I had four criteria for a place to stay in Charleston: 1). It had to be in the historical homes south of Broad. 2). Had to have accommodations for 2 couples. 3) The accommodations had to be historically significant. 4) Had to have good TripAdvisor reviews. The 21 East Battery Bed and Breakfast met each criteria and exceeded them. It... More

Thank you for the review, we are happy to have meet your criteria so that you gave 21 East Battery a shot, and that we exceeded expectations! The Quarters, which you stayed in, does show it's age and history of the grand house more then the renovated Carriage House. The stairs are original to the structure and you are 100%... More

Can't say enough about our stay. Definitely worth spending the extra to stay here. Julie was wonderful! This is not a typical B&B, so if you are hesitant give this a try! Great location and history. Homemade quiches, bread and cookies left in your room. We stayed in the carriage house, amazing! Would not stay anywhere else on our new... More

This was the best stay in the most charming city. Beautiful historic antebellum urban plantation in the heart of the east battery. The quarters were beautiful and comfortable, with plenty of space. The best service from the best manager, Julie L. She cooked plenty of food and provided plenty of provision for your stay. She was also a great resource... More

If you are looking for a quiet, spacious place, removed from Charleston crowds, that also happens to be part of a historic site, this is the place. Julie, the inn keeper, is bubbly, a great baker (we could not keep up with the output of quiches, cookies and cakes), and cares about guests. The inn's location in the Southern part... More

21 East Battery was the perfect get away. Our Inn Keeper, Julie was wonderful. I loved the history, privacy and location in downtown Charleston. We did two days at their sister location in the country, The Inn at Middleton Place, then two days in the city at this amazing venue. Would recommend it highly!

Had a wonderful stay in the Quarters at 21 East Battery. Debbie was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the grounds were beautiful. We enjoyed the tour of Edmonston-Alston House and it was delightful to be able to take an evening stroll to dinner and around the Battery. If you have the means, this is the best address... More

Just what we needed! Close to all the action and a quiet retreat at the end of the day. Delicious breakfast, including fruit, water and juice start your day. Cookies and cakes from scratch wait for you in the afternoon. What more could you ask for? Grab your tennis shoes and go see Charleston.

A great place to stay. Beautiful sunrise out of the ocean was breath taking. Julie the hostess, can never be replaced. Besides taking care of us in any request, she is a fantastic cook. Her morning breakfast was the best you could ever find. The pastries was stomach warming. Be repaired to add some weight if you eat all she... More

Don't miss this! 21 East Battery will add the most delightful element to your Charleston visit. The Quarters are the old kitchen and servant quarters behind the Edmondston-Alston House, a magnificent historic home owned now by the Middleton Foundation. The Quarters have been completely and elegantly remodeled with wonderful antiques, working gas fireplaces in both one bedroom and the living... More

We recently stayed in the carriage house at 21 East Battery for a weekend and had a wonderful time. We do not typically stay at B&Bs, but because this is a separate building we were able to enjoy our privacy as well as the perk of Julie's cooking. Her treats and breakfast were delicious and we particularly liked that we... More
