My family stayed there from 4/4/21 thru 4/8/21 in two different ocean view rooms. According to the Shilo Inn website, the ocean view rooms were "newly updated. "I am not sure what their definition of new or updated is but our two rooms were definitely not "newly updated." The wallpaper in both rooms were bubbling and already starting to peel off in places. There was caulking around the room between the top of the walls and ceiling, giving the room a very cheap look. The bottom of the bathroom door was peeling, not sure why. There were holes underneath the carpet of unknown cause in both rooms. Both rooms had stoves but neither worked properly, one room had stove knobs that didn't turn, the other had a stovetop and front edge that were as hot as the burners. Neither stove had any markings on what knob controlled which burner or which knobs controlled the oven at which temperature, it was all guesswork when it came to cooking. The website says service for 4. We couldn't get service for 4 even when combining the utensils from both rooms. One room had a fireplace that didn't work properly the whole time we were there. When we arrived, it would "pop" on and off. Informed the front desk the next morning and supposedly they sent someone to fix it. We didn't use it that night because the room was hot from the electric heater (more about that next). When we did turn it on the following night, it wouldn't come on at all. We called the front desk and maintenance came up to repair it. By that time it was after 9pm and it worked, for a little while. We ended up turning it off again. The thermostat was either off or on high, no matter what setting it was turned on. At least our room had a screen door so we could open the sliding door and cool the room off again. The other room didn't have a screen door. The amenities list included a pool and hot tub. Both were closed. However, the hotels on either side of the Shilo had pools that were open. The only reason we stayed our whole stay there was due to the fact that there were no other rooms available in town. A positive note, the staff was friendly and helpful but there was only so much they could with the "newly updated" rooms. Housekeeping was limited as they were not allowed to do any room cleaning until after you checked out. If you ran out of toiletries or towels you had to call the front desk to have them brought up.…
I remember when Shilo's tag line was "Affordable Excellence ". Boy that sure isn't the case these days. Our room was affordable by coast prices however it was far from excellent. We chose a loft room and were assigned to #523 on the 5th floor. As advertised, the ocean view is "obstructed", you can see it but mainly you see the dirty roof. Well that is to say you would if you could see out the window! The condensation and grime from poor maintenance made this difficult (see photo). When we arrived the two small windows on the loft were open. It was odd that housekeeping hadn't closed but didn't think much of it until later when we tried to close them. They are rusted and inoperable. One side doesn't even have a handle because it was broken off. I asked at the desk and they said maintenance would take a look. About an hour later we are in bed and hear strange sounds. It's after 10 and dark. I go up to the loft and see a tattooed hand with what looked like an ice pick or screw driver pushing thru the window from the rooftop. After an initial heart attack I realized this was likely maintenance trying to fix the window. 😬 The poor guy says that the front desk was supposed to call our room and warn us. That did not happen. Eeeks! Anyway after he messes with the window he gets one mostly closed but the 2nd one just won't close. I tell him that was good enough for the night because it's late and I want to go to bed. The window didn't ruin our stay. Maybe I was just saddened to see such glaring maintenance issues and such a dated and shabby hotel replace the memory I had of this place being the best place to stay in Seaside. There really was a time you felt like you were pretty slick if you were staying at the Shilo. Sadly, I guess those time have gone.:(…
Totally disappointed with a well named hotel like the shilo. At seaside, checked into our room and looking around for cleanliness. Found trash and food under beds. Pills along edges of walls. Glad I caught the pills before my dog got them.Fingerprints on everything. Mirrors not clean. Kitchen...silverware,etc dirty. Cupboard doors was black around handles. Bathroom..hair on floor. Bathtub had hair in drain. Only 1 ply toilet paper. I work for a resort. Due to covid-19. Are standards and cleanliness for disinfecting everything is #1, for our guest and coworkers. I did, I came prepared to clean to make it safe for my family. Need staff that takes pride in there work and an inspector to go and make sure rooms are done right
Worst customer service ever ... checking out location for a large group event. Checked out within two hours of checking in. Staff did not want to know reason. Stated they couldn’t do anything about it and didn’t care.
I haven’t stayed here in years but decided to after seeing the remodel of the balconies in the past few years and that Mo’s is now their restaurant. But the pandemic has certainly changed the maintenance and upkeep this year. For almost $300/night, you get no maid service (you can call the desk and they will bring towels eventually if you call enough times - if they don’t bring it within an hour, call again) but no trash removal or vacuuming, lumpy beds, stained carpets, stained walls, torn bed skirts, dogs barking while people are in their rooms, ice machine broken, WIFI does not reach balcony, smokers on neighboring balconies with smoke getting into your room (no smoking hotel and it’s not just cigarettes), refrigerator does not work but clicks loudly all the time with repair requests ignored (again call if no one comes within an hour, call again), then refrigerator kicks out again within 6 hrs, poorly stocked kitchenette (no paper towels, no salt and pepper, no dish towels, no detergent for the dishwasher, interesting assortment of dinnerware for a room of four people: six mugs, 5 plates, three glasses and 7 forks but only 2 spoons, 2 bowls. Pool is closed per state order, and it is an interesting color of green with an oil sheen that can be seen from the lobby; very unappealing view. Plusses are right on the beach/prom by the turnaround, close to restaurants, Mo’s downstairs, close to the Aquarium, you can watch the bubble guy from the balcony, and a gas fireplace.…
