Murrays' Doonmore Hotel, the most westerly island hotel in Ireland, was built in 1969 and has been owned and managed by the Murray family ever since. We pride ourselves on our hands on approach to customer service so you will be dealing with a member of the family at most stages of your stay. We care about what we do because it is not just a job, it is our life. Our friendly staff are superbly trained and they know that our raison d'etre is to ensure that every customer, from a child ordering a hot chocolate to a group of adults staying for a week, deserves only the best service possible. Our hotel and bar food is famous for its freshly caught seafood and its consistently high quality and value for money. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and warm. The atmosphere is welcoming, homely and relaxed. It is no accident that we have a large percentage of repeat business stretching back to the early days. The proof of the pudding is in the eating (and we bake all our own!) So come out and visit and experience Murrays' Doonmore Hotel for yourselves. Andrew Murray

We managed to book a couple of nights at the Doonmore again this year. We have stayed here a good few times before and there’s so many good reasons why we and many others return to Inishbofin and this wonderful hotel.

Andrew, Donna and all the brilliant staff are the most attentive, accommodating and friendly people you will come across in this part of Ireland. From the minute you set foot off the boat your bags are attended to and it’s immediately apparent that all the stresses of everyday life have been left firmly on the mainland.

The hotel is a short stroll heading west from the main harbour. It’s a lovely peaceful area that is the ideal starting point for a walk around the west quarter loop, a very picturesque and dramatic coastal landscape. Inishbofin itself is a gem of a place and a must-see when visiting Connemara and the west coast of Ireland.

All rooms are a good size with all the amenities you could possibly need and are spotlessly clean, it’s also perfect for families like ourselves. The food in the restaurant and bar is always of a high standard - fresh produce from the surrounding area and of course the seafood is always excellent. The Guinness is also sublime - I doubt you will find a better pint in Ireland!

All the staff have adapted brilliantly to all the challenges that have arisen due to Covid restrictions this year and have made everything feel comfortable and very safe.

If you’re thinking of staying on the island for any length of time to unwind and get away from it all, I would strongly recommend a stay at the Doonmore hotel. It provides a truly unique and unforgettable experience.

Thank you all at the Doonmore once again and we hope to see you again very soon!

Just back from another wonderful trip to Inisbofin. A trip to Boffin is truly good for body and soul and staying at Murray’s is just the icing on the cake. We were blessed with lovely weather and made the most of it with walks around the island and swimming at the many bleachers Boffin has to offer! Murray’s is a lovely family run hotel. Spotlessly clean rooms... felt totally safe despite covid. Delicious food with really quick service. Best pint of Guinness in the west! The staff are so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble... you could actually see the smiles behind the masks! Really thought that without the fantastic music that Murray’s usually have in the bar that our trip would not be the same but some musicians actually started a seisiun outdoors on our first night. The hotel is perfectly located for walking and swimming and at just a short walk from the pier it is the ideal location for a stay on Boffin! Thankyou to all at Murray’s 🙏🙏
We will definitely be back.

We stayed in the hotel in September and emailed ahead advising that we are vegan. We arrived off the ferry on a gorgeous day and our bags were taken to the hotel for us and we happily strolled to the hotel at our leisure (transfer was offered). We were ready for lunch and ate at the outside tables with a local chicken who recognised that we were vegan and felt safe. We were checked in at 3 after a lovely walk around the west of the island which was just stunning. We had booked dinner and had the two vegan options which were excellent. On the following day the chef, Marius, made us two new vegan meals which were first class. We had four to choose from but went with the specially prepared cauliflower steaks with pesto and butternut risotto. Fabulous food and the staff made us feel so comfortable and welcome. We could not recommend this hotel higher. First class service from every member of staff and total adherence to all Covid 19 rules. Our first trip will not be our last!

And I am not happy to score this place as such because other than a terrible night sleep everything was perfect. We were given a room located near 2 lounges, close to the guests bathrooms and near their restaurant. There was an awful lot of traffic of people coming and going, we could hear people having drinks in the lounge, we could everything coming from the bedrooms at either side of ours as the walls were so thin..We did not sleep.. These rooms should not be sold at the same price as other rooms for that reason, they should not be sold at all. We were late booking it but that is not an excuse. These rooms are number 9 to 12.

A part from that, I have to say they really are on the ball in terms of Covid precautions and everything is organized for you to feel so safe from the reservation stage with details on how check in and check out will be done, storing luggage etc They are also so well organized with the luggage situation as they come and collect you or your luggage only, at the ferry terminal and that is brilliant as no time is wasted when you are on the clock on the island. Same on check out, you can just leave you luggage at the hotel and they will they bring it to you at the ferry and that was priceless so we could fully enjoy our morning before heading back on the boat.

