The rooms are old and interesting. The entire place is incredibly clean. The people are friendly. The soaking pool is a wonderful refuge from the city noise. And, best of all, this hotel is a very short walk to Powell's. It was noisy the first night (street work and early dumpster service), but I settled in and it seemed to... More

Yes, and yes you are right... it is loud downtown, and the earplugs are a nice courtesy, because of it. Thank you for your review, and for taking the time to give us feedback. We work at providing the best experience for a downtown Portland, boutique hotel, and it's always good to hear when we're dong well. Again, thank you,... More

Enjoyed this hotel. It was a Portland experience. Clean ( very important). Shared bathroom was fine. Never had to wait. Staff were super. Beds were "ok". Soaking pool was clean and nice. Our Thanksgiving dinner was delicious. Chef and staff did a wonderful meal. Truly appreciate the McMenamin values and preservation of history in the Pacific NW. Thank you.

My husband and I stayed in a corner room called 'Lets Call It Love' - #316. This room is one of a few with an en suite bathroom. (Other rooms utilize shared bathrooms located in the hall.) The walls of the hotel corridors are covered with funky surreal artwork andare rather dimly lit, throwing off the cool vibe suggesting that... More

The Crystal has a great location with lots of restaurants and bars within a few blocks. They have done a great job of creating a quirky vibe. Each room is unique and individually decorated. It's history gives it some of it's quirky features. For example, it has a soaking pool in the basement. Why? The building has a storied past... More

Wonderful eclectic hotel . The staff is wonderful. We enjoyed all the art and decor. The bathroom is shared but there are four on the hall and we never waited. The hotel has a bathrobe for each guest. They do have parking arrangements at two garages that are within a few blocks. Located right across the street from Whole Foods... More

This is a truly unique hotel with themed rooms. (we were in the Nick Cave, Night of the Lotus Eater room...super cool) From what I could tell there are only a few rooms with king-size beds and private bath, otherwise you will get a queen-size bed in a smallish room with a shared bath down the hall. I didn't find... More

My husband and I stayed in Portland for one night and stayed at The Crystal. There is a conveniently close and safe parking garage right up the street that the hotel recommends. Quirky and unique is what best sums up this fab hotel. Each room is named after an artist who has played in the crystal ball rooms just a couple of blocks down. In American terms this hotel would be classed as historic and that allows for its aging colour schemes and totally fabulous rich decor. We stayed in the James... More

Love these properties. This one was a bit more money than I usually like to spend especially because of the parking fees in the Pearl. But it's a fun and funky hotel with a prime location for enjoying downtown. The only thing was that the beds are hard.
