We love the serenity of Dufur and the historic Balch hotel, which we continue to return to again and again for its relaxing atmosphere and its proximity to good hiking near Mt. Hood and in the Columbia Gorge.

My husband and I have been to the Balch Hotel many times. Some times to just relax and enjoy the quiet, friendly atmosphere and good food. Other times to use as a jumping off place to hike, bike, explore, or go wine tasting. The staff are superb and ready to help make your vacation a memorable experience that you will want to repeat. I highly recommend!

What a great place to stay! Nice little gem tucked away in the small town of Dufer near the hills surrounding Mt Hood. The place has been very carefully restored to its 1907 grandeur with many details as original. The service was very accommodating with an excellent dinner. Breakfast was also very nicely done and included. Definitely can’t wait to stay there again.

The menu options and wine options and service were superb! Our dinners were perfect! The salmon bisque soup with coconut milk was excellent as was the tri tip and chicken rice bowl with coconut rice. The service was perfect thanks to Deborah who always makes me fee like I'm home there. I can't recommend this place enough.

I so enjoyed my time at Balch Hotel. I needed a quiet place to stay and study for 3 days and appreciated that there were no TVs or phones in the rooms. The staff is wonderful. Debra took great care of me and always remembered my name and Tari was attentive at breakfast without being too attentive. There are great places to hike around the area and went on a hike every day. I already booked my return stay!
