I've described the McMenamin's chain as what would have resulted if the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia had gone into the hospitality business instead of music. This is a rock club with hotel rooms above; "European-style" means that, as in the building's first days as cheap lodgings for merchant sailors in the early 20th Century, guests share the common facilities. It's...

My wife and I joined the McMenamins Passport Club and tonight visited White Eagle Saloon. We also toured the Rock & Roll Hotel. This is history personified. What a place. First of all great food and drink. Second, the ambience is amazing in the Saloon. Then the Hotel. We had a blast visiting 3 rooms and the hallway is AMAZING....

I enjoyed the atmosphere in this place. Stepped in to have a quick lunch and realized they also have rooms (lodging) upstairs. They was nothing available at the time, but I will keep this in mind for my next trip to Portland. The Barnyard Burger (we all had the special) was very very tasty. Since we all ordered the same...

We decided to stay here because it was close to MODA Center, close to transportion (TriMet), has charm versus a sterile hotel room and the price. Know that this is a hotel over a saloon just like when the building was originally built. You will get charming decor, Europe style bathrooms and lots of noise. The bar below plays awesome...

Stayed here for two nights. Staff is very nice. Our room was nice and cozy. Each room has a name. It was a bit cold but the heater in the room was adequate and the bathroom and shower were shared, both were always clean. Bands do play in the evening but they werent noisy at all. The location has parking...

the way this place is billed, i expected something almost sleazy but we were pleasantly surprised by the decent neighborhood and hotel atmosphere. there was live music and the parking lot filled up, but honestly ive found several other mcm hotels to be far noisier with both the crystal and the oly club boasting rowdy drunks and revelers in the...

We were warmly greeted, everything went smoothly. Our headboard was an artist's delight! The tons of warm light fixtures in the hallway and dining room just made us smile. Parking was a breeze. We were in the English Wing. The room was small and comfortable. No TV and we didn't need it. This was as opposite from cold and corporate...

Not really a hotel, more like a hostel. Parking is terrible-- what few spots they have aren't reserved for hotel guests. Rooms are classic mcmenamins, but these are very small with minimal ventilation (must be why there is a box fan in each room). Stayed one nite on a Sunday and around 1 am we awoke to flashlights shinning into...

Like all McMenamins the White Eagle Saloon is thriving with echoes of the past. It's a small pub with an area for live music and a few hotel rooms upstairs. The Beer at McMenamins is always good, the food here was good, and the staff were friendly. We live far from this location and happened to be in the area...

The room was dark with not many amenities, which was actually fine because we weren't even staying 24 hours. I knew there was a chance of loud music going late into the night, but I didn't expect all the other noises even after the music had stopped. There were trains going by, bit jet planes flying low overhead, and because...

“If you want to hear music, go to the back, if you want quiet, stay near the front. Or you can bring ear plugs.”