Dinner and breakfast were good and simple and again organized in a very impressive safe way with EVERYBODY wearing a mask. The place has a lot of character and we had a chat with the owner (Andrew?) who told us about the history of the hotel and that was great; lovely that they managed to keep that authentic charm and back in 1969 the place was probably very similar. They are located in a very beautiful spot and at reasonable walking distance to a beautiful beach if you wish to enjoy it like we did before heading back on the boat in the morning.

The room was of good size, no bad surprise; it was basic but comfortable and very clean and pretty much like we expected based on their website.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and the day we stay there again I will remember to request a room that is not located on the ground floor and as far as possible from the lounges, restaurant etc Great team there and you can tell they are all happy to be working in such a place.

Dear Fraochoo, The title of your review is very misleading. However, I note with delight that you are so very positive about everything else; the way we have organised our business re. covid precautions and that you recognised our staff are excellent and felt safe right the way through your short stay with us. We have placed the utmost importance on the safety and comfort of our guests and adhere strictly to the regulations while at the same time, our fantastic staff work extremely hard to ensure everyone feels welcome, comfortable, and safe. Our food has received outstanding comments all this season, a lot more than ‘good and simple’ to be fair! Back to the misleading title: Firstly I am terribly sorry that you didn’t sleep well. The vast majority of our guests regularly comment on what a great sleep they have here, several this season already asking where we bought our mattresses as they are so comfortable! Just for the benefit of other readers: There is no residents bar, again due to our strict adherence to covid guidelines, and all guests are asked to vacate the public areas by 11pm. I realise a lot of guests bring their own alcohol which is something we cannot control but we are very strict regarding what, when and how we sell alcohol to guests, sticking rigidly to the regulations, even more strictly than the regulations in fact. If there are some hotel guests that have been out for dinner elsewhere and return a little later because they have to walk home, we unfortunately cannot police their sound levels as they walk to their room, that is the same in every hotel in the world, but not that common here thankfully, as the vast majority of our guests choose to dine here. I say your title is misleading as there are no other rooms in the whole hotel even close to a lounge so to claim it is “a very noisy place” is totally incorrect, extremely misleading and portrays a very unfair impression of our very well managed hotel, based on a one night first time visit. I can assure you the walls in the room you stayed in are solid block walls, with the exception of the wall at the head of the bed which is in fact a two and a half foot thick rendered stone wall! I do not for a minute doubt your claim that you heard some noise from the lounges, and I am sorry for that. However, your review is potentially off putting, and you are not really in a position to make an assessment about the sleep quality of guests in the other rooms as you did not stay in them, let alone to suggest that we shouldn’t even sell these rooms! As our staff finish earlier these days, there isn’t always someone on the floor much after 11:30pm but there was a telephone in your room with which you can call a member of onsite management 24/7. Unfortunately, you didn’t do this, so we were completely unaware that you had an issue. As stated previously, we cannot police people 24/7 and there is an element of personal responsibility on both your and their side to be considerate of others, to make other guests aware if they are being noisy (at any time of the day) and to resolve any issue around noise yourselves. If anyone is uncomfortable doing that then it is imperative that you make a member of staff aware of the problem. This is all just by way of explaining the situation for you and people reading your review. I really do appreciate your honesty and that you found everything else about our business so exceptionally good. I look forward to your return visit when you will see that the negative element of your first experience is not at all typical and that 99.99 % of people who stay with us have a thoroughly enjoyable time, and a great night’s sleep.

Doonmore Hotel and Inishbofin were recommended to us and it lived up to our expectations. A simple family run hotel managed quietly and extremely well by Andrew Murray, his family and team.
Rooms simple but have everything you want and spotlessly clean, great home cooked food with daily specials, very attentive staff who are very helpful.
We will definitely be back!! Especially when the music is allowed again which we are told is a real treat!!!

