We had an absolutely lovely stay at The John Rutledge Inn! If you are looking for a bed and breakfast in Charleston that is in a perfect location (walking distance from downtown, but still in a quieter historical area) and provides superior breakfast in a beautifully restored home, this is the one for you. We elected to stay in a...

From the moment we stepped in until we left we had a flawless experience. The staff could not have been nicer. Both of the Concierge we dealt with were extremely professional and just a lot of fun. It was like sitting down talking with your best friend. The place is immaculately clean and quite for being right in the city....

This was our first stay at the John Rutledge House Inn and I guarantee it won't be our last. The location was excellent, within a 10 min walk to the bustleing action on Market Street, Battery Park and Rainbow Row. Afternoon Tea and Lemonade was served every afternoon at 4:30 along with Sherry, Port and light snacks in the Ballroom...

Charleston is a lovely, charming, southern town. Super amenable for walking around all day and eating and drinking in the evening, We stayed at J. Rutdlege House which is located in the French Quarter, right in the heart of it all. The Inn was magnificent, with many amenities including afternoon tea with an assortment of appetizers from one of Charleston''s...

We spent 2 nights in the Carriage House 1st floor! Would highly recommend! Room is beyond cool! Order your breakfast choices that can be served in room, outside in courtyard or in Ballroom. Food was very good. Hors d'oeuvres served in Ballroom in late afternoon. Great price for this kind of place and location! Room was beautiful!

The history behind the building is very cool. The fact that it was owned by a signer of the declaration is very interesting for a history buff. Throw in the George Washington part and that makes it better. The place is currently well kept up and the decor is nice. I enjoyed it.

My husband and I stayed in the carriage house of this inn. Located behind the inn with a beautiful courtyard, it was serene and very comfortable. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
America's Most Historic Inn. John Rutledge, one of the fifty-five signers of the U.S. Constitution, built his home in 1763. Now exquisitely restored, it is one of only fifteen homes belonging to those signers to survive - and the only one to now accommodate overnight hotel guests. History records that George Washington called here in 1791. An entry in his diary shows a breakfast with Mrs. Rutledge. A loving rejuvenation has restored the beautiful details of the home's 18th and 19th century architecture: the elaborately carved Italian marble fireplaces, the original plaster moldings, the inlaid floors and the graceful ironwork. The John Rutledge House Inn offers nineteen guest rooms within a complex of three buildings. One may choose between the elegance of rooms and spacious suites in the original grand residence or the charm and seclusion of rooms in the inn's two carriage houses. Antiques and historically accurate reproductions give each room its own warmth and distinction. John Rutledge House Inn is proud to be a founding hotel in Historic Hotels of America, as well as Select Registry - Distinguished Inns of America and Classic Inns of the South. Guests may leave cars parked on-site for their entire stay because the best of this beautiful port city is just beyond the doors of the John Rutledge House Inn. The city's finest restaurants, theaters, shops, and the Old City Market are all in short walking distance. The gorgeous residential area "South of Broad" begins directly opposite the Inn. A stay in this elegant antebellum bed and breakfast offers the opportunity to experience history as well as the warm hospitality for which the South is justly famous. ... more   less
