Over the years I have visited Heron's Cove...occasionally for meals but more often for Drinks on Balcony for the beautiful views. There were still some covid restrictions which were aware of and whilst we showed our Covid passes the Owner and her Assistant waited silently with their Arms folded in front of them. We were not made 1% welcome. It was the first time I had visited Goleen with My Fiancé .... everywhere else I was proud of my Father's Country...but not here. My Fiancé's Father was Jamaican and it was clear we were NOT welcome. I was in Tears with Anger later that night.
This is a real treasure. We were lucky to have a mini heatwave but it was perfect anyway. The mist stunning location. Small boutique B&B with five beautiful rooms overlooking the tidal creek. Staff were very kind and dinner and breakfast superb. I would definitely recommend it if you are in the cork/ mizen head area
We stayed four nights and really enjoyed our stay. The property is right on the water with a nice view. The room had a balcony where we could sit in the evening and relax. The people there went out of their way to make our stay good. In particular Irene and Bridie were the best! The restaurant is excellent and we ended up eating all our evening meals there as well as breakfasts.
There was a live earwig in one of our salads. Which was still included on the bill! I asked for a discount which was reluctantly given and the excuse was that they were ‘understaffed’ - there is no excuse for lack of cleanliness, ever. We will never return. Disappointing does not cover it.
Booked dinner here based on excellent reviews & beautiful location. However, despite the quality of the food which was undoubtedly excellent, the experience was marred by the service. We had booked our table for 8pm and arrived on time. Our starters were served at 9pm & our main courses at 9.45pm. We had a taxi booked for 10.30 so had to leave as soon as we had finished our main course. It was had to tell what the problem was, whether or not they had overbooked? Other tables appeared to be getting served at a quicker pace than ours! The food was really lovely but when you are paying up to €40 for your main course it’s not unreasonable to expect better & more timely service. What was a family meal to celebrate the end of a lovely holiday was not the event we had hoped for! Despite not a single apology about the delay over the course of the evening at least they had the good grace to take a bottle of wine off the bill. All in all a beautiful meal in a stunning location but we won’t be back in a hurry!…
Had read great reviews about this restaurant , but the experience was way different. There was no welcome, the food was basic , poorly presented and overpriced. Such a disappointing experience considering it was included in the Michelin Guide. I would not recommend The Herons Cove
We enjoyed a meal here as a family of four with two small children. We felt very safe and this restaurant has adopted the highest sanitary practices that I have seen during the pandemic. The scallops were divine and my husband's lobster was delicious too. Looking forward to a return visit.
The only highlight was the service was brillant. The food was extremely basic and way too overpriced for what you got. I don't know how this place got a Michelin star the food was below average not wow atall and no nice music inside the place and cheap wood interior very very disappointed we will not be returning!
Myself and my wife enjoyed our brief one night stay in Heron’s Cove on our early August 2020 staycation. Before we headed to Mizen Head, Barley Cove Beach and Crookhaven (Goleen a good jumping off spot for all these places) and Heron’s Cove was a nice little spot off the Main Street in Goleen for a nice dinner, great view out our window onto the cove (complete with real life Heron!) and a nice breakfast the following morning. Thumbs up!
We had friends from Donegal visiting so decided to tour West Cork, hitting all the beauty spots. I can safely say the meal at Heron’s Cove was the highlight. We had tried to book accommodation but no luck. We will certainly find another date to return on an overnight visit. The stunning backdrop is amazing, the staff were friendly & welcoming and the food was sublime. The steps taken to ensure safety of staff and customers were effective but did not adversely impact on the enjoyment of the evening.
