Just back from a two night stay in this lovely hotel. It's situated in a quiet area but it is a very good base for exploring Connemara. The rooms (especially the beds) are very comfortable and the food is simply delicious. Very friendly staff and really helpful. The hotel is very Covid Compliant and risks are definitely minimised as there is hand santiser everywhere and there is even a bottle left on every table in the bar. All keys are santitised at reception before they are handed to you. Tables and chairs are cleaned between each use and I even saw the salt and pepper pots being wiped down also. We felt very safe there and we will be back. Thank you!

Carna Bay hotel is run by Mary and Karl who relocated from Dublin in early 2020. The hotel is dog friendly and it was a pleasure to be able to eat in comfort in the lobby area with our dog lying by. I fully support their policy of not allowing dogs into the dining room or bar areas. The room that we stayed in was basic, however it had all the essentials and was very clean. The food in Carna Bay (Breakfast, lunch and dinner) was exceptional and much credit to Karl for the level of freshness, variety of choices and the really great value for money.
The staff are extremely friendly and absolutely nothing is a problem to them.
We stayed there for 3 nights and will stay for longer the next time and I’m already looking forward to the delicious food. Well done to Mary and Karl. Look forward to seeing you again.

I stayed a Friday/Saturday night in this beautiful hotel the second weekend of September. This is a gem of a hotel. The location is beautiful. The food is outstanding. The staff are super friendly and helpful and nothing is a problem. It's also Pet friendly. To escape into Connemara for a weekend was a gift to myself and to show a friend the beauty of Connemara. We were not disappointed. My friend was blown away by the scenery of the place, and then also the high quality of the food that was served at the Carna Bay, as it came as an unexpected surprise. The bed was super comfortable also. A late night walk that far west is an experience everyone should try. The smell of turf burning is delightful . Mary & Karl the new owners who only took over this place last Feb/March 2020 just before the first lockdown, deserve to be supported. Given the chance I will definitely get back to visit again.

I and eight friends spent three nights in Carna Bay Hotel. We have been going to this hotel for at least fifteen years and many times twice a year. Obviously, we liked it.

But this year we were subjected to such regimentation and control that it became intolerable. Each dinner was interrupted by one or other of the owners. The first night the problem was that one of our group did not show. There was no polite cautioning that the bill would have to be paid. It was straight up – the room could have been let twelve times over, threatening, referring to the policy, they are running a business etc. This guest had been ill, arrived the next day and paid the full amount without quibble.

One of our group was having a problem about wearing his mask in the public area of the hotel. I did not witness any of the interactions between him and hotel staff, but it began to seem that he was being persecuted. A huge issue was being made of it and during dinner on second night the same owner summoned a member of group outside.

She complained to this third party about J and wanted her to sort out the problem. On the third night, again at dinner, J had left to make a phone call and was accosted by the other owner for no mask who called him back and attacked him verbally.

Our group is made up mostly of 60 and 70 year olds. Many of that generation suffered at the hands of bullying and abusive teachers. We do not tolerate that any more. Words were exchanged and J was going to be asked to leave. He wanted to leave immediately and proceeded to pay the bill. At first they wanted to charge him for the third night but in the end he stayed and the hotel decided that their policy could allow them to waive the fee for the night – the night they were throwing him out!!

I told the owner on checking out that that was the worst experience we ever had in any hotel. Her response was certainly not conciliatory. She said we were the worst group she had ever had. When I pointed out the inconsistency of their treatment of J and a funeral group in the foyer the previous day most of whom were maskless she denied it completely. I think J deserved an apology but I could see that it would have been pointless to ask.

Not once during either of our stays were any pleasantries exchanged between us. All interaction between us and management was negative, aggressive, and in some instances confrontational.

Carna bay is set in a beautiful setting but I'm afraid that's all its got going for it. The owners unfortunately have a lot learn about hospitality. Never will I attend any function here again. We were told to be quite our children were told to be quiet guest were sleeping at 7pm in the evening. The service was poor. And when we asked for our cake to be cut for our guests we were told the kitchen is closed and we not dirtying dishes to serve your cake. How hospital after having a party there all day when the cake should have been served after the food that was very poor. The soup was the only good only thing of the day.

The hotel has been refurbished and decorated beautifully. Mary is a clean freak so you will not stay in a cleaner hotel in Ireland!! The rooms were sanitised and sealed when we arrived. Karl is a fabulous chef and everyone was delighted with the high standard of food delivered at every meal. There were 3 coeliacs (children & teenager) in our group and he got in additional food items for them. The hotel is a short drive to many beautiful beaches and the group went kayaking. Absolutely fabulous.

with comfortable room and very helpful staff. Bathroom a bit old, but immaculately clean. Excellent and tasty choices in the restaurant. Everything spic and span. If you require WiFi in your room, request a location near reception as it doesn’t reach much beyond that. Wonderful stay.

My wife and family of four kids visited the carna bay hotel in early july, we had to dine outdoors due to restrictions. The outside dining area only had two parasol to cover approximately eight or ten tables, as luck would have it, as we sat down to order it started to drizzle. When we asked if we could use the other parasol we were told that another family had a booking for later on and would need it, but have us blankets. That aside the food was absolutely georgous and well worth the price. We got the wings, garlic bread and breaded mushrooms. The wings and garlic mushrooms were divine. My wife and kids had chicken and beef burgers while I had the lamb shank, which was out of this world melt in your mouth cooked to perfection. We had chocolate fudge cake, baileys cheesecake and a selection of ice cream for the kids. If management were to consider roofing there outdoor dining area I'm sure it would pay for itself very quickly given the quality of food this place serves. Will defo be back on our next visit to carna.

As a result of reading a review in a national newspaper we booked a three night stay at The Carna Bay Hotel. We had never been to Carna before. When we arrived, what a surprise? We found a lovely friendly family run hotel. Absolutely spotless in every aspect. The restaurant/ bar food was excellent, if the menu may have been slightly restricted, presumably a restriction. What was available was very well presented and cooked to perfection, a blue stake can be difficult, the seafood too was faultless the chef was obviously on top of his game.
The room had comfortable beds, spotlessly white duvets and tea and coffee facilities.
One of the hotel's best assets were the staff. The servers and bar staff were so friendly and efficient the whole time. Nothing was ever a problem and always with a smile behind their masks.
Several beautiful white beaches minutes away from the hotel
Congratulations to the Rogers family, we couldn't recommend Carna Bay Hotel enough.
On our way home we booked again for October ...... Can't wait !!

Attended a family function here yesterday.. service was very poor. Was not impressed.. requests made by hosts, were not met.. no plain ham sandwiches, no cake cut, cuz dey werent dirtying dishes, and also was requesting €2 service charge per slice.. may I add.. seriously... d finger food was brought out with d soup, which was ment to come out in d evening time.. which was very scarce by the way.. The kids were told a few times to be quiet.. they were by no means misbehaving.. hosts were told they cud not have a DJ.. the rooms you cudnt swing a cat in dem.. dey were so small.. they were happy to take our money all day tho until 10.15pm.. in return for this poor service.. would defo not recommend..
