We went knowing the place was a little run down from other reviews, but the price was good value so we decided to stay at the George Hotel. Good points: the bedding and towels were clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, biscuits provided in the room, the double bed was pretty comfy, really good WiFi and toiletries provided. Bad points: We weren't pre warned that our room was going to be directly above a karaoke night which went on till midnight. We could hear it word for word and the vibrations even shook the bed! Couldn't even hear the TV above the noise. The windows are single pane (which yes I understand it's an old building) and the road outside is quite a busy road so if you're a light sleeper this may cause issues, however wasn't too bad with ear plugs in. Really thin toilet paper (you might wanna bring your own) All in all our stay was pleasant enough for the price paid and we went with the expectation that the place needed some work on it. But due to the noise issues, I probably wouldn't stay again.…
The room and property was dirty, and the bathroom room had scale and slime around the taps and shower. The towel rack was stuck on its highest setting, making the heat in the room unbearable. There was no hot water in the morning for a shower with nothing but an apology from the manager. The filth under the bed indicated that it had not been cleaned for years. A window was broken and paint flaking off the frame. The headboard was not even attached to the bed and the “jumble sale” wardrobe would not close.
If you are looking for modern boutique style this is not for you, if you like a bit of historic atmosphere slanting floors, corridors with character, we stay here regularly yes some of the rooms are a bit tired, but the linen and towels are clean, beds comfortable. the staff are always pleased to see us and our fortnight stay in September during restrictions made us feel as safe as possible. Breakfast had a great choice of main meal - varied for us over our stay, and because there was not an evening chef, we ate takeaway in the breakfast room with a beer. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The outdoor seating area was a great place for a beer and catch up- we were lucky with the weather.
Was visiting Stonehenge and stayed here 2 nights very friendly staff and lovley building inside is very rundown especially the rooms not worth the money no hot water wouldn't stay again which is a shame it could be an amazing place with some TLC
Stayed for one night and though hotel very dated and could do with a refit we had a comfortable night. Room very clean and Comfortable. staff very friendly and accommodating. Main bar in hotel full of charm. Breakfast was nice too.
