I highly recommend a stay at The Plough. It's off the beaten path, but worth the detour. Ventry is a delightful village, with many opportunities to take in the beautiful scenery on foot. Our guestroom was quite large enough for 2 adults to occupy, and the sizable common room provided space to relax and enjoy the view of Ventry Bay. The local pub is a short walk down the hill, as well as a small convenience store to get some snacks or post a letter. We were dependent on public transportation, so we appreciated the local mini-coach that runs back and forth to Dingle regularly (1.5 Euro each way). One of the highlights is the breakfast prepared by host Beatrice. Everything from a full Irish breakfast, to fruit and cereal, gave us a great start to our day. I only wish our stay could have been longer.

As per previous reviews the room was small, and an extra blanket was needed at night. But we only paid Euro 100, and the view from the front over the bay was magnificent. Quinns pub in Ventry serves great dinners. Our host offered us a choice of breakfast times, and the room was ready for us when we surfaced in the morning. Great value for money B&B. Tip: arrive in daylight as the property is a little to locate, and to get the sunset views

We stayed in the Plough B&B in August 2020. We had originally booked to stay for 3 nights however we extended our stay by 2 extra nights as we enjoyed it so much.
Lovely house overlooking the beach and Beatrice was a wonderful host. The breakfast each morning was delicious and also catered for gluten free needs.
Our double bedroom had everthing we needed and had lovely views of the sea.
We also did a fantastic boat tour with the company Sealife Rib Tours owned by Beatrice and her husband. This was the highlight of our stay and a wonderful end to our trip. We will be back.

We had nothing but problems with out stay, from the booking to our departure. Our booking for three days was confirmed and paid for in advance. On the day of our arrival, we received an email telling us our reservation was cancelled due to a booking error. Eventually, they agreed we could stay one night. The room was tiny-tiny with the only floor space taken up by our luggage so that we had to step over it to get to the bathroom. Bedding and towels were old. The Hostess was angry and hostel toward us in the morning. She demanded we check out early. Our plans for that day were completely disrupted as we had no where to go. We explained this and asked to keep our luggage there for the day. She refused to accommodate us and then told us to leave her establishment. There are much nicer and kinder establishment in the area.

The host and hostess couldn’t have been more helpful.
Bed & Breakfast is up the hill from Ventry village overlooking the sea. Lovely view.
The creamy porridge is to die for and lots to choose from the menu.
Can’t wait to go back next year.

Not sure why this gets such high reviews. At best described as ‘homely’. Old furniture, bedding and towels. Needs refurbishment. Not our thing to stay somewhere like this and really disappointed with how it was.
Breakfast was OK but not fantastic. Only 1 pub/restaurant in 1970s style nearby downhill and the food was usual affair. Glad to leave.

Lovely place with beautiful, breathtaking views of the bay. It was very quiet and comfortable enough. The breakfast was huge and loads of choices. Easy to find and good parking right out front. It was very accessible for people with mobility issues.

Despite Beatrice’s request at check-out, and written on the receipt so I wouldn’t forget, I’m unable to give this B&B a top rating. One of the things I value about a B&B is the feeling of being almost a houseguest of the owner. I enjoy visiting with the owner about things to do, and places to eat, in the area. I appreciate the interaction with the owner as this is something that one does not usually find in a hotel. There was none of that in our stay at The Plough. It appears that both owners have jobs in addition to running the B&B. When we checked in late afternoon we were met by the husband who had just gotten off work. The next morning when Beatrice was taking our breakfast order she apologized for not being present when we arrived. The following morning I heard her make the same apology to another couple who’d arrived the day after us. The only conversation we had was when she was waiting on the computer to process my credit card on check-out. Shortly after being shown our room I wanted to use the wifi to book rooms for the rest of our trip. The wifi, while a strong signal, needed a password. We knocked on a couple of the residence doors several times with no response (the husband had said he was going to shower and change clothes). We walked down the hill to check out the very few places of business there and when we came back the owners’ son was outside kicking a ball and was able to get us the password. Why isn’t it posted in the room? The breakfast was okay. The first day I ordered the Full Irish Breakfast which the menu indicated as coming with, among other things, white and black puddings. Mine didn’t. When I asked Beatrice about their absence she replied that most people don’t like them, so she doesn’t include them unless asked. Couldn’t that have been stated on the menu? She did fry some up and bring them to me after I’d finished the rest of the breakfast. Our room was at the end of the hall on the first floor on the front of the house. It was typical of my experience with Irish B&B’s. The bath was very small with very limited space to store toiletries. A pleasant surprise was wash/face clothes. The towels were nice and changed each day. The house is pretty isolated which may be a positive or negative depending on one’s point of view. There is one seafood restaurant within easy walking distance. We went in the first evening but there were only a very few things on the menu and all were fish. It appears, quite literally, to serve the catch of the day. We were cold pretty much our entire time here, though I realize that can be a cultural thing. Dingle is maybe a 10 minute drive and we elected to eat there each evening. The water several hundred yards down the hill from the house is tidal but there is no wave action, so it appears like a large lake.

