The hike from Black Valley to Glencar can be tough, especially when the weather is not ideal. The Climbers Inn is located on the Kerry Way, and offers dinner, breakfast, and comfortable rooms with a hot shower. There is a small shop for supplies, a pub and post office.
We slept here in august 2022 when hiking the Kerry Way, and were happy with the cold pints of Guinness and the very tasty (and large) breakfast after a good nights rest.

We're just back from a three night stay at The Climbers Inn, having gone to Kerry for a charity climb of Carrauntoohill. This Inn is has an old school Irish pub, with shop and post office attached, and the perfect base to hike and explore Kerry. The public areas are clean and homely, rooms are basic, snug, and spotless, the beds and pillows are extremely comfortable and shower piping hot and powerful - well needed after our torrential day on the mountain. The food was surprisingly good, we had a mixture of dishes from burgers, steak sandwiches and curries, washed down with creamy Guinness and Carlsberg. The real jewel in the crown of this place is the people, both staff and the "natives" The Bar and kitchen staff couldn't do enough for us, they were so efficient, friendly and helpful. We missed breakfast one morning and were asked by two separate staff members if we'd like toast, yoghurt or toasted sandwiches. In the end we decided on coffees and snacks, which were given FOC because we missed brekkie. Now that's real Irish hospitality, and something you wouldn't get in a bigger chain hotel. We were treated to chats and banter with the locals in the evening which was great craic. If you stay at The Climbers Inn say hi to Patrick and the lads for us !!! Una, Claire, Ruth & Nicola xx

The staff are lovely and very accommodating. Food is good and very reasonably priced.
In the bedrooms they could do with hooks on the back of the doors and a corner basket in the shower & over the basin.
I'd prefer a firmer mattress.
It is very clean and very good value.
We will stay soon soon we hope.

The place takes a bit of time to get to, as it is not on a major road, but the ride in is spectacular. Once you arrive, there is ample parking across the street and the people are real, and agreeable to chat, inform, or leave you to yourself. The prices are more than fair and they pour a handsome pint. The decor has a warm patina to it communicating it is clearly not a typical tourist trap.

We booked a stay here for 2 nights over the Bank Holiday weekend. We had requested an early check in and received an email to say that this would be accommodated. When we arrived there was no doors open for us to gain entry so we phoned to say we were outside & couldn't get in, the response we got was 'why do you want to get in?'. When we were let inside there was 2 men in the bar drinking alcohol at 11.30am which on a Sunday in Ireland is illegal as alcohol shouldn't be sold before 12.30pm...
Our room wasn't ready which was fine, we just head off for the day. The owner asked if we wanted to book a table for dinner and said it got very busy so we booked for 8pm.
We returned at 7.30pm to check in and were shown to our room. The room was spotless and had been recently refurbished with new carpets, paint and the shower was lovely.
We went down for dinner for 8pm to find they had no table for us so we were shown to another room which became apparent was the breakfast room, we were there just the 2 of us in a large cold room. The waitress was lovely and we ordered 2 drinks, my glass arrived with lipstick on it....in a pandemic might I add. I'm not easily offended but I was horrified by this! The owner came out and I told her of the situation from checking in up to the glass issue. She apologised and then said 'well you know we are busy and had to turn people away for rooms tonight', Given that I had paid for my room, I'm still baffled at how this was in any way relevant to the situation and I felt it didn't excuse any of it. My drink was replaced free of charge and we were moved to the bar to eat. Also to note, my second glass was still dirty so I chose just not to drink from it!!
Social distancing? It just didn't exist, as you can see from the photos, 2 men just pulled up chairs and basically sat on top of my husband. Of the 7 members of staff, only 1 was wearing a face covering.
2 of the main courses were not available so I ordered the lasagne which was reheated and dry as a bone.
I asked for the bill at 9.05pm and asked again at 9.35pm, it arrived at 9.45pm. The lady who was serving us at this stage was so lovely and was just run off her feet. 60l All of the above seem quite trivial however put together on a list just makes for a poor stay. I would not recommend booking this hotel, there are much nicer accommodation close by

We enjoyed our stay at Climbers Inn. The rooms were a little tight for 4 tall adults but the beds were comfortable, the shower was hot and it was perfect for one night. Lost one star for absence of wifi in the guest room. It is in the restaurant and lobby. Sons enjoyed the bar. Dinner was delicious. Went for a hike and enjoyed it. Continental breakfast was outstanding. Long, winding, scary drive to get there but would stay here again.

Myself and a friend stayed here as recomended when we were booking a guided hike to Carrauntoohil with Kerryclimbing and it was absolutely perfect! Very friendly hosts, the place is in an amazing location !!!! Accomodation is spotless and has all been refurbished and we had a super tasty meal the evening of our climb. An on site bar for a celebratory drink for getting to the top of the highest mountain too...what an experience and what more could you want. We can't wait to go back to the Climbers Inn for another few days of scenic hiking in the heart of Kerry.

On Day 2 of the Kerry Way out of Kilarney, I think this is only one of two places to stay. The rooms are fine and the pub underneath is good/fun (as is the breakfast). I'm primarily writing because the staff was so helpful to me and my wife after an injury at the end of the day's hike.
My wife injured her arm from a fall (we later found out it was broken) about 5 in the afternoon on a Friday. There are no real emergency services near Glencar. The staff organized us a taxi to get back to Kilarney (where we picked up our car and proceeded to Tralee Emergency room). They made sure we could back into our room in the middle of the night (2 a.m. return from hospital), and gave us extra time in the morning to sleep in and get our act together.
They truly helped us during a very stressful 24 hours.

Stayed in the climbers Inn as had travelled down to hike the Coomloughra Horseshoe. You receive a true Irish welcome and nothing is too much trouble for the ladies who look after you. Food was fab and very quickly served. Rooms were very nicely decorated and clean. Bathroom was clean and the shower was amazing, great pressure and unlimited hot water. Tv in the room and adequate place for clothing. Would most definitely stay here again.

Sadly having to attend a family funeral here in Glencar at short notice, we were fortunate enough that the Climbers Inn had accommodation for us to stay in. My wife and I found the room to be first class, the bed, the shower and the attire of the room was excellent, and therefore enabling us to have a great nights sleep. The full Irish breakfast gave you a good start to the day with plenty of choices to be made.
Full credit to the new proprietors who have recently taken over and the staff for a wonderful reception.
We would highly recommend anyone looking at these reviews to visit this wonderful establishment.
