My daughter has been working for Marriott properties for nearly 5 years, and from time to time, my husband and I have enjoyed using the family rate that is available to us. My sister and I planned a girls weekend to Charleston, and I booked this hotel well in advance with our family rate. After a day of travel and touring downtown Charleston, we arrived early evening to check in, only to be told by the gentleman at the front desk that the hotel was not honoring the family rate. If we wanted to stay, we would have to pay 4x the rate at which we had originally booked. I had received no advance notification of this change, and all he could offer was that we weren't the only ones who had been effected by this. I was given corporate's phone #, but even that manager was of no help, saying the hotel had a right to do this. I understand business decisions have to be made, but for them not to honor family reservations already made, is horrible customer service. I realize they're not losing any money by us not staying there, and at the end of the day, no one cares. But it speaks volumes about the people making this decision, their lack of empathy and consideration for their guests. We were fortunate enough to book another local Marriott property for that night, but still had to cut our weekend short. I read the bio of J. W. "Bill" Marriott, Jr. According to him, his management style is built on his parent's chief core value of putting people first. It seems that ideal has been diluted or lost as the company as grown to 6000 properties. Unfortunately, and sadly, in today's culture, it's the exception, not the norm.

This hotel is your standard Fairfield Inn and Suites and the accommodations themselves were comfortable and clean. The issues I had revolved around the staff and the training opportunities. I arrived at the hotel at 3pm on a Friday to be checked in. The General Manager, Brenda D was at the desk— there was a another woman at the desk but I was told it was her first day and she was training. Brenda was checking in a guest in front of me, and the process took over ten minutes in which a longer line developed behind me. When it was my turn, I explained I had reserved the room with the card on my app, but wanted to use a different card at time of check in. Brenda had a very difficult time deviating from what was on my reservation. At this point, Anthony showed up for his shift and she turned me over to him and walked to the next computer— strangely, there was no interaction whatsoever with the new employee she was training. Anthony very quickly checked me in, was polite and friendly, and I was off to my stay. Poor Brenda had to deal with an upset guest who put an expired card on her reservation and was told her reservation had been cancelled and the hotel was sold out. Why do people put a card they know won’t work on their reservation and then get mad when the hotel can’t honor the reservation? Again, the stay was fine with no major issues. However, I was concerned to see that the hotel had charged two of my credit cards for the stay- both the card that was on file as well as the card I presented at check in. Someone in the check in process had assigned me to two rooms- that’s a shame since I only had one reservation and they could have had a sell out with the lady who’s reservation they cancelled. I called the hotel, Michelle was very short and abrupt and said she couldn’t help me and to call back on Monday. I called on Monday and spoke to Brenda who said she was busy and if I could give her 24 hours to look into it. I called again on Tuesday and Brenda said she hadn’t looked at the issue- I explained what had happened and it needed to be corrected. A week later, I see she had credited the erroneous charge, but then re-charged my card for $287– not even the amount of the original charge. I disputed the original transaction with my bank and then called Brenda on Monday. I explained the issue again, the new charge, and told her it had been over ten days since my stay, that this was the fourth phone call to the hotel regarding the issue, that I had been patient and simply needed it corrected. From being overwhelmed at check in, to messing up a simple credit, it’s very clear that Brenda needs some help and training with the system. She was always courteous when we spoke, but the entire experience was not a good one. It’s two weeks since my stay and the issue has finally been resolved. Again, the stay was fine, but due to the issues with the staff, I would not recommend.

My husband and I booked a room directly through the website, paid in advance show up after driving 2 hours they have no rooms?! They did not bother to help us at all. They have no customer service. I would never ever book here again. The guy at the desk could’ve cared less. Call the 800 expecting they would put us up for the night considering this is their fault....oh no it can take up to 5 days. Seriously? 5 days it wasn’t my fault you all screwed up and clearly somewhere my room was sold to someone directly off of the street. I will never ever go back there hire new staff that actually know what they are doing and probably new management as well.

My family and I stayed here while on a road trip to the South. We were very pleased with the hotel. The showers have great water pressure. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. Would definitely come back.

We had a good enough stay at this property during a long road trip. We spent the day in downtown Charleston and then drove the 20 minutes here around dinnertime. The area immediately surrounding this hotel is very busy and contains lots of fast food, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, etc. And yes, there is a somewhat shady looking housing complex right next door, but we never felt at all unsafe. I found the staff to be excellent. Candace at the front desk was very accommodating, went above and beyond to personally ensure the pack n play for our daughter was all set up for us upon arrival. She was friendly, greeting guests warmly and referring folks to good dining in the area. They did a good job staffing and cleaning breakfast, as well. The property is fine, but the rooms are showing their age-becoming worn and dated. Our bed was very comfortable and the room was large enough. The biggest issue we had was that our room smelled TERRIBLE. It was a sort of musty dirty shoe smell that I believe was coming from our A/C unit. It was really honestly very bad. It was just a short 1-night visit so we didn't bother moving but I couldn't have stayed in that room longer than that. Breakfast was great! Lots of good options. In short, this property was fine for what we needed. For the price, I'd stay there again (but probably request a better smelling room next time!).
