This is a lovely little hotel, Pat is brilliant craic, and there is always a great welcome, cosy room and lovely food. We have been coming to Inishbofin for over 10yrs now, stayed in other hotels to begin with, but once we found the dolphin we never looked anywhere else. The most relaxing experience anyone could imagine.
I read the reviews before booking and in hindsight I think overall they were a bit generous. There were pros of course: Transport to and from the pier provided. Pat the host makes an effort to engage with all the guests. The food was delicious. But that is where the good ends. Given the amount we paid for a 2 night stay off season I was shocked when we saw our room. There literally hasn’t been a penny spent on the hotel since it was built as far as I could see. Tired, worn, run down appearance. The cheapest most basic furniture and thin, transparent curtains. I’d forgive all that though if it was clean which it did not appear to be. The bathroom in particular would not make you feel at ease. Floor tiles lifting. A damp smell. Rust stains trailing below the hand rail, the cheapest shower curtain I’ve ever seen and a rusty rail it was hung on. Being there off season but not off season prices as I’ve already mentioned left the place feeling completely without atmosphere due to lack of people about; both staff and guests. I wasn’t expecting luxury but I had thought maybe an open fire of a miserable September evening. No such luck. Lights turned off for the season in downstairs toilets and there wasn’t a notion heating of any sort would be turned on. I guess it’s a case of supply and demand. There is huge demand and only a few non self catering options so it seems they don’t have to invest too much as they know they will get custom anyway. Seems to me bofin has benefited from the pandemic and the increased tourism demand for the domestic market and boy have each and every business owner decided to capitalise. The island itself is beautiful and a walkers paradise. But from the lady who appeared at cleggan in a luminous jacket when we returned with her hand out for €6 (no signs on said carpark indicating the charges the day we parked) to the overpriced bar food in the only option on the entire island for lunch (days beach bar) food was lovely but so expensive to the price of the bikes we have definitely been and gone with a feeling of everyone you met were happy to rip you off and move on. So will we be back, probably not. Daylight robbery is not attractive and neither was our grim room for the price!…
Had dinner in the Dolphin tonight. 2 teenagers 2 adults. Teenagers rated the burgers "best in the universe". Banoffie pie the same. Adults rated food superb. Apple crumble so so good. Great place to eat. Staff were so friendly and service was excellent. Highly recommend.
Overpriced food, my friend found a small stone in salad and when she told owner of Hotel he just made a joke about it ( not good enough) we thought we would get a free glass or wine or beer nothing, as we spent quite a lot of money there
We only had 24hrs on Inishbofin, but it did about a weeks worth of relaxation. So glad we chose the Dolphin Hotel to stay. It was great to be picked up from the boat and our room was big, clean and comfortable. Really really delicious dinner and breakfast. Kat was great at making us feel welcome, and give us super options for spending a glorious day on the Island. A very enjoyable stay and I'll be recommending it to all.
Didnt stay here as didnt know about it. Loved the restaurant -great room, great food and great view. Pat the owner is an excellent host and couldnt do enough to make you feel welcome. Would highly recommend visiting here !
We stayed in the Dolphin Hotel in Inishbofin, now I need to break this into the proper categories. First the boat trip to and from Cleggan it's 30-40 minutes across. On the way over it was rough very bouncy but if you're nervous stay downstairs. On the way back it was so calm beautiful. The Dolphin Hotel, I could say so much about this hotel and staff. Rooms were really comfortable and clean. Food was outstanding OMG It was so tasty we went through the menu between the 4 of us and every plate was cleaned. Staff were so friendly and helpful Pat the owner is hilarious and makes everyone feel at home. The Island itself you can get around it in a couple of hours but we didn't have enough time to do everything we wanted because in Bofin, time is different (throw your watch away) it's Bofin time. Beautiful beaches, outstanding views it's a little bit of heaven on earth. Do not put this on your Bucket list you will want to go again and again. Love it. Sean D…
Our second visit to Pat in The Dolphin and wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else. Comfort, lovely food, and made to feel so welcome. It’s the icing on the Bofin cake. You are one of the Bofin family and Pat can wizard up whatever is required at the drop of a hat. It’s convenient to the harbour, the fab beaches and walks and the ideal rest for the weary traveller after a day exploring the beautiful island.
Pat and his staff made us so welcome. The restaurant is first class and our bedroom with patio to garden was great. stunning view. We've stayed in all the islands off galway and dolphin house was the best accommodation we've had.
