Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I were on a cycling tour, on our own and with panniers. We were cycling the Ring of Kerry, but also wanted to see the quieter roads and interior of the peninsula. This small lodge is a gem. It sits on a beautiful river, with lovely views from all rooms. Because we could not bike to a restaurant, we asked Breda if she could accommodate us by providing dinner. No problem. Shortly before our trip she emailed asking whether we had any dietary restrictions. We told her we were interested in traditional Irish dishes and, sure enough, she cooked a delicious Irish stew (and apple pie!), accompanied by a great Spanish wine.
We arrived too early for check-in but, rather than make us wait, Breda cooked us a nice lunch.
The Irish breakfast may have been the best we have had.
The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. A lovely sheep dog, Leslie, followed us everywhere.
It was like being invited into and old friend’s home.

The famous "Ring of Kerry" on the Iveragh Peninsula gets vast hordes of visitors every year, especially in the summer. But the most beautiful areas of the peninsula are some of the less visited wooded and mountainous areas in the interior. Blackstones B&B in the Glencar area is located in one of these areas, in perhaps the most picturesque spot you will ever see, on the banks of the Caraig River next to an old stone bridge in the midst of a wood filled with native trees.

This B&B caters mainly to the fishing and hillwalking crowd rather than to big-spending tour bus groups that consistently uglify the coastal towns. The river is a mecca for salmon fishing, and is lined with wild blackberry bushes that you can pick berries from. Proprietors Padraig and Breeda Breen along with their dog Scruffy are kindly and welcoming, and Scruffy is happy to accompany you if go for a walk. The place is frequently a stop for hikers along the Kerry Way heading to Glenbeigh or Killorglin. The location feels remote, but restaurants in the nearby town of Killorglin are only a 15- to 20-minute drive or so.

Breakfasts rival those of any B&B on the peninsula, with plenty of homey gourmet details. We paid 33 Euro per person per night. (A couple of self-catering cottages are available as well.) Hearty evening meals are available with advance notice for 25 Euro. They also offer packed lunches and luggage transfers for hikers. All of the rooms have views onto the river. We felt the place was a terrific value for the price, and would enthusastically recommend it to anyone.

We stayed at Blackstones House for one night as we walked the Kerry Way. Since this B & B is somewhat isolated (probably not the best choice if you are interested in pub-hopping), Breda was nice enough to pick us up from the Kerry Way. Blackstones House is beautiful, situated on the banks of a river. Our room was a bit on the small side, but was comfortable and had everything we needed. One of the best things about our room was the lovely view overlooking the river. Breda cooked us a wonderful three course dinner the night we arrived, and the full Irish breakfast the next morning was delicious as well. One piece of advice-come to the table hungry because Breda will keep bringing the food! When we were ready to resume our Kerry Way walk, Breda shuttled us to the trail, and even gave us a couple of homemade muffins for energy during our walk. We enjoyed our stay here very much, and would stay here again.

We stayed here for one night while walking the Kerry Way booked through Macs Adventures. This was the only accommodation we were unhappy with on a 11 night trip.
Despite the B&B website advertising that they offer dinner, and through Macs Adventures they off a pick up from the end of the stage at Glencar. In both cases this is no longer the case.
So, we were left with no choice but to eat at the Climbers Inn at the end of the stage after a long walking stage and then to walk on 3.2 miles to the accommodation. This just does not work for trekkers.
We were informed by our host that if we had taken the Kerry Way to walk on, instead of the road, it would have been only a half hour or so.
So, the next morning early before breakfast, I walked back to the climbers Inn on the road, and then walked back on the Kerry Way. On my own at a fast pace I retraced the 3.2 miles on the road in 49 minutes. It then took me 1 hour 17 minutes to do the 3.38 miles on the Kerry Way!
The room, although large, was damp. Not surprising given that the bathroom floor was wet and got wetter with every flush of the toilet.
This is not the standard we expect of Macs Adventures but given the terrific standard of their other accommodations, they need to review the use of this one.

We almost didn't find this B&B. The roads to get there are very tight. The B&B is nestled along a river bank and there are great areas within walking distance to take pictures. The bridge leading up to the house is beautiful. If you are looking for a luxury type lodge, this is not it. The lodge is geared more for outdoors people. There is a lot of hiking/biking/fishing near by and I would imagine these accommodations would be perfect for these folks. We had a family of 6 and it was a little rustic for us. In our two week travel around Ireland we tried to choose a variety of B&B's. Our room was on the small side, spartan with a double bed and a single bed and kind of reminded me of a hunt camp. The bathroom was adequate, but had a small shower. The room smelled a little musty. There were large windows in the room that overlooked the river which was very nice. The family/dining room had large windows to take advantage of the wonderful view of the river. We had a good night's sleep as you can hear the river flowing outside your window. As there are no restaurants nearby, our proprietor recommended a nearby restaurant along a lake called Jack's. It was fabulous.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blackstone House. This B&B is situated by a river bank. it is absolutely gorgeous. I felt such peace waking up to that sound of water. we stayed at 2 hotels and 4 different B&Bs during our stay and this was absolutely the most tranquil.

We stayed for two nights. Breeda & Padraigh were the perfect hosts and the room had a gorgeous view of the river. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet countryside getaway. It truly is a hidden gem with a lot history. Not too far from Kilorglin. Great spot for people that love a nice nature walk. Walkers and Fishers are welcome!

My husband, then teenaged daughter and I visited Ireland in 1996: pre-internet/Google/TripAdvisor, etc. We found Blackstones House by accident - planned to stay for one night and loved it and its generous hosts Breda Breen, her husband and puppies so much that we extended our stay for another night or two. I think the fact that twenty years later, we still remember it and tell friends who are visiting Ireland to look for it, speaks to the excellence of the establishment and the beauty of the surroundings. It was a wonderful place to stay while we explored the countryside and we received a warm welcome each time we returned! I hope one day we can visit again.

In our trip we decided to go there. At the beginning it's a little bit complicated the localisation because is in the middle of the anything, but when you find the house... is an amazing experience with the nature, you can see cows, deers... The house's owners were ver nice and friendly and they at all times want to help us with everything. The breakfast was big and tasty, they asked us what we wanted for our breakfast.
I recommend this place without a doubt!

From the warmness of our host to the breathtaking scenery it was worth the trip out! it was secluded and had such great trails! It is truly out of the way but make the bet of it, Have some wine and take in the beautiful stream and surrounding irish landscapes! Delicious breakfast and the dog scuffles is the cutest!