Thank you for reading. If you found this useful, I'll appreciate a Yes vote below.

This is a hard review to write. As you can see by my postings, I have contributed a decent amount of reviews to TripAdvisor....most all of very positive. In fact, I wasn't going to write in at all but, when we talked about it, we decided travelers need-to-know before they spend their hard earned money.
Sidebar; I found, in general, most Europeans are so comfortable with their own euro dollar LIFESTYLE they Fail to Relate to the fact that when American's travel abroad, we have to spend 33-34-even 40% more of our dollars to pay the tariffs overseas [worse yet, in the U.K.]. So, if they think we are TIGHT...like O.J Simpson's glove; they may be right.)

I can sum this experience up by saying - just like in America, some folks may OPERATE a restaurant or B&B but, they really should be in another line of business. This lady obviously does not like, or love, what she does or.... dislikes Americans. Then again, reading the other reviews, its possible she just doesn't like a LOT of people, regardless of nationality. Beatrice seemed to get along with my wife but, my wife is a National Treasure, very Positive and EVERYBODY loves her....with all due respect to her, even children, squirrels and birds.

I actually booked this B&B 2 weeks in advance of my journey to Ireland but, canceled the booking after just 8-10 hours of booking it, after going back and reading all the reviews on this GREAT Website.
As fate would have it; we arrived for 3 days in Ventry, booking two nights at Ceann Tra Heights (beyond lovely) and one at another B&B. That one "over-booked", by accident, and they 'did me a favor' (?) and re-booked me- where I Canceled: 'The Plough'. So, I am already thrilled beyond belief knowing I could potentially have to suffer The Wrath of hat others called "The Witch of Ventry". We arrived to a moderately Cool reception ( oh-oh, had already registered my name/credit card) and our room is on the 2nd floor/ front of the house and it is only at best described as 'Average'. It Looks Like we're probably sleeping in the owners bed ( guess what?, we WERE!). Going back today and viewing the photos of rooms offered worldwide: (for 75 euro) this move..... was not 'appropriate' (nor priced fairly, even as a favor to the other B&B owner).
The 'view' consists of a window that opens on the roof with a 'peak' of the bay. "Peak" is defined as craning your head out the window, risking possible decapitation and looking with one eye.
I'm thinking now that the earlier reviews were dead-on.....this is somebody's home that has been jacked around and turned into a B&B, but, it is not purpose-built, professionally decorated like most of the other Irish "B&B Houses", nor run like a professional business. You are greeted here by an old sofa, sitting on, what we call in America, a Mud Porch, covered by an odd green, satin quilt, you share the sitting room with the rest of the family ( their Son is very nice), the breakfast room IS the dining room, the bedroom TV is as big as a Minute and, the list goes on and on. What We Saw (mind-you), was decorated by Horst the Plumber.
I guess my wife and I are indeed spoiled- we eat out- every night, not because we are mulit-millionaire's but, because my wife does not cook -as good as she looks- ('nough said). So, for those that wrote that this owner "..is a Great Cook", has not eaten-out .....often. Breakfast (Egg & Tomato Omelet) was just okay- Get Even? plopped on a plate with no garnish or sides; certainly not 'chef' quality or noteworthy. The entire home was not tidy or spectacularly decorated, as were So Many of our Great Night Stays (for less $$), and certainly not anywhere as nice as her closest competitors (also for less money). This woman has obviously let - life events?- ruin her business. Despite our Sympatico- having lost both my 98 yr.old Father & my wife's Mother just prior to this trip....we both just felt uncomfortable and not -Genuinely- welcome. We stayed in 12 different BB's in 15 days and this was 2nd worst, just above a last minute booking at a farmhouse in Beaufort.
My 'Average rating' is being kind.
The story gets worse, Way Worse, but, I am a man of my word..and will let it fizzle.....to the same degree as my chances of returning.

The owner of this establishment is a very aggressive and extremely rude woman called Beatrice. She took it upon herself to change our booking from rooms with en suites to a share bathroom on the day we arrived so that she could get more people in. On showing my disapproval she rudely told me we could leave knowing that we’d never find another place to stay.
During breakfast she took our order and then presented me with my omelette with the mushrooms and onions I asked her to omit and the omelette was also raw in the middle. On leaving she asked me if I thought I should get a discount because of the problems and I said $10 Euro would b fair, she then said she’d only give the discount “on my agreement that I not put up a review about her!!!!” I would not agree to this so she shoved my card back in my hand and loudly screamed “you got a free room”.
I have travelled with booking.com for many many years now, am a genius member and have never come across any person even remotely like this woman. As we were about to leave the car park she came running down to our car and screamed at me that I should pay the commission to Booking.com and when I told her that it was her decision not to take the 75 Euro she tore the paper up and threw it into our car.
An hour later I got a notice that she’d canceled our booking, even though our friends we were traveling with who were on our booking had paid and have a receipt. She is now defrauding booking.com.
Avoid this place like the plaque and I may add that the rooms are tiny and the linen is old and the rooms are very dated and smell musty.
