We enjoyed our stay at John Rutledge very much... The staff (Margo, Jim, all others) were extremely friendly and helpful, the daily breakfast was a great start to the day, and the champagne was cold. The location is also right where we wanted to be with easy access to various sites and spots in town. We will be back...
We enjoyed 5 days and nights at John Rutledge House Inn while vacationing in Charleston. As a signer of the Constitution, we enjoyed the history, the beautiful house, while staying in the Ashley Carriage house 2nd story King suite room #14. Breakfast in the Courtyard was delicious with ala carte option offered daily. The service, hospitality, clean and quiet rooms were complete with temperpedic beds and nice linens, a must for us! A small fridge, plenty of windows for lightening up the room, antique furniture, spacious room and dog friendly staff made for a great visit. We loved staying in the courtyard to relax and read, appreciated the help garnering reservations in the super restaurants around town. The location is next to St John the Baptist church which is gorgeous and the pealing of bells now and again so lovely. Not too loud ever!! Broad street is a busy street, but the courtyard and rooms were serene and quiet. Every afternoon, 4-6 was tea time, snacks served on individually wrapped plates with serve yourself the and lemonade in the lovely ballroom of the main house. COVid required us to wear mask in the house, and staff were diligent to make everything casual yet safe for us all. Linens and towels available when needed but no one came in the room while we were there, so we were ok with bringing our trash down etc. The locations is a few blocks down Meeting or Legare to Battery Park, short walk to any of the historical churches, the Market and restaurants. We drove to the pineapple fountain (Waterfront Park) and a small grocery was two blocks down for snacks. Thanks to Jim, Margo and Elizabeth (?) for being such great hosts and managers while we visited. The servers/cooks were so helpful and excellent too! …
We enjoyed our stay with history, comfortable temperpedic king bed, fridge in room, dog friendly and walk to battery park, meeting street and all churches close by. St John the Baptist Catholic Church next door rang bells often but rooms always quiet. We stayed in Ashley room 14 and loved the courtyard for breakfast, happy hour or reading. The weather was wonderful all week and the street quiet. Highly recommend! Price is a little high but worth it!
This hotel is a gem!!! We picked it due to its historical background but have been totally impressed with the hotel itself. It is impeccably clean and the staff are friendly and helpful with suggestions. Has a great location...5 min walk to the main touristy area and we were able to walk everywhere with ease. You will do A LOT of walking while in Charleston...we averaged 6 miles a day!! We stayed in room #3 in the main house and it was fabulous...large room with a nice seating area and cute table at which we ate the free made to order breakfast each day. Note that this room is close to the kitchen...never bothered us but if you are a super light sleeper it may. Water pressure was great and the hot water plentiful. Hotel also has complimentary coffee in the mornings and some alcohol in the evenings. Complimentary iced down waters on the back patio and in the in-room fridge. Also have bikes you can use to stroll the town and umbrellas for those rainy days. Do not hesitate to stay here...you will love it!!!…
This is a magnificent hotel in a historic mansion. The location is supremely convenient. I was much impressed by the professionalism of the staff. Afternoon tea in the ballroom was a delight. I will return soon!
