Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked a few days stay via booking .com whilst the rooms were of a reasonably acceptable standard the food was not good at all the so called a la carte menu which charged €35 for a fillet steak both of which were inedible and poorly cooked and we’re changed for duck which was even worse (nothing but grease and very little meat) to say disappointed is an understatement. The following morning breakfast had what appeared on the surface a good selection whilst toast and cereal can hardly be of not good quality the cooked breakfast was as bad as the dining experience of the previous evening simply not good enough to warrant even considering a return stay .My advice is to avoid this venue at all costs as it is drastically overpriced and overrated.

My husband and I went here for dinner. We both got the fish and chips. We both thought they were fantastic! A light, crispy breading and a delicious sauce to go with it. The chips were great as well. I would definitely eat here again if we come back to the area.

Have stopped in a few times in recent months but won't be going again. The food is very poor for the prices charged. The final straw was yesterday where I was charged €17 for one carvery dinner. €17 is bad enough but the food was well below average, dry and tasteless to the point that all I could eat on the plate was the 2 slices of Beef. Yesterday in the Bagenal was the worst value for money in any restaraunt anywhere I've experienced in 40 years.

We decided to book this hotel for a Sunday night stay on our way back to Dublin. It is situated in a small town called Leighlinbridge, overlooking the Barrow river. We were checked in by Tony who set the tone for our stay with his friendly and efficient service. Our room was spotless and we had a side river view. Bed was big and very comfortable and we had everything required for a pleasant stay. The dining room was busy but managed efficiently and we just had a short wait for a table. Staff were friendly despite being busy and bar food menu offered a good choice. After a good night’s sleep we had an excellent home cooked breakfast which set us up for a bracing walk along the Barrow riverbank which is just minutes from the hotel. With friendly staff, efficient service, and good food, this lovely hotel is well worth staying in. We only wished we had more time to explore the gardens of Carlow, but a good excuse to go back to Lord Bagenal Inn another time.

The Lord Bagnal Inn was far above what we’d expected for a two night stay during a 5 day canoeing trip for 5 women. The rooms were large, spotlessly clean, luxuriously appointed. The hotel has many comfortable seating areas, interesting artwork, appealing decor. Breakfast was delicious, and varied; Karen and Kay looked after us so well; as did the staff in the bar/restaurant in the evenings for our really tasty evening meals. Leighlinbridge was a delight to explore. We will definitely go back again. Well done to all involved in such a great experience.

Always loved going here but since Covid it is very over priced for a very out of date menu. Serving French beans tied with bacon with a fillet steak in a rectangular plate , c’mon! The steak is good . The back ribs are the best thing in the menu but have almost doubled in price €6.50 to €12.50. Disappointed I went casually in and I got the burger. No burger is worth €19 and this one certainly wasn’t. Been a customer for over 30 years , let’s say 6/8 times a year I think that qualifies me as a customer often with a large party . I am gone . The whole menu needs some fresh thinking !!!! Sorry

Stopped here for some lunch as it was recommended by locals, to put it bluntly the food was disgusting and overpriced €7 for a toasted sandwich that was soggy and poor quality. Very disappointing, No condiments given and no service outside.

My parents have asked if I would write a review on their behalf . Eamonn and Margaret were attending my cousins wedding on the 14th of July . On Arrival they were promptly looked after at checked in . Each member of your team was very helpful and pleasant throughout their stay ,in particular your waiting staff . The Wedding party had a delightful day also . The decor and cleanliness are to a really high Standard, the attention to detail with flowers creates a personal touch .Overall they would highly recommend this hotel for a wedding or a short stay in Ireland . 5 Stars all the way . Thank you for looking after them . Catherine Geoghegan
