We were visitors to the area and were in town to go to the theatre and looking for a place for an early evening meal - nothing too substantial - We did look at the Stubbing Wharf as it had been recommended but we rejected it as just another poorly lit pubby pub with pub grub. The White Lion not...

Went to The White Lion on Sunday and the food was incredible! I definitely recommend here for a Sunday dinner as theres a good choice of meats and a vegetarian option too. All the servers were lovely.

We booked the hotel based on dog friendly and got room 7 in the courtyard. The room is perfect for a weekend break with your furry friend. The hotel is a proper country pub and the staff could not do enough to serve, provide excellent service and look after us totally. Stay in hebden bridge and enjoy the cafes bars...

We stayed here with friends for the weekend and enjoyed our stay very much. The Hotel is starting to look like it could do with a lick of paint but the food makes up for that. We stayed in Room 3 which was a lovely large room with a nice large Bath, but at £145 per night we would expect...

The White Lion has a pub type atmosphere with a real fire in the bar area. If planning a celebration you can reserve a separate room which is open to the corridor if you wish. It was very busy on a cold and windy Saturday where we went as 2 couples and a child of 7. Our drinks order was...

Went for Sunday lunch with my Husband and Father. The room we were sat in was very cold and uncomfortable. When the food arrived it was cold and then you would get a warm spot in the middle. The drinks were very expensive.

Visited for lunch with my wife, we had the Yorkshire platter, this came on a board with Scotch Egg (wow) pie, cheese pickles ect it was very nice, would have had something else but they seemed to have a problem with the gas supply and were unable to cook. We still enjoyed out lunch and will return in the future

Lovely hotel with lovely food. Stayed for New Year, bed was big & very comfortable, everything clean. Disappointed that bar closed at 11pm thought it would have been later with it being new years eve. Great place to stay though with lots of other pubs close by.

Second time I have stayed and was not impressed the first time largely because of the indifferent service and lack of leadership. Nothing has improved with a young, inexperienced team who don't really get the basics of operating a hotel. They are capable of serving good beer in a lovely pub but for £120 a night the rooms should be...

Checked in, went to our room (8) Spacious enough but in need of a refurb (Black mould in bathroom, flaking paint, loose wallpaper) Also in need of a clean, (cobwebs on wall lights and ceiling) No cooked breakfast available, when I spoke to the very young duty manager who I believe was called Tom, this was because the chef couldn't...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The White Lion is a traditional coaching inn; with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards. ... more   less
