I have known of Errisbeg for a number of years. It is a wonderful place to stay and the large period house is surrounded by gardens. It is hosted by Richard who can tell you so much local information you will enjoy your visit all the more.

Amazing house with interesting antiques, pictures and other items relating the host's family history. Richard is an excellent host, and is very knowledgeable about the Roundstone area. I stayed in two of the bedrooms, both of which were large, clean and well furnished. The garden is also worth a walk around.

My wife and I stayed at Erris Beg house for 3 nights and we had such a lovely experience. The house itself was just somewhere you would dream of staying. So much charm and sentimentality. We loved the pieces of art all over the house and the old artefacts that remind you of years ago. The garden was so well planned out and definitely deserves loads of appreciation. Its maturity and serene atmosphere was just bliss. And then there was Richard the proud owner of Erris beg house. What a wonderful gentleman. He looked after us so well. He even gave us a tour of his garden. He told us all the history of the house. An amazing man in our opinion. He recommended fabulous restaurants. We left with a touch of sadness like we were leaving home. But Richard we will be back.

We stayed in Errisbeg House for my husbands 40th. We loved it from the minute we drove up the driveway! This is a family home which has been in the owner's family for generations. It is steeped in history from family pictures to genealogy charts. Our room (Queen's room) at the back of the house was very tranquil with an extra large bed. Our adjoining bathroom was modernised but with the old antique fireplace still visible and the house was cosy and inviting. We loved being near the village but away from it all. The Boreen road to the village was a pleasure to walk each day. Richard is a superb host and his breakfasts were the highlight of each day. His homemade jams , breads and freshly picked fruit from the garden along with fresh juices and freshly brewed coffees and teas make this a very unique Irish breakfast. The gathering at the antique dining table was a lovely way to meet other guests. Richard easily converses in French and Italian with the guests and we enjoyed meeting fellow Europeans at breakfast. Thanks for a wonderful stay ! Thanks also for chilling our birthday champagne which we enjoyed at the nearby beach !

I felt Errisbeg House was overpriced for what it was. Richard seems to be cutting costs and effort as much as he can from the quality of towels and lack of tea making facilities in an unheated house to the only hot food offered at breakfast being scrambled eggs. That said it was lovely and quiet with lots of old character and he was very welcoming.

Errisbeg House, an easy 10 minute walk from Roundstone, stands secluded in a grove of trees at the base of Errisbeg. Our host, Richard, was very gracious...even assisting us in getting our twentieth anniversary weddng bands blessed at his church. The house itself is not "purpose built" and over 100 years old so it comes with a lot of character...there are creeks and cracks. In addition to being only a 10 minute walk from town, Gurteen and Dog's Bay are a five minute drive in the opposite direction, and the gate that starts the climb to the top of Errisbeg is just a 10 minute walk out the "back door."

What can I say, this was the highlight of our trip. Our Host, Richard couldn't have been more gracious with both his house and his time. A short and refreshing walk to the village I recommend highly this as a place to stay. We will be back.

I have been embarrassingly remiss in writing this review of Errisbeg House but wanted to do so as travelers are making their plans for the coming tourist season. First, the owner and proprietor Richard Duke de Stacpoole, Richard as we came to know him, was/is a highlight of our travels across Ireland. A gracious host, a captivating conversationalist, and a wonder-book of regional and historical knowledge, we are fortunate to have had the opportunity to be his guests……………..and his two welcoming “gentle giant pups”. Errisbeg House is a step back in history, a beautiful period house with the most pristine grounds and privacy you could wish. Our room was spacious with the most beautiful views imaginable and quiet. We slept like babes. The bath was large and worked well. We were walking distance into Roundstone where we ate dinner both of our cherished two nights at Errisbeg. The first night we enjoyed The Shamrock and, though crowded, the food was very good. The 2nd night we tried O’Dowd’s Restaurant and the food was really disappointing. In truth, it had been suggested that we not waste our time at O’Dowd’s and we wish we had listened. Anyway, back to Errisbeg House. Richard spent considerable time with us, simply in wonderful conversation. We learned much of his family, that he is the 7th Duke in a line of Dukes. We each shared lots of information about our families which was a delight. We learned much about the Connemara Region from him as well and he took the time to thoroughly highlight our map with markings as to where we should and should not spend our time………………..he was exactly on the mark. Additionally, his breakfasts were a healthy and enjoyable break from the normally heavy and over-indulged buffets. He served fresh fruits, breads and yogurts, and though leaving the breakfast table very satisfied, we left it feeling healthy and enjoying new foods, jams, local fruits. This location was also wonderful as a base to visit the oceanfront and for visiting throughout the Connemara Region, particularly heading to Clifden and the Sky Road, the Connemara Valley, and other gorgeous spots. Actually, when you travel to Roundstone coming from the direction of Galway, you might turn left, just before Roundstone, on a small road that takes you out onto the peninsula that “looks back” across the bay toward Roundstone on the hill. Both the view of Rouindstone as well as the peninsula itself are both beautiful and pictures to take home. Errisbeg House is only an hour or a little more from Galway, an easy drive to Clifden and the Valley area and is a place you should not miss. We loved it and will go back.

Richard's hospitality left nothing to be desired from the welcome handshake, wonderful ambience, fabulous bedrooms and fresh yummy breakfast to the fond farewell. Beautiful old house set in wonderful gardens with guinea fowl, ducks, geese etc. A lovely short walk to the village of Roundstone.

Errisberg House is the kind of place we always look for when traveling in Ireland. The house is rich with history and you really feel you are stepping back in time. It was built by one of the area's most prominent families and Richard, the owner, is the current Duke.
We stayed in the King's Room which was very spacious, with excellent heating, extremely comfortable bed and a good shower. Breakfast was great, with home made soda bread, home made honey, jams and more.
Richard really took the time to explain to us the history of the place and of his family, suggest day trips and really make us feel special.
The village of Roundstone is absolutely adorable and makes an excellent base for exploring the area.
You will not regret staying here if you cherish authenticity and a taste of history.
