I can not make notes on how the property actually is, because I never made it to the destination. I booked yesterday through what I thought was the hotels website for $61/night + tax. When I received confirmations, it said it was through travlu. I received a call this morning stating the price was incorrect and that it should have been $79.99/night and that unless I was willing to pay that, the hotel would not honor the reservation. The price difference is not a large one, but the fact that the mistake was NOT made on my behalf seems like the original rate should have been honored. As well as the fact that I got online this morning and the rate is STILL listed at the $61/night. I called the hotel and asked to speak to a GM because the FD employee said she could not assist me, but she was also "not allowed" to let me know what time the GM was coming in or even his name. The entire transaction from the moment I made the reservation through the hotels site just to be invoiced by an agency, has seemed extremely sketchy to me. I would NOT recommend this location to anyone.

The Charleston Grand Hotel on Dorchester Road in North Charleston is a quality hotel that is very conveniently located next to the interstate and is a really good value for what it is. I have had a positive experience every time I have been here and it has been reliable and consistent place to stay.

This is my very first negative review ever, but I thought it is my responsibility to warn others about my terrible experience with this property. Used it as a solo traveler on a layover and stayed for two nights (actually only one full night as I had to catch a flight). Obviously, the low rates are a tell tale sign that this is not the best place to stay in town, so I did not expect great luxury by a long shot and was prepared for a less than ideal stay, but it was close to the airport and looked decent enough. What I was not prepared for, however, is what actually happened during my stay. As I mentioned I am a female solo traveler. I was on my way to a well deserved holiday and decided it would be prudent not to carry a big stash of cash around with me while I was exploring the city. I personally placed 300 euros in a hiding place inside my suitcase upon arrival at the hotel. The suitcase never left the room until I checked out and was never unattended until I checked it in with the airline and picked it up from the conveyor's belt upon arrival at my final destination, which was the point when I realized the money was gone. I am 1000% certain, that the money went missing from inside my room, since the ONLY available window between me HIDING the money in my suitcase and its disappearance was the time I spent exploring the city of Charleston briefly before my outbound flight. There was absolutely no other time this could have happened and I had been checking that very morning. To add insult to injury, the money was well hidden and whoever stole it from my room had to really search thoroughly through my personal stuff in order to find it. Needless to say, I find the violation gross. I spent the holiday obsessing about security instead of relaxing and having a good time. Since I was not there when the money went missing, I can not say for certain who was behind that. It was either the cleaning staff, or a total stranger breaking in. I find both options supremely disturbing. If the hotel can not guarantee guest's safety and privacy, there should be a big fat disclaimer at the very least. I know you get what you pay for, but the absolute minimium should be the guarantee that no one will break into your room and go through your stuff in order to rob you. Also, I was not alone in my grievances. I was told by another guest whom I had befriended that they too had stuff missing from their room. Shame on you Grand Hotel for ruining a perfectly good holiday mood. To all travelers please do yourselves a favor and stay somewhere else. I would hate for some other traveler having to go through what I did. (and yes, I did report it as soon as I found myself back in Charleston)

Upon entering room, there was a big puddle of water where the fridge had leaked. There were other bad spots on the floor (from previous water issues)? The whole "feel" was one of unkemptness. They were quick to send someone to clean up and fix leak, but it took time out of our day waiting on all of this. No offer to change rooms, etc. Had to wait to change clothes, etc. We eventually left and went elsewhere.
