We stayed at the Channel House for an evening two weeks ago in the Whale Watchers Suite. Rate including tax was approximately $370 so I had high expectations. Location is spectacular as the Inn sits right on the water and we saw a whale as well as numerous seals on the rocks. However the room was disappointing. Fireplace and outdoor spa tub were nice but the bathroom seemed like an after thought-very small with an even smaller shower. Room was dated and needed some TLC. Breakfast was included but very basic and mediocre. My advice would be to stay in a less expensive hotel in Depoe Bay and see the whales from the walkway around the town.
We stopped for one night on our way down the North West coast. You’re pretty much hanging over the ocean you can’t get better views then you can here, next to the inlet to the harbor there’s plenty to watch while sitting on the deck. We didn’t see any Whales on our short stay but this would be the place see them.
The rooms or maybe a better description is the apartments are simply beautiful (we stayed in the cuckoo nest). It’s obvious that owners care a great deal about the place and it shows the minute you arrive. The location is perfect for walking into town for an ice cream cone or some good popcorn, not to mention a good meal and some entertainment at the Sea Hag saloon.
Hope to get the chance to return for a longer stay.
This was my first trip to the Oregon coast and wanted to have an extraordinary experience, so therefore booked what was thought to be the best hotels.
We had spent the previous two nights at the amazing TuTuTun Lodge in Gold Beach, which would be very difficult to top, but this was embarrassingly bad by comparison and much more expensive.
One small woman worked at the hotel desk and offered to take our bags up our the third floor room, but even though we’re both in our seventies, that was wierd. Obviously, no elevator.
The rooms best amenity was its proximity to the bay and whale watching. The whales did a great job of appearing regularly, but they were also there for all of the less costly hotels, Channel House did nothing to be uniquely praised for here.
The room was almost adequate, small, but dated. Then we went out to see the much touted hot tub on the deck. This was old, paint was peeling, rust was on every surface, and the flooring was warped. Hot tub was dull with wear and only turned on and off, two buttons didn’t work. We evaluated, should we stay? But, it was late in the day, we stayed on.
The bathroom was the worst. A plastic one piece shower that smelled moldy and was so small. It was gross and unpleasant.
The next morning we went on a whale watching trip and sightseeing and did not return until nearly 7 pm. Our room was never cleaned. The front desk worker leaves at 7 and does not return until 9 am. She said she’d try to find someone to replace glasses and towels and clean the room. She found a guy who straightened the room, and actually asked if we wanted our bed made. Yes. What a depressing end to our day.
This place is a mess. Aged and understaffed. There is really almost no customer service. When we asked to speak to the manager, we were told by the little woman, she would talk to the owner about our bad experience. No response at all.
LEARN FROM OUR EXPERIENCE. DO NOT STAY HERE. It is a rip off.
Great location! We recently stayed at the Channel House for one night (and wish we could have stayed longer). We had suite room #11 and it was just magnificent. Our deck had a perfect view of the channel and the ocean and the whales!!! Oh the whales. Opening the sliding door in the morning to see whales and spout holes a plenty was a true gem of an experience. We travelled to OR from Philadelphia and I would make a point to tell anyone to stay at this unique and lovely property. The staff were also really helpful, kind and accomodating and the breakfast was really bountiful. There was a hot-tub on our patio but we did not get to use it (got really chilly out and there was a baseball game to watch) but sure that others would enjoy this and the sunset views.
Spectacular ocean view With a large deck and a large Jacuzzi tub on the deck we had such a wonderful time Watching the whales and seals right from the deck and the boats going out from the jetty. The sun rise looked like a sunset! wonderful weather. They provide a great breakfast with all kinds of fresh fruit, yogurts, breads, some homemade pastries a variety of juices coffees teas. it’s close in location so you can just walk to anything you need or want to do in depot bay but yet still quiet. I can’t wait to go back I wish I could’ve just moved in I give it a five star thumbs up. It was truly a wonderful choice for our Depo Bay getaway🤗
