Our family had an excellent stay here for 4 nights. Great location, very walkable for downtown. Clean and updated, very spacious room. Housekeeping is limited due to pandemic, however front desk was very responsive to requests for additional towels. Great hot breakfast each day and super friendly staff. Valet is $25 a day, but lot directly across the street was much cheaper.
We stayed here on the Memorial Day weekend and enoyed our stay. The hotel has all their COVI19 procedures in place. They still have a hot breakfast though with fewer choices than you might be used to. The evening social did not happen, but it wasn't clear if that was perhaps because the hotel was pretty empty. Our room was very nice and the staff was very courteous and helpful. For parking, if you don't want to do valet parking, there is a pay lot across the street and a parking garage a block away for $18/day. The hotel is located one block off upper King Street, which has a lot of restaurants, bars, and shopping. It's also about a 20-minute, 1-mile walk to the heart of old town Charleston and Bay Street. We walked there several times and felt safe.
MLK Weekend stay at Homewood Suites was NOT something to remember. Who checks on whether the staff is properly restocking room IS THE QUESTION?? Upon check-in discovered there was NO MEDIUM POT (only large roaster pan and large frying pan) - one was finally found after 18 hours; while looking for medium pot, noticed "clean" dishes in cabinet were NOT always so - no wonder there was NO CUSTOMARY SMALL BOTTLE OF DISH CLEANER AND NEW SPONGE. With COVID situation one would expect Homewood to be on top of cleaning supplies. TV goes bonkers during AFC Divisional game (waited 20 years for Browns to play and now nothing but blackouts, red screen, etc.). Calls for assistance from staff saw problem continue. Asked to just CHANGE TV. Endless parade of staff and maintenance continues. No one will replace TV. Finally told manager we were leaving a day early. This Homewood Suites was mediocre at best…
I read reviews anytime I have to choose a hotel or buy any type of product. I also write them so I can help others make choices. I'm a Hilton Honors member, so we naturally gravitate toward Hilton properties. Because we travel there annually, we've stayed in multiple Hilton properties, some great, some not so. The reviews I read regarding this hotel were encouraging, so I chose to stay here for our annual trip to Charleston. I also read their Covid-19 cleaning policy and was encouraged by it. Before I begin, I should preface this by saying I did not report my issues in real time. In hindsight, I should have. I complained via Hilton's website, and have asked repeatedly for the hotel to contact me, and to this date, I haven't received any correspondence from them. We arrived on December 11th. I checked in, and initially was given the wrong room. My sister-in-law booked a room here as well, and somehow, they got us confused. Thankfully, my oldest son and I caught the error before we left the reception desk, and the issue was rectified. After we got settled, my husband and I went to the hotel's bar to grab a glass of wine. The bartender (I wish I could remember her name) was amazing! She was friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable. After our glass of wine, we ran some errands and returned to the hotel. I went to give my littles their bath and was disappointed to find multiple long hairs Caucasian hairs all over the tub and on the floor of the bathroom. Thankfully I traveled with bleach wipes, so I cleaned it up and bathed the kids. The next day, I went to the lobby to get breakfast. The gentleman who helped my oldest son and I was friendly and helpful. I really appreciated his help in alerting me (in a hilarious manner, I might add) to my son, who was distracted, almost missing my instructions. When we returned to the room, my oldest daughter showed me a Gatorade cap that my youngest daughter had found on the floor and was playing with. We don't drink Gatorade and did not bring any with us. The next day, when we went down to the lobby for breakfast, we were greeted by our favorite gentleman from the day before. However, there was also a lady there who incorrectly accused us of messing up the bagel/bread area. She made a few snide comments, and I wanted to respond, but my husband told me to let it go. She was rude, in my opinion, and I can't imagine how she thought it was us when we literally just walked over to the area. These issues might not seem like a big deal, but these are issues that I feel warrant attention on the hotel's part. Hospitality, in this day and time, can be stressful and challenging, but we all have to do our best to make others feel welcome and safe. I'm a nurse. I see people during some of the most stressful times in their lives, and I can't be rude to them or keep their rooms unkempt. I've been staying in Hilton properties for years, and I've usually been happily impressed. Way more often than not, I haven't been disappointed, but when I am, I let Hilton know. Corporate has rectified the problem, but again, I still haven't heard from the hotel. That disappoints me the most.…
The valet service at this hotel is outstanding! We watched the valet wipe down the steering wheel and doors of the car he dropped off to a waiting guest, and then wiped down the luggage cart for us. He was incredibly courteous and friendly. We had already checked in using the Hilton App, so headed straight to our room using our digital key. Although a little dated, our room was large and comfortable with a Keurig coffee machine, a large fridge, dishwasher, a microwave and hot plates. All staff members wore masks and there were ample anti-bac stations throughout the hotel. The breakfast was served in the restaurant and was a little limited due to COVID-19 restrictions, but it was more than adequate. The staff members throughout the hotel were always very attentive, friendly and helpful. Worth mentioning also is that there is a card/coin operated laundry conveniently located at the hotel. The only downside was the gym, which we felt had not been adequately cleaned. The sanitisation wipes were not easily accessible either. There are several wonderful restaurants only minutes from the hotel and most of the attractions are within walking distance too.…
