We’ve visited this incredible place twice - October 2020 and July 2021. Both times were unforgettable. The natural scenery is just amazing. So beautiful and peaceful. Lovely birdsong and marmots. The staff are all super helpful and friendly. Highly recommended! One improvement would be to provide more water dispensers and get rid of all the small plastic water bottles and disposable chopsticks.
This hotel is perfectly located near the ticket office for Labrang Monastery and a short walk to other restaurants and the shopping street. The lady who runs the place is super helpful and able to answer all questions about the area. The whole place was super clean and nice and quiet. The restaurant and bar was good value with a nice range of options. Unfortunately, when I was there the Tibetan chef was not working, so there was only a western menu. But that did include a yak steak, which was interesting.
During the October Holidays we stayed for two nights at the Nirvana Resort in Xiahe County. The resort is situated in the Sangke grasslands. It is run by a very friendly and helpful couple (Dutch & Tibetan). The views are amazing, it is like a fairytale. The resort has 12 nice cottages with a woodfire stove, quality beds with an electric blanket. Good food is served in the sky restaurant, especially the bbq, but also the mornings coffees and pancakes. It is highly recommended to bring warm clothes as it can be cold during the nights in the grasslands. The only minus; we did not have warm water for one day/night, luckely the next day it was solved.
Nirvana resort is located just outside Xiahe town (a 20 minute ride away) and it is situated in the middle of the grasslands. It's a beautiful place to stay and we highly recommend it. Big rooms with electric blankets and wood fired heater and a great restaurant with super friendly staff. I proposed to my girlfriend (and she said yes) at this resort and the staff supported so well. It was a great experience and we would defenitely recommend this place. Big thanks to the staff and owners!
The setting of this place is awesome. Not far from Xiahe but away from the tourist circus of Sangke. There are sweeping views of the grasslands, mountains in the back and with cottages right at the edge of a stream you can hear the soothing sound of the water. The start was very promising with the Tibetan owner (Who has designed the place and runs it lovingly) offering us great cappuccino. We then spent hours just soaking in the view of the balcony. We packed a picnic and trekked up the valley nearby to see yaks and nomads tents up close. After a memorable sunset from the bar cum restaurant which is located at a higher level, we settled down for some imported beers and then some great food with some local Tibetan dishes standing out. A hot water shower and the fireplace which kept our cabin toasty was a nice touch. The next day was a hike to the mountain and then horse riding which the owner arranged. All in all a great place which delivers nature and luxury art a price that does not bust the wallet. I would recommend strongly to combine a couple of nights here to combine with a visit to Xiahe.…
