock literally let himself in, he had the wrong room.
We decided to go down to the pool, nice changing rooms and pool facilities.
We went to the bar for dinner, food was delish and the service was great.
We headed back up to our room and fell asleep only to be woken at 12 by the room next door, they were having an argument and the TV was blaring. This went on until after 3:30am! Tried to knock into the room ourselves, they didn’t answer the door. Couldn’t figure out how to work the phone in the room so we sent an email on to see if someone could knock to even ask them to lower the TV. Doesn’t look like it was done. Surely there are security walks throughout the night and this noise would have been heard? When we tried to knock it could clearly be heard from the corridor!
We got up early and checked out, both knackered and headed back home to Dublin.
What was meant to be a nice relaxing break to mark a special occasion was quite the opposite.
It’s a shame we didn’t have a great experience as we actually had our wedding venue hotel booked for our first anniversary stay and cancelled it on recommendations of friends who spoke highly of the hotel and we had never been down before.
We got a great deal when we booked as we booked Jan sale, you get what you pay for room wise. Unfortunately, we wont be back anytime soon.

Hotel exterior and interior is beautiful, stands out from all other properties in Portlaoise hence why I decided to book the hotel.
Check in was just ok. Not much engagement from receptionist, no explaining parking situation where nothing was told about hotel rate for it, no familiarisation with the hotel, offer help with bags, no concierge.
Room was clean and comfortable.
Unfortunately there was no air-con in the room, opening the window through the night to have air was a horrible idea as train station was just behind the hotel and it’s very loud. Sleep was broken and felt exhausted once awake.
Breakfast was ok, buffet was good with loads of options.
Ordered full Irish which came with only 1 fried egg that was hard, and no beans.
Waffle in menu described with maple syrup, it came on its own and no syrup around the place
Check out was easy.
Hotel has great potential with the location and looks they have, just small things that would improve experience and make it feel like a true 4 star.

I’m pleased to hear that you found the hotel’s exterior and interior appealing and that you enjoyed the room’s cleanliness and comfort, as well as the variety in our breakfast buffet. The Park Suite was a beautiful room with a separate seating area, plenty of storage and large spotlessly clean bathroom with VOYA products. The additional toiletries, dressing gowns and slippers were a nice touch.
Kelly's Steakhouse is excellent and reasonably priced. Breakfast was plentiful with a great range of products, cooked breakfasts are made to order.
Staff are polite, efficient and professional at all times.
Would recommend to family and friends.

My daughter and I are local and decided we will try bar in the midland park hotel for a bit to eat. We were expecting it to be busy being Christmas and when we arrived, the bar was busy enough but there were tables free. Now some of the tables were reserved and others were not.
We asked for a table for 2 and one of the waitresses led us to a table for 3.
Then we were told by a manager to move as that area was fully booked but yet there were no reserved signs on same tables. He told us to go to these low tables in a dark cold corner but we felt these tables are not comfortable for eating (they be ok if you are only having a drink) so we decided to move. They were free tables near the bar and front door with no reserved signs and we asked another member of staff was it okay to sit there and they said it was so we sat down. But again the same manager told us we could not sit there, that we can move over to those low seats but we left. We actually felt degraded.
If ye had a sign up for walk ins to say ye are fully booked or inform all staff that the place was booked out!!!!!!!.....

Usually we have a good experience with the Midland Park Hotel and my family from Kerry and Cork often stay with you but today we were let down.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I sincerely apologize for the experience you and your daughter had during your recent visit to the bar. We take great pride in offering a welcoming atmosphere for all of our guests, and I am truly sorry that we fell short during your visit. I completely understand how frustrating and disappointing it must have been to encounter confusion and feel uncomfortable when trying to find a table. This is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide, and I apologize for the lack of clear communication regarding the availability of seating. I will ensure that all our staff, including management, are better informed about seating arrangements and that we make it clearer for guests whether tables are available or reserved. I also regret that the seating options provided were not to your liking, and that you felt degraded by the situation. Your comfort and satisfaction are very important to us, and I am sorry that we did not meet those expectations on this occasion. Thank you for your continued loyalty to the Midlands Park Hotel. We value your feedback, and I will use it to improve our service and communication with our guests. We hope you will give us another opportunity to welcome you and your family back for a more positive experience. Warm regards, George Leahy General Manager The Midlands Park Hotel

Booked a last minute weekend here and it didn't disappoint! Got a cheaper price on Booking.com than the hotel was offering so keep that in mind. We booked an average room for 2 nights. After booking online I rang and asked about upgrades as there wasn't an option online. The room upgrade was €200 so we didn't take it but I asked about extras as it was a celebration. I told them id get back to them if I wanted to pay for the extras. We arrived to the beautiful hotel to realize they don't have hotel parking but paid parking at €16 a night!! This is only included if your getting Bed and Breakfast (made me realize why the breakfast deal was €50 extra). Callum was on the front desk and couldn't have been nicer! Took our bags and my number to call me if our room was ready early which he did. The room was spotless and a lot bigger than we expected! There was rose petals in the shape of a heart on the bed and a bottle of prosseco and a box of chocolates waiting in the room for us at no extra cost!! Every staff member we met while staying here couldn't have been nicer! The breakfast was beautiful both days with a huge selection and made fresh to order!
We didn't try the Spa but did go for a swim. Unfortunately it was a Sunday morning and kids swimming lessons were on so it was very busy which isn't fun when your hungover. The sauna was lovely though.
I would 100% recommend this hotel and cant wait to go back and try one of the suites!
P.S We tried the steak house which is across the road and you can book through the hotel. Staff were so rude and looked like they all hated their jobs. The steak was bland and not worth the price but the lamb was beautiful. I wouldn't recommend as the staff put me off so much.

I have been a few times and the food here is very good. This evening, food great! However!!! Your servers CANNOT express their grievances about their job to people who are paying for their meals. It is beyond unprofessional. I am there to go out to eat. I do not care if someone is “tired” because they’re the only one on their shift and they are alone until a certain time. I DON’T CARE. I am paying around €50 for my own meal that I want to eat in an enjoyable environment. I do not need the unnecessary dramatics. I can well afford to eat out once, even twice a week. It certainly will not be here for a while.
