I traditionally stay at a hotel nearer our office when traveling to Portland for work, but the rate at the Duniway Hilton was competitive and I don't mind walking - I gave it a shot. The friendly hospitality on check-in was notable. The facility and decor hit a cool balance of "current classy" and "old town charm." Some friends joined me with their own reservations on my second night at the hotel, and the treatment we had by Robert and Raymond at the front desk upon their late arrival was phenomenal. They went out of their way to make our time - short as it was - very special. I'll be back.
This is a great hotel, located in downtown Portland. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating at check-in. The hotel is well laid out, with a full bar and restaurant located in the lobby area. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The rooms have the largest TV I’ve ever seen in a hotel room. Overall, this was an outstanding hotel stay.
TLDR: The hotel is okay, the bed is great, breakfast is good, but we don’t know how this is considered part of Amex Fine Hotels group. The Common Spaces: Lobby is cool, flows well, and is nicely decorated. Comfortable to hang out. Pool and fitness center on 11th floor — both clean and nicely kept. The Room: Good quality bed and sheets. Desk was large and great to work on. Knockoff Nespresso maker that made really terrible coffee. Shower was decent. Small details in room were missing or poorly designed. For example, there was no do-not-disturb sign, towels were mismatched (in size, design, and thickness), and TV was mounted on sidewall. Not what you’d expect from an FHR property. Bar/Restaurant: small but decent breakfast menu, with nice presentation. Service was fast, PDX-friendly. Easy to use the Fine Hotels breakfast perk. Front Desk Service: Check-in was good, she made note of FHR and Amex benefits. However, that was only positive experience. We asked for change for a $20 at front desk the next day to tip housekeeper, and employee said they “don’t have change.” The next day we asked about using the Hilton’s restaurant — the employee barely made eye contact, was casually resting on desk, and gave one-word answers. Employees didn’t wear name tags or anything to delineate that they worked for hotel. Parking: $33 a day at hotel, but way cheaper options ($14-20) available on same block. Street parking free overnight. Overall: It was fine, and breakfast and the bed were highlights. I am confused as to how this is an Amex Fine Hotel and Resort — it’s the worst of any FHR property we’ve been to. Not that it’s bad, it just lacks the polish and attention to detail that FHRs are known for. Would we stay there again? I guess? The hotel is fine, and a reasonable option if you’re in PDX and get a good deal for it. Note that you will NOT get Hilton status benefits (hotel credit per day) and the FHR credits — only the FHR.…
The location and the accommodations were great, as always. As usual, it is the team working that made our visit so enjoyable. The entire front dest team was incredibly welcoming, upon our arrival. Even though they were swamped, they were so kind and patient with each customer, even the ones on the phone. They took the time each person needed and didn’t make anyone feel rushed or unimportant. Over the two days we were at the property, we saw Brianna (at the front desk) being SO incredibly sweet to the families with small children!! She was very kind and helpful to me, as well. I wish I would have got the name of one of the cleaning team we met her in the hall of floor 20 on Wednesday, December 28 around 11:45am, she had an accent, I couldn’t place (maybe Eastern European ??) she was so kind and friendly as we were looking for our room. I always wish I would make more of an effort to get the names of the ones that do such a great job in helping all of us anxious, stressed-out travelers. Thank you!!…
Fantastic luxurious peaceful restful stay at this lovely downtown hotel. Was a little apprehensive when we approach the front desk as the staff look like they just come back from a hike. They were very nice and we were quickly checked in. Our room is a lovely corner room with an incredibly Large picture window with a view of the street. It was very pretty with the snow and the red and green stoplights. So Christmasy and so appropriate for December 23. The bed and bedding was luxurious and comfortable. We went to the pool although a little chilly was Very peaceful as we were the only people there. We had only one robe but after calling the front desk a second robe was delivered within minutes! Our only complaint was the included breakfast where the choices were slim and the quality was lacking. I would’ve rather paid for eggs Benedict or a nice omelette. The service at breakfast was good. My drinks from the bar– a Manhattan and a double Bailey’s on the rock were ample and served with a smile. We will definitely book here again for our getaway.…
