Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here as a family (2 adults 3 kids and 1 Cav King Charles) last August 2020. We had the best time ever! The room was big and spacious for us all with our own en suite and Darby the dog stayed with us as he is accustomed to! Mary went out of her way to make sure we had an amazing time. Looked after us and more so our dog! And spoke Irish to the kids which was great. A very relaxed stay with use of kitchen and dining room if needed in the evening. Breakfast was lovely each morning and weather permitting there are tables outside for the amazing view the hostel has to offer. Mount Brandon nearby for some trekking, beautiful beach Fermoyle Strand nearby and pier jumping at Farran. Will definitely be back to see Mary if nothing else!! An absolute lady!

Perfectly located in the heart of the village on the Dingle Way. Great hospitality from Mary as always. Clean comfy ensuite rooms. Restaurant nearby for dinner (or cook in). Light breakfast provided including delicious pumpkin seed bread! One of my favourite hostels in Ireland.

The Dingle Way is not an easy walk due to the amount of road walking. I had a bad day the day I walked Mount Brandon, due to my own fault and not reading the directions, so I ended up walking a lot further than necessary!
Mary is an angel and was very kind and sympathetic.
The hostel is an oasis of charm and comfort. The sort of place you realise you want to stay after a day's walking. The bed was the most comfortable of the trip and the breakfast was fantastic with such a big choice of cereals, fresh wheaten bread and toast, yoghurts and fruit. The real appeal for me is the ability to chat with other people who are either walking, cycling or just visiting the Dingle Way, in particular Mount Brandon. Would recommend this place and the great pub next door for a meal and chat with Mícheál, a man with many stories!
Mary thank you for everything, your place is perfect!

Common spaces are very big: a big dining room a spacious kitchen and a sofa room. The sofa room is really cozy, perfect for tea and book. The kitchen is well furnished with the possibility to cook many people in the same time.
However, the hostel was not clean and very humid...

Response from Micheal De Buitlear, Owner at Mount Brandon Hostel
Responded 23 Aug 2022
Many thanks for choosing our Hostel. In response to your comments re alleged condition of Hostel: You and your companion along with 4 other guests arrived unannounced by taxi at the Hostel on Mon. 1st. August ' 11.00 aprox. You were on the Dingle Way walking route and could not walk over Mount Brandon due to wind and rain. You were greeted by a member of the Hostel team who advised that it was far too early for check-in - some guests had not yet checked out from the previous night - and that the whole Hostel had to be cleaned from top to bottom - that week-end is one of the busiest of the year. You were allocated a space for luggage and given use of the common areas until your room was ready . Due to the terrible weather everyone who came in the Hostel had either damp/wet clothing or boots or luggage . In the wait time for your room you did not advise any of our team of your discomfort - if you had we could have transferred you to another accommodation in the village.. At checkout the receptionist enquired if all was o.k. for you ,the answer was "Yes ". Hostel Management.

Loved this place. Clean, bright rooms, big breakfast included in the price to set you up for the day. Gorgeous views from the benches at the rear of the hostel. Within 15 minutes of Dingle but away from the madding crowds. Next to Brandon Point where you're guaranteed to see dolphins far below. Then there's Mary who's kind, considerate, and full of helpful tips and advice for getting the most out of your visit to the locality. Highly recommended.

This was a really great place, I loved. The new owner is very welcoming and helpful, a terrific guy. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the dining area looks out onto the bay and green hills, or you can eat outside at lawn tables enjoying the view. The breakfast has plenty of cereals and yogurt and good bread, juice. Always tea and coffee around. Guests are friendly, nice vibe. There's a cozy pub just up the road, and a small local market. Great for a stopover in between hiking or touring the area. Highly recommend⭐!

With all the uncertainty due to Covid and whether the local pub & restaurant would b'é open, made a last minute booking with the friendly and helpful Mary.
Great value as includes a great continental breakfast and bedroom, kitchen, lounge area etc.
Could not say enough about welcoming and friendly informative Mary.
