We stayed in the Dolphin Hotel in Inishbofin, now I need to break this into the proper categories. First the boat trip to and from Cleggan it's 30-40 minutes across. On the way over it was rough very bouncy but if you're nervous stay downstairs. On the way back it was so calm beautiful.
The Dolphin Hotel, I could say so much about this hotel and staff. Rooms were really comfortable and clean.
Food was outstanding OMG It was so tasty we went through the menu between the 4 of us and every plate was cleaned.
Staff were so friendly and helpful Pat the owner is hilarious and makes everyone feel at home.
The Island itself you can get around it in a couple of hours but we didn't have enough time to do everything we wanted because in Bofin, time is different (throw your watch away) it's Bofin time. Beautiful beaches, outstanding views it's a little bit of heaven on earth.
Do not put this on your Bucket list you will want to go again and again.
Love it.

You can't beat the warm hospitality and craic at this beautiful well appointed hotel. Proprietor Pat Coyne's sunny disposition no matter the weather will warm your heart rain or shine. In a pastoral setting facing the sea with the bleating of the sheep and gorgeous sunsets you'll be hard pressed to find a more serene, peaceful place to explore. Daily breakfasts, full or mini Irish started the day off right with a dose of laughter provided by the host.

Pat and his staff made us so welcome. The restaurant is first class and our bedroom with patio to garden was great. stunning view. We've stayed in all the islands off galway and dolphin house was the best accommodation we've had.

I read the reviews before booking and in hindsight I think overall they were a bit generous. There were pros of course:
Transport to and from the pier provided.
Pat the host makes an effort to engage with all the guests.
The food was delicious.
But that is where the good ends. Given the amount we paid for a 2 night stay off season I was shocked when we saw our room. There literally hasn’t been a penny spent on the hotel since it was built as far as I could see. Tired, worn, run down appearance. The cheapest most basic furniture and thin, transparent curtains. I’d forgive all that though if it was clean which it did not appear to be. The bathroom in particular would not make you feel at ease. Floor tiles lifting. A damp smell. Rust stains trailing below the hand rail, the cheapest shower curtain I’ve ever seen and a rusty rail it was hung on.
Being there off season but not off season prices as I’ve already mentioned left the place feeling completely without atmosphere due to lack of people about; both staff and guests. I wasn’t expecting luxury but I had thought maybe an open fire of a miserable September evening. No such luck. Lights turned off for the season in downstairs toilets and there wasn’t a notion heating of any sort would be turned on. I guess it’s a case of supply and demand. There is huge demand and only a few non self catering options so it seems they don’t have to invest too much as they know they will get custom anyway. Seems to me bofin has benefited from the pandemic and the increased tourism demand for the domestic market and boy have each and every business owner decided to capitalise. The island itself is beautiful and a walkers paradise. But from the lady who appeared at cleggan in a luminous jacket when we returned with her hand out for €6 (no signs on said carpark indicating the charges the day we parked) to the overpriced bar food in the only option on the entire island for lunch (days beach bar) food was lovely but so expensive to the price of the bikes we have definitely been and gone with a feeling of everyone you met were happy to rip you off and move on. So will we be back, probably not. Daylight robbery is not attractive and neither was our grim room for the price!

This hotel is very poor value for money and the property needs to be maintained and cared for better. The main person working here in June was the owner. He wasn't there when we arrived as he was picking up other people from the boat. We had booked in for two nights plus dinner for 330 euro and thought it would be a nice treat. Unfortunately that wasn't the case and it seems very over priced and not good value for money. The rooms needed to be renovated. The dinner and breakfast were terrible. He disappeared again during dinner so we were not offered desert. We left and went for a stroll and he passed us by in his van with another lot of people for his hotel and self catering options. The owner is plesant but perhaps has lost interest in this venture. Overall not to be recommended.

Lovely friendly owner, good breakfast, rooms could do with a little tlc. Views are stunning, location about 15 mins walk from the pier & bars/restaurants. Bike hire just across the road. All in all a lovely stay. Would return if bedroom standards were a little better.

Our second visit to Pat in The Dolphin and wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else. Comfort, lovely food, and made to feel so welcome. It’s the icing on the Bofin cake. You are one of the Bofin family and Pat can wizard up whatever is required at the drop of a hat. It’s convenient to the harbour, the fab beaches and walks and the ideal rest for the weary traveller after a day exploring the beautiful island.

Delighted with the hotel and the service during our stay. Pat was hilarious as he squashed 8 of us into his High Ace van and gave us a great introduction to the island with his sharp wit! The rooms were spacious and clean with a beautiful shower. Breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty. The hotel is 10-15 min walk from the Pier. Beautiful views all around. The ferry crew calmed my anxiety on our return home, when Pat hadn't arrived with our bags and everyone else was loaded. They said he'll turn up with a big smile at 3 minutes prior to departure, and so it was! Got loaded up and departed on time! Gotta admire his laid back approach!

We had an excellent stay in Dolphins Hotel, Boffin - June 2024. We were very kindly picked up by Hotel owner, Pat and the lovely Ruby who were both very helpful in getting us settled in to the hotel and making us feel at home. The room was spacious, spotless and comfortable. All the hotel staff were incredibly accommodating. Breakfast was excellent and served with a few great one liners from Pat! Overall, a brilliant little hotel on this gem of an island. We will definitely be back! Thanks Pat, Ruby and all in Dolphins Hotel.

Yes you can bring a dog if it is house trained, clean and sleeps in its own bed. You need to let us know in advance if you are bringing a dog as we only allocate certain rooms for dogs
