Travellers' Choice
The White Lion is a traditional coaching inn; with exposed timber and masonry, an abundance of comfortable corners to hide in, and always a warm and friendly atmosphere. Set on a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge, the inn has always been well known for fine country ‘pub’ dining, and its extensive choice of wines and real cask ales. All of which can be enjoyed throughout the year, whether that be in front of a roaring log fire, or in one of our scenic riverside cobbled courtyards.

We had a lovely stay here, the room was beautifully renovated while still feeling old and historic. Location was great, very close to the centre of town. Only issue was parking, there are spaces but it's shared with pub restaurants guests. Staff were very helpful to arrange a space for when another guest left.

Popped in for a bit of lunch and we were all drawn in by the roasts available. We had the lamb and the beef and loved them both, along with the fab accompaniments. Roasties, Yorkshire pub, kale, parsnips, carrots and a bit of cauliflower cheese as well! The serving team were all lovely and Niamh was brilliant. We’re getting married in Hebden Bridge next year and all of our family are staying at this hotel. If the rooms are as good as the roast, we’re all in for a treat!

Booked 4 night stay to relax, explore the area and have a little comfort. Breakfast served only between 8 and 9 am so no chance to have a lie in. We had booked breakfasts. Lots of overnight stayers so great for that and an early start. This 1 hour window meant staff were busy and cold breakfast items did not get refilled so you end up repeatedly asking for items to be replaced. Staff were friendly but it felt uncomfortable to have to keep asking. 4 night stay booked. We were asked if we needed bed changing on 3rd day, we said it was fine. Came back to room to find wet towels just hung up to dry on back of door so damp towels in the morning. Room was clean and quiet. Hotel currently suited to early risers/overnight stayers. Not for a relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Staff park skew wiff so lots of travellers get blocked in or have difficulty parking.

Great food, outstanding service, well-organised Covid precautions. There are dividers between the tables to allow for social distancing, but there’s enough space for guests to dine in comfort. Table service was excellent and the quality of the food was excellent.

This hotel/pub is right on the edge as you enter the village. Several tables outside to eat and drink. The bar seating areas have Perspex dividers between tables, but there are several rooms off the main bar with good spaces for Covid compliance. Food was excellent. We both wanted the fish pie but unfortunately only one left (they’re made freshly on site). I’m told it was excellent. I had a huge Chicken Kiev which was also excellent. There are bedrooms in the main building, but we were given a chalet type room at the rear by the car park. The room was great. Secure, very clean with an abundance of toiletries and a good bath/shower. Breakfast was good and tasty.

Room Tip: Parking for about 10 cars at the rear of the building. Once it’s full, no one goes until the next...