Dear niallo529, Thank you so much for your great review. It was great to welcome so many first-time visitors this year, all of whom seem to be determined to make a stay in the Doonmore an annual event now, joining our huge number of repeat guests. It was lovely to get to see our island and our own business through the perspective of so many fresh eyes. It has given us renewed enthusiasm for what we have to offer and we look forward to welcoming you all back again soon. Regards, Andrew

My wife Kathleen and I wanted to visit Inishbofin where my ancestors emigrated from in 1870 and we chose the Doonmore for it's remote location heading to the western side of the island. The view over the sea is unmatched and it seems like you are staying literally on the water as we peered out from room # 1 in the original part of the hotel. En-suite with a large bathroom and very comfortable bed, of course the TV got no joy from us. Never turned it on, why would you? Waking up you can hear the seagulls and a far off fishing boat making its way out to the shoals of herring, or so it seemed to me. The smell of amazing meals wafts up and down the road as yo approach the hotel after morning hikes and walks and the staff do not disappoint. The fresh fish on the menu and the grass fed steak were delectable and unforgettable. Professional yet very personal, we felt like we made friends that we can visit again and be remembered. If there was ay disappointment it was that no LIVE music was yet available ( state covid restrictions ) but that will only inspire another visit as the Doonmore is widely known as one of Ireland's best places for traditional music and stories to be shared. The communication from the hotel in emails as we prepared for our visit from 3000 miles away was tremendously helpful and confidence building in us that we were about to experience something very special in our stay. And indeed, we did. Thank you Andrew, Donna and the staff for an extremely satisfying experience in our first visit to Inishbofin. I also want to give a shout out of thanks to the hard working servers who were always pleasant and helpful, full of wit and charm. Finally another wonderful facet is meeting and sharing with other travelers - many exploring their own ancestral connections to this powerhouse of an island that gave so much to emigration from earlier times. This visit will not will not be our last.

Dear Michael & Kathleen, Thank you for your amazing and very comprehensive review. It was a pleasure to have you staying with us and I am so happy that you enjoyed your visit so thoroughly. It was very obvious that you settled into island life easily and were enjoying the place every day, I guess it's in the genes! Our guests love so many aspects to a stay in the Doonmore: our staff, the food, the views, the music (both live & playlists), the hospitality, comfortable rooms etc. One other really lovely aspect, that really isn't in our control at all, is the banter that guests have amongst themselves. With so many regular guests, it is like they welcome new guests to the hotel as much as we do, telling stories of years gone by, filling in the info on our family and introducing people to each other and to locals. It all adds up to a wonderful atmosphere that is a pleasure to be part of. I have no doubt that we will see you both again and I really look forward to welcoming you back. Regards, Andrew

Working on the frontline myself, i fully appreciated the consistency and respectful manner covid restrictions were carried out in Doonmore hotel . Respect for their customer and their community . Food is delish and we ate our three meals of the three days in Doonmore hotel. Different every day but high quality each time . Deserts would need a whole other review, just pure class .Staff were spot on and Donna keeps a good eye to a smooth running ship. As for the rooms ,spotless and covid was not used as an excuse to reduce service in this area . Andrew and his team know their customer and adapt accordingly ,leaving everyone feeling comfortable and lucky to share such a wonderful haven as Bofin .

Dear carmelo315, Thank you so much for your excellent and very considered review. As you so rightly observed, we put a lot of emphasis on implementing the restrictions fully but in a manner that minimised the disruption to our guests enjoyment and comfort. At the heart of all decisions was indeed respect for our customers and especially respect for our community, doing everything to keep everyone as safe as we possibly could. I really enjoyed our chats and look forward to your return in 2021, regardless of the conditions, we know we can still provide our customers with an enjoyable holiday, great food and top class service, exactly what you all deserve in these tough times. Many thanks, Andrew

From the minute we got of the Ferry and were met by Andrew who brought our bag to the hotel (we opted to walk) until we left Inishbofin we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Andrew, Donna and all the team at the Doonmore Hotel are so friendly, helpful and attentive. Check-in is so well organised in these difficult times and the dining areas are really well spaced. Our room with a sea view was perfect and the food is magnificent. Top marks to the chef. Actually top marks to team Doonmore. We are booking again soon.

The staff couldn’t be more helpful or friendly, the rooms were comfortable, fully equipped and even in this nightmare of Covid they still managed to keep them clean.

Anything you asked the staff wasn’t a problem!

The food in the restaurant... have the crab claws...AMAZING!

It’s the perfect location, right on the seafront, and with a 15 minute picture perfect walk you reach one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

We can’t wait to go back!

Dear Harriet71, Thank you so much for your great review. Our crab claws are world famous but unfortunately getting more and more scarce due to overfishing by large mainland boats. Luckily we have plenty of other seafood on the menu! Trá Gheall is indeed one of the most stunning beaches on the planet and the walk to is one of the most scenic in the country. We are very lucky to be so close to such incredible natural beauty. I have no doubt we'll see you in 2021 and we look forward to providing the same great food, service and hospitality.
