Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If i could give a zero I would. Where to start. The decor looks like it hasnt been touched since the 80's. A musky smell in the corridor upstairs.

I paid €120 for a double room that im not sure id even be happy paying €50. We chose the hotel for its location as we were attending an event nearby.

Upon entering the room there was no hot water, a basic requirement in todays world. Then the walls are paper thin as you hear everything, from people in the rooms next door having conversations from 3am until 5am. I heard all about the guy next door talking about cheating on his wife to his mate!!

Upon checkout there was no one at reception to hand the key to just alot of keys at the front desk. I usually check out as late as possible in hotels but this one and i guess like all guests had the same idea to check out early.

Terrible shame that theres no investment by its owners. If you want a hotel with cold showers, lots of noise and no sleep! This is the place to choose. Even the barman in the hotel told us of better places to eat, which says alot. I can see why its a two star but wonder why it not a one star. The rates are too high.

Speaking to a local homeless man, he appeared to have a more comfortable night sleep than myself!

We stayed at Town hotel last weekend for 2 nights, the location is super handy, with access to all restaurants and shops, 10 min from the station only, the staff at reception and at the restaurant were all super friendly and helpful.
It seems an old hotel that has been renovated, and the room was comfortable, lovely bathroom. We came on a weekend where there was a festival which I think was retransmitted on big screens, so it was noisy, but all stopped at around midnight which is very decent (and we were so tired we slept through it).
We have fallen for Portlaoise and think it is not advsertized enough (and Laois in general) by Tourism Ireland, which is a pity because we have found it it is a charming county! We will be back for some more hikes and will stay again at Town Hotel ;) See you soon

This place makes Family Towers look professional. Cracks in the walls, threadbare carpets and the advertised breakfast (8.00am - 9.00am) was non existent......sorry should say that I turned up at 8.00 to be told that nothing was switched on and would be at least half an hour before anything was ready.

Don't think you will have a peaceful night either. The bar plays music until late and there is no sound proofing, so you hear everything and everyone.

I don't think I'll be rushing back!

Have had a couple of functions here and no complaints whatsoever. Staff very professional and accommodating. Excellent food and great selection to suit everyone, delicious cocktails. We'll definitely be coming back for more especially when the live music is back.

We had a fabulous meal here. On the recommendation of Patrick the barman, we chose warm goat's cheese tartlet for starter and the sirloin steaks were well done, just as we ordered! Only snag was the skinny chips, chunky chips are tastier!!!!

Hello, hotels just opened. The staff could not be kinder. The hotel is under upgrading and this was kepted to Minimum. Very welcoming and in the town walking distance from the train station. I will be back.

Dated, smelly, worn carpet, wallpaper hanging off wall, stain on duvet cover, marks on door - back missing off remote control - sellotaped to stop batteries falling out.Late arriving - doors shut - understandably- outside windows filthy