Your reviews help your fello I am extremely disappointed for unprofessionally service from the duniway hilton portland for many reasons 1.I have booked the room via as mobility hearing king room with "tub" , but what I have got is a room with shower ,so I ask the operator and he said we only have the room with shower,Then why they say that in the online booking website? Is it a lie? 2.The room has no electric kettle so I ask the operator again and then he say he will ask the house keeper to bring it to me and nothing happen,so I call again the day after, and the other operater said "our hotel has no electric kettle" and I ask that how it can be? even the small and cheap hotel can prepare this,Then the house keeper bring it finally. 3.For the second night I stay (I stayed with you for 7 nights),I haven't got two bottle of water so I have to ask for this again, and the operator told that we only give you for the first night after that if you need it, you have to ask at the reception for free but if you want the house keeper bring it to yr room,It will charge 4 usd per bottle,So as I told before any other ho tel in the world even the cheapest one, they will give you a couple of water per night.but I wonder Hilton has no standard about this. But Ok I ask he reception for two bottle and I found that after I check out, it charged me 12 usd for 3 bottles,How could it be? Is it about cheating & lying? 4.After I check out, this hotel charged me about 200 usd for destination charge that never mention in the website that I make a booking ,So I ask for the money back and I feel much frustrated !! 5.And after that when I checked my debit card,I found that this hotel charged me 385 usd again (The reception ask me when I check in ) so I have checked my Amex card and found that,It already charged full price when I book in advance ,So how can thier double charge me.Is it a mistake operation or cheating.I wonder again 6.The last but not least,I found my credit card Charged 4 usd after I checked out and I doubt that what the cost again, and I realized that my friend who pick me up at the lobby ask for a bottle of water and the reception give it to her with a smile but never mention that it for sell or charged 4 usd,Is this your service? It's very insincere and disappoint me a lot. So I will never ever stay with this hotel and the other Hilton anymore because I have a bad experienxce and lost trust with them already and I will tell anyone that they shoudn't because of your unprofessional service and somehow make me think that you are cheating on yr customer and it ruin my holiday a lot…
Was an excellent experience. At first the room wasn't what we thought. Front Desk was amazing at accommodating a different room. THANK YOU Alex did an exceptional job, very professional! I will be staying here again and telling others about my great experience!
The Duniway offers up a classy, comfortable & chic hotel experience in the center of downtown Portland. The beds are ridiculously comfy. Each room has a 65" TV. The bar/lobby area is beautifully decorated which offers Portland Coffee Roasters coffee in the morning and fantastic drink options in the evening along with breafast and dinner options. There is also a workout area and pool on the 11th floor along with outside patio. Highly recommend!
The Duniway or Hilton Properties failed at transparency and communication. There was a presidential visit on the days we were staying at the hotel. Officials were clearly staying in the same hotel we were, but there was no notice or communication regarding this. The front desk said nothing and every time we would pass by them, they acted like they were too busy looking down at their devices and not seeing us. None of our plans in Portland transpired because we could not come in and out of the property freely. The streets were closed with Secret Service agents surrounding areas. The Uber Eats driver could not reach us, so my husband had to pick up our food 2 blocks away. During his walk, he was asked to take longer routes. He was escorted by Secret Service agents from one intersection to another, then got patted down and scrutinized before he was able to re-enter the Duniway. We would have made different plans if Hilton properties had let us know that we will be held inside their property for the rest of our trip. I called the front desk, crying out for help that maybe they had an idea of what we can do because it felt like our whole stay, we "normal guests" were an inconvenience to the property. Maybe they want to transfer us to a different hotel in a different area that is not affected by this chaos? I got an "I don't know if that will help, I don't know what will help you." answer from the front desk, NOT at the Duniway but at another Hilton property across the street. To add with disrespect, I felt "regular" guest calls were being diverted to another property. I was let know that the employees were not aware of what is happening or what will happen and they do not know what to expect. Even if this was true, it sounded a bit inventive and helpless. If I was one of the VVIP guests, would I have gotten a resolution? The media could not have known there will be a presidential visit before the Hilton properties where VVIP guests will be staying. If Hilton are bound to confidentiality, at least SEND OUT A MEMO the moment they are allowed to disclose information, try the same time as the media new outlet. With fear that we will not reach the airport in time for our evening flight on the last day in Portland, we opted to cancel our day and a half plans and just go straight to the airport. We could not wait to go home and never come back to Portland or any Hilton properties for this matter.…
Prepaid for a king room. Informed none were available upon arrival as they had given them all away. The room was advertised as available when I booked and PAID. Your reservation is meaningless at this hotel.
