The only thing going for this place is the location. Missing smoke alarms, dirty bathroom with broken fittings, misleading pictures of breakfast and rooms on their website. To call it Third World would be an insult to people in another country.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO STAY AT THIS AWFUL DUMP. The house looks depressing - weeds in the garden - dirty nets up at the windows - smell of cheap air fresheners when you go in to cover up the smell of weed being smoked. Not clean & no one to greet or welcome you. I booked an ensuite but it was not. We tried to book somewhere else but we could not get a room Athy was fully booked so very reluctantly stayed but left in the morning. It is a doss house & we left at 9am & got breakfast on our way home. The so called back garden was a disgrace with bags of rubbish - a wheelbarrow that had some sort of bbq in & cans - disgusting. This is just unbelievable how bad it was it made me ill. The foul mouthed cleaner didn't help either. I have complained twice to Booking.com as I have never had such a bad experience + a house where drugs were smoked. 😡😡😡…

The best advice we can offer is to avoid at all costs Rheban B&B in Athy. The advertised 24 hour reception and cooked breakfast are non existent. it is an implied term that the service provided would be done so with reasonable care and skill as required under Supply of Goods and Consumer rights. On approach, this property is situated next to a grave yard, the outside is as run down and tired as some of the graves, the interior is as bad. When we arrived the front door was unlocked and there was a cheap pungent smell of room fresheners used as a mask a smell of drains and mustiness which was very off-putting. The garden was a mess and the attempts to contact anybody fruitless. We had booked two rooms both en-suite. Eventually we only got one en-suite which had a broken toilet which we had to fix to use the cistern lid was a piece of board the shower was ancient held together with electrical tape and was too risky to use. We had to call back several times for the second room as we were told firstly it had not been cleaned, then the key was lost and then we were given a alternative non en-suite room. The rooms were painted by somebody lacking an eye for decoration, the beds old and the bedding fit for the bin. The dining area looked unhygienic, deserted and discouraging. It resembled a run down hostel and its a shame booking.com haven't taken more ownership of accommodation that is being advertised on their platform. There were other more concerning issues we had with the property that we cannot put into this review but as I previously stated if wanting accommodation in Athy be warned that no matter how low your expectations this property will be below that standard. A note to owners - It was an implied term of our contract that the accommodation you provided would be of a standard of cleanliness and quality reasonably to be expected from this type and price of hotel. Thus we class this a breach of contract. With an bit of interest, money and integrity in providing the service advertised Rheban B&B could be habitable and not a shambles as it currently is.…

I had booked a room here for one night fo a triathlon in 2 weeks time. Less than 24 hours after booking the room, I was notified that the triathlon was cancell. I tried to cancel the room. They offered me a voucher to stay another time. I have no other reason to go to Athy. I feel when I cancelled within 24 hours for circumstances outside of my control, the decent thing to do would have been to refund my money. I tried to ring them, but they are completely non contactable. Extremely poor service Donal

Stayed here the night of a friend’s wedding in Kilkea. At 70 euro a night - for what is in reality a below standard hostel - this felt like nothing short of a scam. When we arrived, the front door was wide open and nobody was there. I called the owner and she was unpleasant and told us we had to wait until 4pm. Prior to our arrival I had received confirmation from booking.com that our early arrival would be facilitated. When we eventually got into the bnb we were greeted by a filthy kitchen. Our rooms were also filthy with spiders and cobwebs all over the walls. The sheets were old and musty. We only stayed here as the Castle was booked out and there were no other options, it feels now that the price was advantageous to that fact.

On arrival, there was no answer at the front door so I rang the phone number from the website. The lady gave me the combination code for a lockbox at the front door, there I got our key to get in & room key attached. Never met anybody from the time we arrived and again nobody when we departed. Room was cheap @ €84 for a family room for 1 night in December BUT lesson learned to go more expensive to get quality. The room was a disgrace, bed linen was old & gave us the creeps, tiles on bathroom floor were buckled, spiders on the bathroom walls, patched plaster work on room walls but to top it off, the double bed had a sag in the middle the worst I’ve ever seen, the mattress must have been decades old. Two people could not sleep in that bed cos both would cave into the middle. I was awake all night, saw every hour on the clock. I sat at the foot of one of my children’s single beds all night. At least the neighbours were quiet - as it was an old graveyard! I felt the place so off-putting, I decided to skip breakfast, my husband had coffee which he said was disgusting & our youngest child had coco pops which he couldn’t eat as they tasted like coffee. It was self service. I cancelled the cooked breakfast by text & headed for the nearest service station where I got my breakfast. The lady on the phone seemed like a lovely lady but she needs to update her b&b as standards are very low!…
