4 stars only because of the parking and parking price. This hotel will most likely be on our go to list when we visit this area of Charleston,SC. This was our second trip to Charleston, second to an Airbnb that we stayed in previously. I prefer the hotel. When you first arrive, it can be a bit off putting and I doubted it at first, but you can unload in front of the building, and the lobby is STUNNING. They allow you to check in at night, which was amazing, but call first. We added an additional night to our stay after the first night and had to change rooms, which was fine, but the long elevator rides to the top floors made me a bit nervous. The rooms really grew on me. Bring your own snacks, and sweets, but don’t fret too much. There is ice and a drink vending machine on the floors, but I would bring my own snacks. The AC hits just right for that fluffy, frozen sleep. Maybe I’ll give this place 5 stars after all. (P.S. Starbucks and Chik Fil A are a walking distance away) …
We decided to splurge and treat ourselves to the four star Francis Marion historic hotel. The hotel is a short walking distance to wonderful restaurants, quaint shops, and interesting row homes dating back to the 17th century. The staff at the hotel treated us like royalty and made us feel welcome like we were family. Their exemplary service included a surprise amenity delivered to our room, a birthday card from Michael (the bellman wishing us a happy birthday). Another big plus was our room had a spectacular view of the harbor and a brilliant morning sunrise. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant called the Swamp Fox. Shawn (the bartender) had great choices of local draft beer and told us his shrimp & grits was as good as any in Charleston. Shawn was 100% right about how good the food was at the Swamp Fox. We loved the shrimp & grits. The next morning we had breakfast at the Swamp Fox and told our server Sylvie it was Angela's birthday. Sylvie was so energetic to make sure our breakfast was a great experience and at the end of our meal she gave us chocolate covered strawberries with a birthday candle and sang happy birthday to Angela in her great french accent. Our experience staying at the Francis Marion hotel was totally enjoyable, and one we will always remember. Neil, at the front desk when checking us out, said it perfectly when I asked him who were some of the most famous people that stayed at your hotel and he said Elvis Presley and you. Sincerely, Tim & Angela …
Take a trip to yesteryear in the Francis Marion Hotel. The beauty and ambiance is so fun and relaxing. Dream you are going back in time to the bustling days of the growing city. The staff are so accommodating and ready to discuss anything you want. If your a bit shy the staff will take care of you quietly. The Swamp Fox restaurant is quiet, unassuming and quaint. When your Salmon, Shrimp & Grits, she crab or squash soup come......WOW! other dishes are great also. The entire staff are great and Bill at the front desk will take care of any questions or concerns you have. Take that trip to yesteryear bliss.
We had 30 in our group and were absolutely amazed at the quality of everything and the hospitality! From the first impressions of our bellman Javon, to the front desk (ready and expecting everyone in our group), to our accommodations. Incredible! The Swamp Fox Restaurant was amazing! Their hot breakfast each morning needs to be better marketed - it was incredible! The best dinner we had in town (and we ate at two other really good restaurants within a couple of blocks of the hotel.) Thank you Francis Marion!!!
First time staying here. Great Location, walk to all. Staff was extremely kind and helpful from the front desk to the lobby restaurant to the bartender to the Starbucks also in the lobby. Sizeable and clean room. Highly recommend this hotel. we had an overall wonderful experience and would definitely return to The Francis Marion Hotel.
