We liked the Mark Spencer. Not a luxury hotel, but still a solid choice. Room was clean, we had a nice kitchenette, and the place had some history (was opened in 1907 as the Nortonia). I liked the breakfast; adequate and I loved the coffee machine (can make a coffee, latte, hot chocolate, mocha, etc.) Nice touches like free cookies...

Enjoyed my stay - good size apartment with kitchenette. Some musty odour when you walk in but not noticeable when you open the windows. Good variety for the continental breakfast with good coffee machine with options. Tea served in the afternoon with cookies and a wine tasting from 5-6 pm provided a nice personal touch. WiFi is free and dependable...

Wonderful location, service and hospitality at this hotel! We were looking for a family friendly place in the downtown district with an reasonably priced suite to accomdate our two-year old child. The Mark Spencer fit the bill. The staff placed a crib upon request in our Jr. Suite (with separate room) and our daughter slept well the time we were...

Very nice hotel. Their location is in the heart of the Pearl District, close to many restaurants, shops, and the various modes of transportation that Portland offers. Our Std Queen room was upgraded (not sure why) and the king suite was roomy, comfortable and a nice surprise. Only complaint was that the bathroom was pretty small, but, this is an...

We only stayed one night but we would have been happy to stay longer. The hotel is affordable, clean, very comfortable, modern etc. but it's the service that we really appreciated: from the friendly, helpful staff to the free NY Times, the complimentary continental breakfast, tea time and afternoon glass of wine. A very pleasant experience.

I stayed here 2 years ago and I loved the location--in the Pearl District. With major renovations to the guest rooms it is a much nicer property inside with the same great service. Tiffany at the front desk loaned me her personal charger. The rest of the staff was equally friendly and helpful. They also serve cookies and coffee in...

Stayed at this hotel recently for a business trip to Portland. The property is an ideal location close to downtown, food trucks, and other local things to enjoy. The property has a boutique feel to it. The lobby area is relatively small, but cozy. The rooms are relatively small. I think that the pictures at the website might be somewhat...

We appreciate all reviews and I thank you for taking the time to review The Mark Spencer Hotel. You mentioned the food trucks, which always get rave reviews and have almost taken on a life of their own! We're fortunate to be only one block away and get to sample them daily. Our location is truly one of the best...

It is the kind of place that people will either love or hate. The location is great - but might not be everyone's cup of tea. The Spencer is in the heart of a colorful part of Portland. Interesting restaurants, Powell's bookstore is 2 minutes away and the gentrified Pearl District is very close (not my favorite part of the...

Thank you for your kind words regarding our staff! They all have a love of the city and are eager to share that with our guests. I will be certain to pass along your kind remarks to Mahalia and Giovanni. You are correct - we are doing hotel renovations and I hope you will return to see the beautifully appointed...

We lived in Portland for years, but moved away in 2002. When I booked this room, I couldn't even picture what building it might be, even though I've spent many, many hours at Powell's down the street. The hotel is clean and comfortable with nice sheets and towels. We didn't really use our kitchenette, but it could be great for...

Thank you for your review - it was a nice surprise for us! Portland has so many beautiful, historic hotels and we happen to be the oldest hotel in the city. I'm so glad you found us. Our location is one of the best, being only one block from Powell's Bookstore and within walking distance to some of the city's...

We've stayed at the Mark Spencer twice now and have always had a good experience. The rooms are unique and have all the amenities including a mini kitchen and fridge. I think this building had apartments in the past, which explains the big closets and such. You are within walking distance to all of downtown and the street car runs...

Thank you for staying with us once again. We love to hear from our return guests! You mentioned the hotel renovations - it's true and we're very excited! The room designs are beautifully done and in keeping with all the charm and history of Portland. I'm happy you mentioned our neighbors,Kenny & Zukes. They do offer very tasty menu options...
