A beautiful old Georgian Rectory with self-catering coach house accommodation. We stayd in a lovely one bedroom flat in the former rectory stables. The flat was spacious, nicely decorated, came with all mod cons from a dishwasher to an iron and was immaculately clean! We were welcomed by Gill, the proprietor who had arranged 'rationings' for us -milk bread, that sort of thing, which was a nice surprise and it was fantastic to be able to let the kids out of the front door and not to worry about them. The garden was huge and there was plenty of room for them to play football etc. I would go back tomorrow !

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at this gorgeous country house as a little treat in January. It was like being Lord and Lady of the manor, guests are given free run of the house (two massive reception rooms) and gardens. Breakfasts are gorgeous and well thought out, who would have thought you could beat the traditional Irish breakfast (although this is also on offer). The rooms are all individually decorated by the incredibly arty Gill, some of her art pieces can be spotted around the house. The location is perfect for a relaxing week in the countryside, Ballinadee is a tiny typical Irish village where the traditional pub is still alive and well. Kinsale, Clonakilty, Cork city and some of Ireland's most beautiful countryside are all around waiting to be explored. If you want calm you won't be disappointed. We will definately be back.

My boyfriend and I booked the place as they are dog friendly and what a pleasant discovery!
Our room on the first floor was lovely with plenty of light and space. They have an outside area for dogs and our dog had a blast in there meeting other dogs!
Gill and Caroline made us feel at home and their breakfast is superb!
Just a few minutes away from Kinsale and the beautiful coast.

This big old country house and gardens are a beautiful retreat from the hustle bustle of daily life, and the proprietor is very friendly. Wonderful garden for playing catch, hide and seek with the children. Although safety might be an issue with very young children. Unfortunately the beauty and immediate appeal of the manor house and gardens quickly dissipate on crossing the threshold of the garden apartment and loft. We found the apartments to be neglected, with cobwebs and dust in abundance. It felt like both apartments needed a really good Spring clean. As is sometimes the case in old houses in Ireland a smell of damp prevails. In this case it permeates the wardrobes and drawers to such an extent that we decided to keep our clothes in our suitcases. The kitchen has all the basic utensils although the quality of cook's knives was poor. There were no sponges or brushes supplied for washing up (loft) and the one tea cloth that was supplied looked old and dirty, so we bought our own! Bed linen is "tired" and faded and the same applies to carpets, blinds and sofas. This is a property with great potential but at the moment in need of a lot of TLC. We were very disapointed as the coach house and loft fell very short of our expectations based on various promotional website descriptions.

Stayed in one of the upper rooms (called the blue room). Bedroom had lots of spiders and cobwebs, a lot of dust on surfaces , also damp smell from ensuite . Room nicely decorated but appeared to have not been dusted or cleaned properly.

Lots of variety on breakfast menu, lovely freshly cooked food. Staff friendly.
Overall this B & B served its purpose as over night stay, good food and friendly staff but more attention needs to be paid to cleaning of rooms.

Taking a short break, you will not find a more charming place to stay. It is old world yet modern in all its amenities. Caroline and Jill will not be bettered anywhere as hosts. Every whim is catered for. The food is excellent and believe me I like my food. Beds are extremely comfortable and one can definitely sleep well in this secluded but well located Country House. Kinsale is just a short drive away and if one is interested in having a quiet drink away from the hub bub of one of Irelands premier tourist venues, then Kilmacsimon Quay is the perfect place to while away the evenings. The locals are very friendly and a welcome word is offered to all strangers. On top of being a lovely place to stay with well manicured gardens. A great place for a romantic getaway, but one can also bring their family, friends and pets. Perfect.

We stayed in the upstairs loft apartment for a week in July and we had very mixed feelings about the place. Access to the apartment is up steep, irregular stone steps, ducking wet, overgrown bushes. Bit tricky in the rain. The apartment itself is very much in need of a renovation. In particular the carpet is old, shabby and in multiple patterns. There was an fraying offcut in the bedroom. Not only was it old and jaded but also musty and dirty. Other reviews which said this place was spotless were not accurate. The lounge suite looked like it had come from a 70s charity shop and was also musty and hard to get in and out of.

There are two double beds in the bedroom and the one we chose was comfortable and the linen was clean and crisp, but there was only a reading light on one side so that made reading in bed for me difficult.

We had to ask for a hair dryer and then I had the problem of not being able to plug it in anywhere near a mirror. There seems to be some sort of prohibition in Europe and the UK to using a hairdryer in a bathroom where you would expect to use it.

The village of Ballinadee is cute but the facilities are not what we had been expecting. The little supermarket is a tragic place with largely empty shelves. The 2 pubs which we had expected seemed to be closed. We certainly didn't venture in. Having said that the countryside and the gardens of Glebe House are lovely and the trip to Kinsale is manageble. it would be a nice place to come with your dogs and maybe the facilities in the B&B are crisper than those in the self catering apartments.

The information about local places and services which was supplied in the apartment was not what it could have been. For example, the wi fi password was not in the book so we asked for it. Our hostess wrote down the number but both my husband and I misinterpreted the handwriting and spent 2 days frustratingly trying to get online. This should have been typed up in the booklet so that we didn't need to ask and also to avoid mistakes. Others spoke of dinner in the house but there was no information offered.

All in all this is a place that could be sensational but needs some urgent upgrading and rethinking. One compensation for us was that it was relatively cheap for a 'supposed' 4 star, but if I had been paying top dollar I would have been very disappointed.

We have been touring the Republic of Ireland for two weeks with very diverse hotels. What a wonderful find Glebe House was!Comfortable and stylish, we felt as if we were staying in Downton Abbey!! The breakfast was easily the best we had experienced in all the places we stayed. It was clean, beautiful and had everything for a great stay! Don't hesitate!! Oh and two tips for good days out in the area = COBH and DUNGAVEN.

First impressions were excellent. Lovely grounds, lovely old house, but then we were taken to one of the 2 bedrooms on the lower floor. Small, and out of keeping with everything else. When we got into bed we realised that the electric blanket was on, for how long is anyone's guess, but it was very hot, and this was in the week when Ireland had had their hottest day for 14 years. We believe this was to mask dampness.

We asked about all this the following morning. All the other rooms upstairs were full and didn't we appreciate the warmth from the electric blanket. We were also told that it was too awkward to charge different rates for the upstairs and downstairs as you could not be sure where people were going to be located.

We won't be recommending this place to friends. The downstairs rooms should not be charged at the same rate as upstairs. That should be very simple to organise.

I stayed with my extended family, three generations of us, and we really enjoyed Glebe House and appreciated the hospitality. Breakfast was delicious, the grounds were well worth exploring, the price was reasonable, and the location perfect for exploring nearby Kinsale. Gill was a lovely host, and she went out of her way to be kind and helpful to the youngest among us (ages 2+). She also gave us smashing restaurant recommendations and excellent directions.
