We arrived quite late after our hike up Ben Baun (beautiful but terrifying). We had such a warm welcome and a really warm and cozy room. The beds were very comfortable. We got food from the nearby diner which the hostess recommended and ate at the beautiful Island View beach at sunset. The diner served local mussels, chicken burgers and great chips. When checking in, we were given a breakfast menu and it was incredible- great veggie options and I loved seeing a cheeseboard on the menu! I would really recommend this place- the B+B owners were so nice, such a gorgeous view from our table at breakfast and a great little fire/sofa area for a glass of wine before bed.
My family has stayed at this B & B 5-6 times during the past 7 years. On one occasion, there were 5 of us staying in 3 separate rooms. We have returned to The Olde Castle House because it is one of our favorite places to stay in the west of Ireland. The rooms are clean and spacious, the view spectacular, and the hosts are welcoming and friendly. When we stay there, we feel like we are being treated more like friends or family than guests. The breakfasts are excellent, and the view from the dining room is beautiful. There are places to walk near-by and villages with pubs and restaurants are near-by. We are already looking forward to returning there again.
This house sits at the end of the road in Renvyle under a tower castle from 11c and over looks the bay. Clean, quiet and very private. Virginia warmly greets each visitor and offers tea and biscuits before settling down for a most enjoyable stay. Roisin handles the reservations with professional and timely accuracy while Samantha serves up a wholesome breakfast and GREAT coffee! Just a short drive to the Connamara National Park where the hiking is endless and trails for all ages and abilities. This is a home we hope to keep returning to for years to come. Thank you all for your hospitality!
The Olde Castle House is in a fantastic location right next to the sea with beautiful views. We was made very welcome upon arrival and was given a much needed cup of tea. The lady was very helpful with local knowledge. The breakfast was absolutely brilliant and Samantha was very pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean with a sea view. Perfect will visit again.
If I could give the B & B a 1 star rating I would, but it doesn’t seem that I have that option. We stayed here 1 night and that was too long, it was by far the only place in our 14 day trip that we wouldn’t return to (we stayed in a total of 7 hotels/B & Bs/Airbnbs). Check in was from 2p-6pm. We arrived at about 550pm and were shown to our room. I didn’t say anything initially when she opened the door to the room because I thought I had made a mistake when booking and reserved the wrong room. So we went to dinner and came back and I looked at my printout confirmation. I had not made a mistake, I had reserved the right room, the description read it was one full bed, with a sitting area, bathroom, and view. There was even a picture on my printout confirmation of the room we were supposed to be in. The room we were given had one full bed, and one twin bed, a super tiny bathroom, no sitting area and a view of a bush... So it seemed that we were given the wrong room. So when I approached the woman who had checked us in, she at first said, that we were in the right room and there was no mistake. So I then pulled out my confirmation and showed her he description and the picture and she then changed her story and said, well the room you have now was more expensive anyway... (more expensive because it slept more people, not because it was a nicer room, it was the worst room in the house). I was obviously upset about this, we are in our honeymoon and our room was given away. I told her that we wouldn’t have booked with this B & B if I had known our room would be given away. I specifically remember seeing the room that we did get and thinking “I definitely don’t want that one”. I had booked nearly 4.5 months in advance of our trip so most rooms were available at that time.... I was really disappointed and it really ruined the day for us. The room was tiny, smelly and cramped. It felt dirty and there was barely any light.…
Stayed in this delightful B&B for 3 nights . The warm hostess Virginia and her daughter Samantha couldn’t have been kinder. We had a very wet tent that was put in an outdoor shed to dry , my little dog was welcomed and they could not have been more helpful and charming. The B&B is a real Irish cottage style , beautifully clean and comfortable. There was even dressing gowns left out for us, Great breakfast, a real home from home. Highly recommend it.
We had a room upstairs with a great view of the ocean. They have a nice breakfast room with more great views. Hospitality was top notch. The hosts must own the farmland around the castle house because we had permission to go up the hill past the gate for great - i mean great sunset views. We stayed here for three nights and i would go back for sure. One caveat this is back down a few roads so beside Connemara park and the nearby Abby not all that much is close by. We chose to take the ferry to Inishbofin from Cleggan rather than trying for the Aran islands for instance. No regrets. There is plenty to do nearby such as the Renvyle beach and crazy beautiful drives through Connemara
on the grounds of an old castle that was raided by Grace o'Malley (Granuaile), this comfortable and quiet house stands at the edge of the ocean. the lovely hosts will make you feel right at home with tea and shortbread upon arrival, and they have some great advice for you regarding dining and sightseeing. there's a folder in the room with lots of helpful information too. the surrounding landscape is simply breathtaking. worth the trip!
What a fantastic location it is. Next to the sea and the ruins of an old castle. Lovely hosts, we felt more than welcome from the very start. Tea & biscuit and good tips for touring the surrounding area. The room was big enough with clean bathroom included. A very good breakfast with a view out onto the sea from the breakfast-room! You can take some lovely walks from the B&B and by car it´s not far to Tully and Tullycross for some good food.
Virginia and her daughter Samantha were as hospitable, friendly and welcoming as can be. The Olde Castle House has fabulous views of the ocean and is next door to the remains of a castle and it doesn't get any cooler than that! The room was simple, but comfortable and clean as was the bathroom. The living room was cozy and inviting with shelves of books available to those who may want to curl up on a blustery, rainy Irish day! The breakfast was delicious and filling. Wish I could have stayed longer than just one night to soak in the surroundings a little bit more!
