If you're looking for a nice place to stay while at the beach, this is it. The breakfast was good and the cook came out often to see if we were well taken care of. The desk clerk was nice and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable
In the busy tourist trap that is the beach front in seaside, the Gilbert is a great escape. It is clean and cute, the staff is attentive and the spaces are comfortable. Would recommend for an affordable trip to the beach.
This inn is a cool place - lots of character and history. If you're expecting modern, upscale accommodations, this is not the place - its over 100 years old and is full of creaks and squeaks, you can hear your neighbors or other guests in the halls, and there isn't a gourmet restaurant to serve your breakfast. We did not have these expectations and were looking forward to experiencing a quirky but comfortable historic inn. We did find the room to be quite comfortable - the bed was fine, the room was warm, the bathroom was...a bathroom. The West-facing rooms on the 2nd floor have a little bit of a water view. The rooms have been updated with some post-1900's amenities like a coffee maker, ceiling fan, wall-mounted TV, cable, etc. The TV, however, was just kinda banged up on the wall with a bunch of cords/cables dangling down. For us, it was an eyesore and took away from the charm that an historic inn should have. Great location - walking distance to everything. Parking is limited, but there seems to be enough spaces for each room. Dogs are welcome. A simple breakfast is provided which was fine - nothing super fancy, but freshly prepared and served by one very friendly and accommodating staff member. There's a gas fire pit out front with some seating around, plus a few other outdoor hangout spaces. We were disappointed with the quality of service upon check-in. Not that we need someone to run out to our car to help with the bags, but a friendly hello, welcome, or at a minimum some eye contact would have been more well received. We did arrive about 5 minutes before check-in time, though. By 3:00, there were maybe 5 or 6 other guests congregated in the lobby - none of whom were greeted or acknowledged. I get it though, working in hospitality can be a drag and everyone has an off day. We got the keys, parking pass, and relevant info, so mission accomplished. The room was clean enough, but felt either rushed or haphazard. Some dust here and there, door handle and light switch felt...tacky(?), some light bulbs were burnt out - nothing severe enough to make a complaint, but just kinda meh. Check-out was fine. Dropped the keys off with a different staff member at reception who was friendly, courteous, and polite. We may give it another shot in the future, but our experience was underwhelming.…
Clean[except the blinds were dusty] , comfortable well kept. Close to everything. . Nice that it's dog friendly! No mini frig. Which I thought everywhere has. Breakfast good but slow...people waited 10-30 minutes to get it.
Both my husband and I love this historic B and B! Some of the rooms are small but very nicely appointed and the bathrooms are a nice size. The staff Is very friendly and helpful and breakfast was very tasty! This place is very affordable and a gem in Seaside!
