After staying in several B&Bs during our vacation in Ireland, I can say that none of the others hold a candle to Kilmahon House. We stayed there first and were spoiled so much that every other place we stayed after that was a disappointment. First of all, Mary and Jeremy, the owners, are the nicest, most accommodating people you’ll ever meet. They will bend over backwards to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Second, the accommodations are top-notch. The remodeled house is wonderful, with modern amenities and luxurious touches, including fresh-cut flowers in every room of the house. The entire property and gardens are absolutely beautiful as well. In addition, the breakfast that they offer every morning is just delightful, with everything made fresh from scratch. From the homemade muesli cake, scones, muffins, and cinnamon rolls to the fresh squeezed orange juice, and everything in between, breakfast was delicious! They also offer homemade plum gin and port wine every evening in the drawing room, which are both amazing! We enjoyed our time at Kilmahon House so much that we would like to go back to Ireland as soon as possible, and just stay there for the entire time. …
I would visit Ireland JUST TO STAY HERE. The house is STUNNING. The grounds are GLORIOUS. Mary and Jeremy are FABULOUS. The food... Oh my goodness.. the FOOD IS AMAZING. Our rooms were unbelievable - we felt like we were staying in a five star accommodation with all the amenities. LOOK AT THE PICTURES. Mary and Jeremy were so incredibly friendly, welcoming, hilarious, helpful, lovely... we felt like we were staying with family and literally were in tears when we had to leave. We are going back to Ireland and staying there for more than the meager two days next time. (Honestly, I'd move into their shed if they let me.) The house was built in 1780 and Mary and Jeremy renovated it completely and are more than happy to show you pictures and tell you the story of that journey. This was hands down the very best accommodation we had the entire time we were in Ireland and we would recommend it to ANYONE (unless they are an awful person because we now feel a bit protective of Mary and Jeremy and wouldn't want to inflict anyone awful on them). The value was amazing (we paid less for our stay here than at another B&B and it was BEYOND better in every way. Port and gin in the drawing room each evening, the best breakfast in all of Ireland... YOU MUST STAY HERE. Every view is stunning. They even have good wifi. :)…
We revisited the fabulous Kilmahon House last week. This must be one of the best B & B's in Ireland. We were welcomed by Jeremy and we received a pot of freshly brewed tea and some delicious home baking in the lovely sitting room within a few minutes of our arrival. The peace and tranquillity about the house is serene. Mary and Jeremy present a breakfast fit for a king. They also give great advice as to , where to visit, what to do, best restaurants etc. We have visited many fine hotels but none have the ambience, welcome or hospitality that you experience in Kilmahon. We look forward to our next visit.
We stayed with another couple at Kilmahon House a couple of months ago and we've been tardy in posting this review. We shouldn't have been as we want the world to know how great a stay this is. We have stayed and dined various times at the famous Ballymaloe House nearby. Granted: Ballymaloe is more well known, larger, "fancier" by some accounts, offers the cooking school, etc. But in our view, Kilmahon House has many pluses: excellent and personalized hospitality by Mary and Jeremy; a small, intimate and yet casual setting in the beautifully restored house and grounds; large rooms and baths; amazing breakfasts (Mary is an accomplished and avid baker, but also prepares hot dishes); reasonable prices; etc. While there's a lot to do in the area (e.g. Old Head golf, Jameson Distillery in Midleton, coastal walks), the only reason you have to leave the Kilmahon property if you're just reading and relaxing is to take an afternoon or evening meal. And it's easy to find those fairly nearby, including a wonderful lunch at Ballymaloe. We highly recommend Kilmahon House and look forward to returning.…
I cannot praise Kilmahon House highly enough. We stayed for 2 nights whilst attending a wedding nearby. Mary and Jeremy greeted us with a delicious tea, including Mary's homemade scones and preserves, in their beautiful drawing room. This set the tone for a wonderful weekend. My sister and I shared a twin room which was large and beautifully furnished. We were blessed with a glorious view, through the shuttered windows, over the garden to the sea. The next morning we enjoyed a breakfast fit for the Gods. Juices, cereals, Mary's homemade compotes and a sideboard full of the most delicious baked breads and pastries. This was followed by an epic breakfast with a choice ranging from scrambled eggs and smoked salmon to a full Irish which included black and white pudding. We didn't need any lunch that day! As my sister had to leave very early the next morning Mary kindly kept me company at breakfast and was even generous enough to give me lift to meet up with the wedding party. Thank you, Mary and Jeremy, your amazing home and your warm hospitality will ensure that we will be back!…
